2007 Jeep Compass Problems

The frame Infront where the motor and steering attach rotted completely threw, separated at the weld. It is a safety hazard where steering is affected. The dash lights for the traction, abs, and even the cruise control are on and those items are no longer functional. This car was purchased in 2017, Holiday automotive in Fondulac, Wi with this condition apparent. The mechanic who changed my oil reported it to me in the spring of 2018. And as of this spring the car is undrivable as it is broken. If this were to break while someone were driving it, an accident would happen.

Every time I fill up my gas tank the car will stall and shut down in the middle of the road. This is extremely dangerous as I need to put my car in park to restart it.

Upon driving on the highway the engine begins to make a hissing sound . Then the the car begins to feel like its slowly braking. From there It slowly loses power . The accelerator does nothing. This happened when my son I his [XXX] was drive me to airport through [XXX] mountains. Had to pull over many times eventually getting and Uber from gas station to make flight. The vehicle has a problem that it will stall out after filling up with gas. The timing of the stall out is such that within a minute or two of leaving the gas station and pulling into traffic, the vehicle will buck and the motor will shut off. when this happens, the vehicle also loses power steering and brakes. This creates an INCREDIBLY dangerous situation as the driver essentially has no control any longer. It is a consistent, repeatable problem that occurs every time the vehicle is filled with gas.

dashboard had check engine light on. transaxle indicator light turned on when i was driving about 65 mph on the freeway and slowed down and wouldn’t accelerate. The large commercial truck behind me was unable to stop on time that it almost hit us behind. There was a construction on my right lane and cars on my left lane. it took me some seconds to reach the end of construction site in my right lane. A second or two more not changing lane to my right side would have hit me and my children. All the truck driver was able to do was pressed on the horn to make me aware that he is too close behind me. Changed of speed in a freeway that fast could have killed me and my kids. i have not been able to drive in the Freeway with this car and even if i get it fixed, I still won’t feel safe to drive it. The car runs fine when the transaxle light doesn’t come on. certain movement, light turns on and off.

IT WAS LIKE A GHOST TOOK OVER IT SCARED ME TO DEATH. MY LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING, BLINKER CAME ON WOULDN'T GO OFF, WIPERS WERE GOING FULL SPEED AND THE DASH WHERE IT TELLS YOU SOUTH, NORTH, EAST AND WEST STOP WORKING. IT'S SOMETHING DEFINITELY WRONG WITH THIS CAR AND READING THE FORUMS WITH THE SAME ISSUES SHOULD BE A RECALL.

I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM WITH MY CAR CUTTING OFF, ESPECIALLY WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT MORE OFTEN THAN NOT ON LOCAL ROADWAYS. IF IT DOESN'T COMPLETELY SHUT OFF THE SENSATION TO CUT OFF IS DEFINITELY FELT. I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT IT WAS THE SPARK PLUGS AND HAD THOSE REPLACED, HOWEVER, THE SITUATION CONTINUES TO PERSIST. I HAVE BEEN TOLD ON ONE OR MORE OCCASIONS IT MAY BE THE FUEL PUMP. I WAS RECOMMENDED I TAKE MY VEHICLE DIRECTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE OTHER ISSUE THAT IS ALSO VERY PRONOUNCED IS THE NOISE MY ENGINE MAKES WHILE IDLING. IT CAN BEST DESCRIBED AS A LOUD WHIRLING SOUND BUT NOT QUITE A RATTLE. I HAVE NEVER HEARD MY CAR SOUND SO NOISY. I HAVE NOTICED PERHAPS IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS COME ON INVOLUNTARILY WITHOUT ME ENGAGING THEIR USE. I HAVE SEARCHED JEEP'S WEBSITE REGARDING ANY RECALL INFORMATION ON THESE AFOREMENTIONED ISSUES BUT TO NO AVAIL.

REAR CROSS BAR AXLE IS DEFECTIVE. THE WHEEL SUSPENSION IS DETERIATED TO THE POINT THAT THE WHEELS PROTRUDE OUWARD FROM THE VEHICLE CAUSING EXTREME WEAR ON THE INSIDE PART OF THE REAR TIRES TO THE POINT OF WIRES ON RADIAL TIRES ARE EXPOSED. THE OUTSIDE PART OF THE TIRES SHOW MINIMUM WEAR. MECHANICS SAY THIS CROSS BAR AXLE IS POOR QUALITY STEEL OR STEEL THAT WASN'T CURED AND FINISHED PROPERLY. THE CROSS BAR AXLE IS LITERALLY ERODING WITH HOLES OCCURRING RIGHT THROUGH THE AXLE ITSELF. FEAR IS THE CAR IS BECOMING TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE WITHOUT FEAR THAT UPON HITTING A BUMP THE REAR WHEELS WILL SPREAD APART AND THE CAR FALL TO THE GROUND.

I HAVE REPLACED THE FRONT AND BACK SUSPENSION. I BOUGHT THIS USED, AND I THINK I WAS NOT GIVEN THE PROPER INFORMATION REGARDING THE CAR.

MY CAR WAS INVOLVED IN A AUTO ACCIDENT WHEN I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN AND WAS HIT BY ANOTHER CAR SIDE IMPACT, AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT ANCHOR CAME COMPLETELY DETACHED AND SEAT BELT NO LONGER RESTRAINED THE PASSENGER, CONSEQUENTLY SUSTAINING MULTIPLE INJURIES.

OUR JEEP 2007 COMPASS HAS HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE DRIVERS SEAT BELT REMAINING LATCHED. MOST TIMES IT WILL UNLATCH ITSELF WITHIN SECONDS OF THE CLICK SOUND. AND OTHER TIMES, IT DOES UNLATCH WHILE WE ARE DRIVING. WE DID TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE SAME YEAR WE BOUGHT IT, AND THEY TOLD US THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SEATBELT. WE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN THE FOLLOWING YEAR, AND AGAIN, THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME, BUT, IS STILL A SAFETY CONCERN FOR US BECAUSE, IF WE WERE TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT, THAT SEATBELT MAY UNLATCH UPON IMPACT. *TR

I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE A LITTLE OVER A YEAR NOW, BOTH FRONT TURN SIGNAL LIGHT COVERS HAVE FALLEN OFF EXPOSING THE TURN SIGNAL LIGHT FIXTURES. BOTH FELL OFF WITH IN A MONTH APART.

INITIALLY, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT ON THE RIGHT STOP WORKING. USED HIGH BEAM FOR AWHILE. TRIED HAVING BULB REPLACED. WORKED FOR A SHORT TIME. NO POWER GETTING TO HEAD LAMP.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR BODY DAMAGES. IN ADDITION, WHILE APPROACHING A STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL. AT 43,060, THE REAR BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NOW, WITH 48,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THE FRONT AND REAR BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR A THIRD TIME. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE TIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WITH ONLY 34,406 MILES ON THE VEHICLE.

2007 JEEP COMPASS. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE AND TRANSMISSION OVERHEAT *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED TWO OF THE THREE JEEPS SHE OWNS WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. DURING HIGH SPEED DRIVING, ON HOT DAYS THE AUTOMATIC TRANSXALE OIL BECAME EXTREMELY HOT, AND THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEAT LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD SLOW DOWN SLIGHTLY UNTIL THE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE COOLED DOWN ENOUGH TO ALLOW A RETURN TO THE REQUESTED SPEED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL BURNING ODOR AND HEAT COMING FROM THE SEAT WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT HEATER WAS ACTIVATED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 113,000.
