Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
1
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

What owners report

Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded

  • Fuel system428.6%
  • Suspension428.6%
  • Engine214.3%
  • Transmission214.3%
  • Body & structure17.1%
  • Brakes17.1%

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

Safety recalls

No recalls in our database for this model year

That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

Safety investigations

NHTSA inquiries naming this vehicle. An investigation is not a finding of a defect.

PE09030ClosedPreliminary Evaluation

REAR SUSPENSION LOWER LINK FAILURE

Opened Jun 16, 2009
Closed Dec 8, 2009

DURING PRELIMINARY EVALUATION PE09-030, ISUZU MOTORS AMERICA, INC (ISUZU) NOTED TWO PRIMARY DIFFERENCES ONCE THE REAR SUSPENSION LOWER LINK SEPARATION OCCURS BETWEEN THE ALLEGED DEFECT (SEPARATION OF THE LOWER LINK FROM THE FRAME) OF THIS INVESTIGATION AND A SAFETY DEFECT INVOLVING LOWER LINK SEPARATION FROM THE REAR AXLE ADDRESSED BY ISUZU IN SAFETY RECALL 00V-058.IN THE CASE OF THE DEFECT CONDITION IDENTIFIED IN RECALL 00V-058, ISUZU STATED THAT THE ATTACHMENT BOLT COULD DETACH FULLY, CAUSING SEPARATION OF THE LOWER LINK FROM THE REAR AXLE POSSIBLY CREATING A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. ISUZU ALSO STATED THAT THIS CONDITION OCCURS EARLY IN THE SERVICE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE.IN THIS INVESTIGATION ISUZU NOTED LOWER LINK SEPARATION FROM THE FRAME IS A PROGRESSIVE CORROSION ISSUE WITH PRIOR WARNING TO CONSUMERS.ISUZU ALSO STATED THAT IN THE EVENT OF A LOWER LINK SEPARATION FROM THE FRAME, THE VEHICLE IS STILL CONTROLLABLE AND CAN BE SAFELY STOPPED. THE OFFICE OF DEFECT INVESTIGATION (ODI) ANALYZED COMPLAINT DATA PROVIDED BY ISUZU AND AMERICA HONDA MOTOR COMPANY, INC (HONDA), AS WELL AS VEHICLE OWNER QUESTIONNAIRES SUBMITTED TO ODI FROM CONSUMERS.IN TOTAL, THERE WERE 60 UNIQUE REPORTS OF LOWER LINK SEPARATIONS FROM THE FRAME INCLUDING 1 ALLEGED CRASH AND 7 LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL INCIDENTS THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE ALLEGED DEFECT.MOST OF THESE COMPLAINTS INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO WARNING PRIOR TO THE LINK SEPARATION.THIS PRELIMINARY EVALUATION HAS BEEN UPGRADED TO AN ENGINEERING ANALYSIS (EA09-018) TO FURTHER ASSESS THE SCOPE, FREQUENCY AND RISK TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY OF THE ALLEGED DEFECT IN THE SUBJECT VEHICLES.

MY MOTHER AND STEPFATHER GAVE ME THEIR 2000 ISUZU RODEO THIS SUMMER. ABOUT 6 OR 7 MONTHS PRIOR TO THEM GIVING ME THE VEHICLE ITS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ONCE THE VEHICLE WOULD GET TO A TANK OF GAS THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD START TO WAVE BACK AND FORTH FROM FULL TO EMPTY WITH THE GAS LIGHT FLASHING. THE VEHICLE ALSO BEGINS TO SPUTTER AND LOSE POWER SPORADICALLY. I'VE RESEARCHED THIS AND FOUND IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM/TRAIT ON A 2000-2001 ISUZU RODEO. IT APPEARS TO BE A FAULTY FUEL SENDING UNIT WHICH IS MOUNTED INSIDE THE GAS TANK WITH THE FUEL PUMP. I THINK LOSS OF A CARS POWER CAN BE A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK AS THE CAR CAN BEGIN TO STALL WHILE PULLING OUT INTO HEAVY TRAFFIC. THE FUEL GAUGE IS ALSO A SAFETY RISK WHEN IT STARTS TO FLUCTUATE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW HOW MUCH GAS REMAINS. THIS COULD RESULT IN RUNNING OUT OF GAS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY OR ANY OTHER HEAVILY TRAVELED ROAD. I FIND IT SHOCKING THAT THIS IS SUCH A COMMON PROBLEM WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN RECALLED AND POSES A HUGE SAFETY RISK FOR THE OWNERS AS WELL AS OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. NOT TO MENTION I WAS TOLD THE PART IS SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS WITH ANOTHER FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS IN LABOR TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. *TR

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON AND TRUCK CUTS OFF FREQUENTLY. I HAVE HAD THE PLUGS AND WIRES CHANGED, NUMEROUS OIL CHANGES, GAS TREATMENTS. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC SEVERAL TIMES. I EVEN WENT ON LINE TO CHECK INFORMATION AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FUEL TANK HAS GONE BAD AND THAT ONE COMING FROM THE MANUFACTURE WOULD COST $1500.00! I JUST BOUGHT THIS TRUCK IN MAY 2004. I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK FOR ALMOST 2 WEEKS, AND I STILL OVER 2 1/2 YEARS ON IT. WHY AREN'T THERE RECALLS ON THIS FUEL TANK/GAS/EMISSIONS SYSTEM ???I DON'T HAVE $1500.00 DOLLARS , PLUS CONTINUE TO MAKE PAYMENTS ON IT TOO. *JB

I WAS DRIVING ALONG ONE DAY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN MY 2000 ISUZU RODEO. I STARTED TO GET BAD GAS MILEGE. I TOOK IT TO THE ISUZU DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE GAS FILTER BECAUSE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. ABOUT TWO DAYS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THEY THEN TOLD ME IT WAS MY FUEL PUMP OR SENSOR ACUTALLY AND THAT ISUZU WOULD NOT REPLACE IT WAS NOT A WARRANTY PART AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO DROP THE $300 AND SOME TO PAY FOR IT. EVERYTHING ELSE WAS UNDER WARRANTLY EXCEPT THAT.

THE FUEL GAUGE WILL DROP DOWN TO EMPTY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS CONSTANTLY ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND PAID AND ESTIMATE FEE OF $80 ONLY TO HAVE THEM TELL ME TO BUY A NEW GAS CAP WHICH I DID AND THE SAME PROBLEM. I CAN SEE FROM THIS PAGE THAT OTHER'S EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM AND FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD BE REPAIR BY ISUZU AT NO COST TO ME. I HAD TO TAKE IT TO A SHOP WHICH REPLACED THE GAS TANK SENSOR FOR $400.00 WHICH I THINK ISUZU SHOULD REIMBURSE.*AK

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
