2022 Jeep Wrangler Electrical Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the electrical system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Electrical reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

2022 Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid. The hybrid high-voltage system failed the first time it was used, in April 2026 at about 35,000 miles. I had not charged or used hybrid mode before that because of the manufacturer's high-voltage battery fire-risk recall guidance (recalls 23V-787, 24V-720, 25V-741) not to charge and to park away from structures. The check engine light came on at first use and has not stayed off except when cleared by the dealer. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Jeep dealer for the same hybrid high-voltage system concern on 4/19/2026, 6/17/2026 and 7/5/2026 without a fix. On 8/4/2026 the vehicle would not start at all and had to be towed. It stayed at the dealer 29 days (8/6 to 9/4/2026). The dealer replaced the main battery and found DTC P0E15-00 (electric coolant heater performance) with the high-voltage coolant heater in a 'locked permanent' unrecoverable state, and replaced the HV heater. The three earlier visits never identified this high-voltage thermal-management failure. Safety risk: a sudden no-start / loss of propulsion, and a failed cooling component in the high-voltage system of a vehicle population already under repeated battery thermal-runaway / fire recalls, where the manufacturer has acknowledged fires in vehicles that had received earlier remedies. The failures were confirmed and documented by the dealer on repair orders. The manufacturer (Stellantis) has been notified in writing and has declined to repurchase the vehicle. Repair orders are available on request.

My 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe has an intermittent loss of acceleration when operating in Electric Mode. As the battery charge decreases, electric propulsion power can become significantly reduced. Pressing the accelerator sometimes produces inadequate acceleration until the gasoline engine engages. This creates a safety concern when entering traffic, crossing intersections, merging, or climbing hills because the vehicle may provide substantially less acceleration than expected. There is no warning message or warning light before or during the loss of acceleration. On a separate occasion, the vehicle displayed “Electric Mode Unavailable” with approximately 50% battery charge and switched to Hybrid Mode. Electric Mode became available again several minutes later. The vehicle has been inspected by two authorized Jeep dealers. No diagnostic codes were found, and the most recent dealer stated the vehicle was operating normally. The problem remains intermittent and has not been reproduced by the dealer. The vehicle and its components are available for inspection upon request. The vehicle previously operated normally in Electric Mode. My primary safety concern is the unpredictable loss of expected acceleration without warning, particularly when acceleration is necessary to safely enter or merge with traffic.

68C recall software update has caused some form of loss of power, doesn’t fully power off, it feels as if it is throttling the electric motor causing the engine to suddenly start and rev high (5-7k RPM) bypassing the warm up time that’s built into the software for the engine. Now on 09/14/2026 (Monday) the vehicle through a DTC code “P0BBE-00” High Voltage Battery Voltage Variation. It went into limp mode while attempting to drive up the roll back (flatbed tow truck). Currently awaiting Dealer diagnostic.

I am submitting this complaint regarding a critical electrical issue and potential safety hazard that occurred immediately after the 68C safety recall software update was performed. Since the 68C recall completion, my vehicle has experienced significant overnight High Voltage (HV) battery drain, losing approximately 10% of its state of charge while parked and powered off. I have returned the vehicle to the dealership three times for diagnostic testing. On the most recent visit, the dealership, working with Jeep engineers, claimed that the radio system fails to sleep, causing a continuous power draw from the battery. However, the dealership and Jeep engineer attributed this failure to a dash cam plugged into the factory 12V auxiliary power outlet (cigarette lighter socket). I believe this diagnosis is technically flawed and incorrect: The factory 12V outlet is off when the vehicle is powered down, meaning no current is drawn by the accessory once parked. The dash cam has been in continuous use since I purchased the vehicle without any issues; this battery drain issue began exclusively after the 68C software update. Blaming standard user accessories for the infotainment system's failure to enter sleep is unacceptable and ignores a likely software bug introduced by the 68C update. If the vehicle's electrical control modules fail to power down properly overnight, it poses unpredictable electrical and thermal risks. I escalated this issue to an FCA Case Manager, who upheld the engineer's assessment without addressing the underlying software defect. FCA has failed to perform due diligence in resolving this issue.

I took my 2022 Jeep Wrangler to my local Jeep dealership for a 21D Fire risk campaign recall inspection and powertrain software update. Car had to be towed to dealership a few days after services were completed, and was diagnosed at dealership, with an offline TCM, throwing a U0101 code. Car was in good working, driving order prior to the recall and software update and is now completely inoperable.

