2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Suspension Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the suspension system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Suspension reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

My Wireless Ignition Node is showing a failure. Key Fob not recognized and displays unknown key warning. Leading to the failure, the key would get stuck in the start position and I had to manually return the key to the on position. The front calipers had also recently been replaced when my mechanic noticed it was defective. All of these incidents occured before I was aware there were any recalls on the vehicle, but now that I am aware; all of the incidents leading up to the WIN failure make more sense. I brought my concerns to the dealer and they were of no help in resolving my issue. My mechanic, in his best opinion, also believes these issues should be considered under the recall for the Ignition system relating to the recall.

KEY WILL NOT CLICK AND TURN OFF COMPLETELY AFTER SHUTTING VEHICLE OFF. WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE, IT DRIVES A LITTLE ROUGH AS FAR AS GOING OVER A ROUGH PATCH IN THE ROAD AND IT HITS REALLY HARD. AS IF THE SHOCKS AND OR STRUTS ARE GONE.

THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCES AN ISSUE IN ONE OF THE AREAS NOTED, USUALLY WHEN ACCELERATING THROUGH A GRADUAL TURN TO THE LEFT SUCH AS ON AN "ON" RAMP. THE DRIVE TRAIN HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY BOTH INDEPENDENT MECHANICS AS WELL AS JEEP'S AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER IN YONKER'S, NY WITH REPORTS OF NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE. THE JEEP SERVICE CENTER HAS STATED THAT WHILE THEY TOO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE MALFUNCTION, THEY ARE INCAPABLE OF DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM, SUGGESTING IT BE DRIVEN BY THE OWNER "UNTIL IT WORSENS".

Crash reported1 injury reported

I WAS TRAVELING ON MONTROSE PARKWAY IN ROCKVILLE, MD. I WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 45MPH. I APPROACHED A SLIGHT BEND TO THE LEFT THAT HAD A SLIGHT DECLINE. I LOST CONTROL ON DEBRIS THAT WAS LEFT OVER FROM AN ACCIDENT EARLIER THAT MORNING. I STRUCK AND WENT OVER THE CURB WITH THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY VEHICLE. I WENT HEAD ON INTO A STEEL LIGHT POST INCASED IN A CONCERT FOOTER. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED VERY EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY DURING THE COLLISION. THIS IS A VERY MAJOR CONCERN TO ME BECAUSE THIS COULD HAVE TURNED OUT WAY WORSE, BUT I WAS VERY, VERY LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO ONLY SUSTAIN BRUISING. THIS VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS.

TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM - VALVE STEMS CORRODED BADLY - APPEAR TO BE MADE OF POOR QUALITY ALUMINUM - EVENTUALLY BROKE OFF WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ADD AIR PRESSURE. COULD HAVE EASILY BROKEN OFF WHEN DRIVING JUST DUE TO VIBRATION AND CAUSED A SUDDEN LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF VEHICLE. HAVE REPLACE THREE UNITS SO FAR AT A COST OF OVER $300. HAVE KEPT OLD PARTS AND INVOICES AND PICTURES OF BADLY CORRODED UNITS. PLEASE RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. JEEP HAS REPLACED UNITS WITH BRASS UNITS NOW!!! THEY SHOULD PAY FOR THEIR MISTAKES. PARTS MADE BY SCHRADER ELECTRONICS. *TR
