What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2007 Jeep Wrangler, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
Vehicle Information: Make: Jeep Model: Wrangler Model Year: 2007 VIN: [XXX] Safety Recall Information: NHTSA Campaign ID: 16V-290 Manufacturer Recall Number: S33 Component: Airbag / Clock Spring This recall was previously performed by a dealership in February 2021; however, the vehicle is now experiencing the same symptoms the recall was intended to address, indicating the safety defect has reoccurred or was not permanently remedied. The vehicle is currently experiencing: Illuminated airbag (SRS) warning light Horn failure Traction control / electronic stability program warning light Erratic or abnormal A/C behavior that coincides with the SRS/steering wheel electrical faults These failures are consistent with a defective clock spring and directly impact the Supplemental Restraint System and other active safety systems. I contacted an authorized Jeep dealership to request inspection and repair of this recurring safety defect. The dealership confirmed the recall had been previously completed but refused to diagnose or repair the vehicle, stating in writing: “Due to company policy, we are unable to perform diagnostic or repair services on vehicles that are more than 10 years old.” They further stated that because the recall was marked as completed in 2021, they would not assist further and recommended I seek an independent repair facility. I believe this refusal violates the intent and requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act (49 U.S.C. §§ 30118–30120), which requires manufacturers to remedy safety defects and does not allow age-based or policy-based refusal when a safety defect exists or reoccurs. This defect involves the airbag system and active safety features and presents an ongoing risk to vehicle occupants. I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in reviewing this matter and ensuring that the manufacturer and/or authorized dealer fulfills their obligation to properly remedy this safety defect. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 5
when i drive the vehicle, i goes into this shaky mode where i have to completely stop the car and restart it. this happens if i hit any kind of bump. I brake every bump that i see hoping it will stop but today is got so bad i could not move. Also the braking for driving down a curvy mountain. I almost got in multiple accidents this week
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
In 2022, I paid over $15,000 to an official Jeep dealership (Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM City, Greenwich CT) to replace the engine in my Jeep Wrangler. Without clear disclosure or consent, they installed a non-OEM Jasper remanufactured engine. The invoice misleadingly stated “ALL PARTS ARE NEW UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED,” with no mention of Jasper or warranty terms. The vehicle began malfunctioning almost immediately, raising multiple serious safety concerns, confirmed by written service exchanges: •“The Jeep is stopping alone! Just crazy, brakes come on alone” — 🛑 Spontaneous brake engagement poses a serious crash risk. •“It also smells strong gas when turning the car on” — 🚨 Potential fuel leak or misfire, which is a fire hazard. •“The Jeep is malfunctioning,” “check engine light came back on,” “needs a PCM”, followed by: “I’m not sure this is a computer problem, but the motor you folks placed in the car.” — ⚠️ Suggests deeper integration issues between the engine and vehicle electronics. After only ~8,000 miles, the engine failed again. I spent thousands more with an independent mechanic, who found that several parts supposedly replaced in 2022 were already failing again (spark plugs, oil cooler, manifold gaskets, thermostat). This points to reused components, poor-quality parts, or improper installation. Stellantis refuses to assist, claiming their dealership is “independent,” despite operating under Stellantis branding and authorization. A Stellantis rep confirmed they would only file an internal complaint and left me to handle everything alone. This reflects mechanical negligence, brand-level accountability failures, and clear safety threats. I’m requesting NHTSA investigate: •Post-engine replacement safety hazards and quality of work and materials •Dangerous servicing practices at this authorized dealership (if not many or all of them) •Stellantis’ lack of oversight over branded repairs
Service Bulletin # 14-001-11, dated February 11, 2011 built between March 1, 2007 March 31, 2008 recall on inlet check valve recall. My vehicle was built 08/2006 and does not fall within the dated window however it is experiencing the issue. Gas overflow is not only a cost of money but also a danger to the environment. I am asking for an extension on this recall to include my manufactured year.
Suspension
Reports naming suspension components — springs, struts, shocks, control arms and related hardware.
From owner reports, verbatim

I have 5 recalls but have been told by the dealer that because my vehicle is a re-constructed title that recalls cannot be done. Is this true?
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.