The engine/dash wiring harness connector XY230A suffered severe thermal degradation, resulting in a melted pin and causing a complete loss of communication with the Transmission Control Module (TCM, Code U0101-00) and continuous dashboard warning lights (Service Connection Error). This vehicle has a chronic history of unresolved electrical failures, having been brought to Stellantis Puerto Rico dealerships three times for the exact same issue, most recently in June 2026. This condition is directly related to the thermal and fire hazard characteristics described under Safety Recall Campaign 26V363 (Mopar Recall 21D) for 2022 Wranglers. However, the Stellantis regional warranty manager formally denied recall and powertrain warranty coverage based on routine oil change loyalty metrics and second-owner status. The dealership forced an upfront payment of $2,311.38 under a partial diagnosis to replace the harness. The vehicle was rendered inoperable and held for 30 days and actually held in service. in addition, they don't bring loaner. The manufacturer's regional warranty manager from Stellantis initially confirmed that I would incur zero costs for this repair but later retracted the decision formally denying recall and powertrain warranty coverage due the reason mentioned above. Regional management flatly denies any relationship between this melted harness failure, the active safety recall or the vehicle's electrical repair history I formally demand a full reimbursement of all repairs and rental expenses, and that my powertrain warranty and safety recall rights be fully honored as originally promised

When driving the vehicle down the highway it just randomly hard shifted out of know where almost causing us to be rear-ended. The dash then said service transmission continue in drive do not shift or turn engine off until you reach a desired location. You may not be able to shift again until services. It then limited power to the vehicle. It was show codes U1003, U0101, and U0402 multiple times. The vehicle was taking to a dealer where it was "parked" only it wouldn't go into park. We had to put the e-brake up holding it in place at the dealer so it wouldn't roll. Then when attempting to shut the vehicle off it only stopped the engine from running. It stayed in ACC mode all night until the dealer could mess with it the next day. The dealer is now saying it's just a dead battery. This is unsafe and could have ended very badly just for a dead battery that showed no signs of issues before hand. For a vehicle that on has approximately 57k miles and is 4 years old this is horrible.

While traveling at highway speed on the freeway, the vehicle experienced a sudden and complete loss of motive power/engine shutdown without prior warning. The instrument cluster immediately displayed a vehicle graphic outlined with red lines alongside an alert message instructing to shift the vehicle into Park and turn the engine off. > The sudden loss of propulsion in live freeway traffic created an immediate safety hazard and collision risk while attempting to navigate across active lanes to the shoulder. > The vehicle previously had its high-voltage traction battery replaced approximately one year ago under warranty. The vehicle has been taken to an authorized dealership for diagnostic scanning and triage. Dealership said they can do a software update… that’s not okay

while vehicle is driving multiple dash alarms will start cycling through including stop/start, service electronic stability control, speed control messaging unavailable, service airbag system, service 4WD, engine light and ABS light, anti skid lights all come on, the speedometer goes to zero, and the power steering goes out. Driving highway speeds and suddenly having no power steering is a safety issue as well as being unsure if airbags etc are even functioning any longer. The problem has happened multiple times. The vehicle was inspected by a Jeep dealership as well as another shop in town and the codes were reproduced. They were unable to fix the issue and despite testing a "star connector" and finding it in good condition and unable to reproduce the issues were advised to replace that part anyway and see if they could reproduce the problem again at my expense. During this time the recall for 2022 Jeep Wranglers with NHTSA campaign number 26V363 came out and i requested to wait for further repair work to be done until the recall was repaired as it also relates to the power steering. I saw a fix had been published and return to the dealership to have the recall repair performed and was told that upon further inspection of the recalled part, mine passed the test, which was apparently a wiggle the wire and inspect the harness for ware only and my vehicle is no longer listed on the recall. I feel these things may still be related and I am extremely frustrated that I have a 4 year old vehicle that I am making payments on and paying insurance on that has been parked (not in my garage as it was a fire risk in the recall) and I don't feel its safe to drive and don't feel that Jeep or the local dealership are being honorable with their product.

On 7/25/2026, the vehicle set DTC P1128 (Closed Loop Fueling Not Achieved, Bank 1) with a steady check engine light and no drivability symptoms. I cleared the code with an OBD2 scanner. My wife had driven the vehicle to a local store and back earlier with no issues. Shortly afterward, with the vehicle loaded for a trip, she applied the brakes at the end of our driveway and the vehicle did not come to a complete stop. She described the pedal response as delayed. She proceeded onto our residential street at low speed and applied the brakes again. The brakes did not function properly. The pedal traveled to the floor with minimal braking effect and the vehicle came to a rolling stop rather than a controlled stop. She pulled to the side of the street and cycled the ignition off and on. She then drove approximately 10 to 20 feet and applied the brakes again with the same result: pedal to the floor, rolling stop only. Steering effort was normal throughout. We judged the vehicle unsafe to drive and cancelled the trip. It has not been driven since. Within 10 hours of the braking failure, the vehicle experienced a complete electrical failure. The key fob would not unlock the doors and I had to use the physical key. With the brake pedal depressed and the start button pressed, the instrument cluster illuminated for less than one second and then shut off, repeating. The vehicle would not start and remains disabled. No crash, no fire, no injury. The vehicle has open safety recall 21D (NHTSA 26V-363) listed as incomplete. All other recalls were completed at dealer service in May 2026. Current mileage is ~62,000.

On 2/2/26 I took my vehicle to Thomson Motor Company to have the 68c recall repair completed. On 2/5/26 my car wouldn’t start and I was stranded. My vehicle was towed back to the same repair facility. On 2/6/26 they told me that my regular battery died and had to be replaced. After researching when the hybrid battery is re-coded/reprogrammed from the recall, it causes the regular battery to die due to and system overload to the regular battery. The dealer wouldn’t take responsibility or Jeep wouldn’t take responsibility. The dealer wanted to charge me $500 so I had the local Auto Zone replace the regular battery with a new battery for $238.00. I sent in a copy of the slip from the dealership to show what they had recommended and submitted a copy of the credit card receipt to Jeep and they are refusing to cover the replacement. I would not have had to replace the regular battery if the 68c recall didn’t cause my regular battery to die due to the overload. From my understanding they should have been replaced at the same time to keep this from happening. I want to be reimbursed for replacing the battery, for the cost of the tow and for the diagnostic at Thomson Motor Center.

I am writing regarding my 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe (VIN [XXX]), which has been out of service since January 2026 as a direct result of a manufacturer safety recall involving the high-voltage battery (Safety Recall 68C). The vehicle became inoperable because of this recall-related issue and has remained at the dealership ever since. Since that time, Aventura Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram and Stellantis engineering have made extraordinary efforts to repair the vehicle. According to your own service records, the following components have been replaced or repaired: The original high-voltage battery A first replacement high-voltage battery that proved to be defective A second replacement high-voltage battery The Power Integrated Module (PIM) The high-voltage wiring harness Multiple engineering diagnostic sessions involving Stellantis Field Technical Representatives and engineering personnel Despite months of repairs and repeated involvement by Stellantis engineering, the vehicle has still not been restored to normal operating condition. My 2022 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (VIN [XXX]) has completely lost power and shut down while being driven in moving traffic on three separate occasions, each time without warning. When it shuts down, the vehicle loses engine power and forward motion along with power-assisted braking, power-assisted steering, and hazard lights, and it has to be towed. The first failure occurred on or about XXX, at about 13,000 miles. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, and a bad battery cell and loose transmission control module terminals were addressed under warranty, but no cause for the shutdown was found. The second failure occurred on or about XXX, at about 14,608 miles. The vehicle shut down again in traffic and was towed in, leaving me stranded for over an hour. Replaced both batteries and No cause was found. The third failure occurred on or about XXX, at about 16,913 miles. The vehicle shut down a third time in traffic and was towed in. Both batteries failed testing and were replaced, and a blown 150-amp main fuse was replaced, but again no cause was identified. The vehicle still remains at the dealership and has not been diagnosed or repaired. After three repair attempts over roughly 4,000 miles, the manufacturer has not found or corrected the cause of these repeated electrical shutdowns. Losing all power in moving traffic, with no propulsion and no steering or braking assist, is an extreme safety hazard that could easily cause a crash. There has been no crash, injury, or fire so far, but the defect keeps recurring and the vehicle is still unsafe to rely on and is still at the dealer as no root cause has been found. I am requesting that NHTSA review this dangerous, unresolved defect. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I own a 2022 4xe, ater the 68c recall the power of the electric drive is limited. Frequent power loss occurs on highway driving during acceleration (merging onto highway or passing other cars). Despite the battery being charged up to 50% there is only 25% power available. The car is a plug in hybrid vehicle. The internal combustion engine starts in these cases with several seconds delay. During that time the vehicle does not accelerate sufficiently to safely merge onto a highway or pass other cars. The power loss happens without warning during critical drive situations like merging onto a highway or passing other cars. The driver expects a continuous level of power by the car, not a sudden power loss. This is reported by countless other drivers on all social media platforms as a consequence of the 68C recall that affects 350 000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe. Jeep does not respond to customer complaints or requests for clarification. I would like to request all these cases be looked into, and also contacting Jeep for the new parameters put in place to protect the battery, such as battery temperature and power limits put in place to "protect" a hardware issue within a battery with software