TIPM failure. Recall 07V291000 My vehicle (2007 Jeep Wrangler) is not included in the recall, although it was recalled for this model. Car suddenly had a variety of bizarre electrical malfunctions including wipers acting on their own, difficulty starting, and stalling while driving. Mechanic inspection ($150) Also contirmed that it is the TIPM. The vehicle is too dangerous to drive before the TIPM is replaced.
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.

Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the brake pedal was depressed, however the brake pedal failed to function as intended. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed to the floor, and the service brakes failed to engage. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed a hole in the brake line. In addition, the brake fluid was squirting out of the brake fluid canister. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
ABS MODULE fault Abs Traction control inoperable, no parts available, no fixes available.
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would independently enter limp mode with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer where they replaced the valve body. Recently, the contact stated upon placing the gear shifter into the Reverse, the vehicle would fail to move backward. The check engine light then illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where he was given an estimate for a new transmission. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 156,000.
I bought my 2007 Jeep Wrangler in November 2020. It had approximately 122,000 miles on it and has the 6 speed manual transmission. After driving it for 7 days, I was backing out of a parking spot and heard a loud squeal and was unable to shift gears. It had to have the clutch replaced along with the flywheel and several other clutch associated parts. The total was $1,600. The salesman at the dealership where I bought it told me as I was buying it that there is no warranty but if something happens in the first couple of weeks that he would work with us. Of course he did NOT help me. He wouldn't even return my phone calls. Whatever, buyer beware! Second issue is of course the fuel spit back problem. Every time I fill up, I end up with gas on the Jeep and on the ground. I love wasting money like that. There is apparently a recall on this issue but your website says my vehicle has no recalls. Third issue is all the door hinges are rusting really bad. I saw that there were several service bulletins on the proper procedures for replacing those hinges. Those should be replaced by the dealer at no cost.
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim

PURCHASED GOODYEAR WRANGLER SR-A 255/55/17 A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO. ABOUT 3 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE MY FRONT LEFT TIRES WAS FLAT AND UNREPAIRABLE. AT THAT TIME DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT. BUT AS TIME WENT BY I NOTICED THAT ONCE I HIT SPEEDS OF ABT 50 MPH MY FRONT END STARTED TO SHAKE SEVERELY. I ASSUMED THAT I NEEDED A FRONT END ALIGNMENT OR BALANCING. HOWEVER COMING HOME SEVERAL DAYS AGO MY FRONT AND BACK RIGHT TIRES BLEW. LUCKILY I WAS DRIVING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED AND WAS ABLE TO CONTROL MY VEHICLE AND NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE PASSING OR BEHIND ME. IT COULD HAVE BEEN A DIFFERENT OUTCOME IF SO. I DECIDED TO DO WEB RESEARCH TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY SIMILAR ISSUES AND HAVE FOUND MANY WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I REALLY DO THINK GOODYEAR NEEDS TO REALLY LOOK INTO THIS. I REPLACE THE TIRES WITH ANOTHER BRAND AND NOT ONCE HAS MY FRONT END SHAKEN LIKE PREVIOUSLY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS OVER 40 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED THE FOLLOWING DAY WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE CLEAR. HE FURTHER STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 2 MPH, THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE RIGHT. THE DEALER ADJUSTED THE TIRE PRESSURE. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A FIVE SECOND DELAY WHEN HE STARTED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER AND RADIO WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE ANY OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 900 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,702.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE COASTED AND RESTARTED ON ITS OWN. THE VEHICLE FAILED AGAIN WHILE PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. ON JULY 10, 2007, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 07V291000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE HAS NOT STALLED SINCE THE REPAIR, BUT CONTINUES TO HESITATE AS IF IT WILL STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TWICE BECAUSE THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM FAILED. ON AUGUST 27, 2007, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ABS AND ANTI-SKID LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER FOR THE A/C SYSTEM. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,384.