RE: SAFETY COMPLAINT FOLLOWING RECALL 68C (NHTSA Recall Number 24V-111 / Mopar 68C) I am the owner of a 2022 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe. Prior to having safety recall 68C performed, the hybrid system functioned flawlessly. Immediately upon receiving the vehicle back from the dealership after the 68C software flash, a severe drivability and safety hazard emerged. When driving in standard Hybrid/Electric mode, the vehicle experiences a sudden loss of power, hesitation, and a physical 'bogging down' sensation. Following this lag, the vehicle violently surges into gasoline mode, causing a sudden and unpredictable acceleration lurch after the vehicle hesitates to accelerate. This behavior occurs randomly at both low neighborhood speeds and highway speeds, making it impossible to smoothly modulate throttle input. This creates an immediate safety hazard when attempting to pull out into cross-traffic, merge onto highways, or maintain a safe, predictable following distance. The vehicle hesitates when throttle is demanded, creating a risk of being rear-ended, followed by an uncommanded surge. The dealership states the vehicle is 'operating as designed' according to a regional Jeep field engineer, implying this dangerous lag-and-surge behavior was intentionally introduced into the vehicle's management software by the manufacturer to mitigate, the recall notice noted above, battery thermal risks at the expense of occupant driving safety. The manufacturer’s recall remedy has traded a fire risk for an active moving traffic hazard." Several forums and AI searches show this is a common problem the manufacturer has created to avoid a costly recall by addressing the real issue with the battery’s fire risk. Instead they have intentionally reduce the battery’s performance causing a safety issue with the vehicle’s acceleration and operation.

My 2022 Jeep Wrangler is subject to NHTSA Recall 26V363000 involving power steering wiring that may overheat and cause a vehicle fire. I was advised of the safety risk and informed that repair parts are not expected to be available until approximately August 2026. Due to the risk of fire, I do not feel safe keeping this vehicle at my home or parked near my residence until the recall repair is completed. The dealership has advised that no repair is currently available. I am requesting assistance from the manufacturer, including alternate transportation, a loaner vehicle, or other accommodations, until the safety defect can be repaired. I believe it is unreasonable to require owners to continue possessing a vehicle with a known fire risk while the recall remedy is unavailable for an extended period.

I own a 2022 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon that is included in FCA Recall 21D (NHTSA Recall 26V-363). According to FCA, high resistance electrical activity in the electric hydraulic power steering pump connection may cause overheating of combustible materials and potentially result in a vehicle fire. FCA and NHTSA have advised owners to park affected vehicles away from structures and other vehicles until a remedy is available. On or about June 2026, I contacted my local dealership, Lee Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM, 3700 Raleigh Rd Pkwy W, Wilson, NC 27896, to schedule the recall repair. I was informed that there are currently no repair parts available and no remedy available. I was further advised that there is nothing I can do to prevent the defect from occurring and that the dealership would not notify me when parts become available. The only recommendation provided was not to park near anything flammable. My Jeep is my primary means of transportation, and I rely on it daily for work and family obligations. I continue making payments and maintaining insurance on a vehicle that the manufacturer acknowledges may present a fire risk. I believe it is unreasonable and unsafe to expect consumers to continue operating these vehicles without an available remedy or meaningful assistance. I have enrolled in the Mopar notification system to be notified when repair parts become available. I request that NHTSA review FCA's handling of this recall and determine whether additional action is necessary to protect affected consumers.

The uconnect system/ networking with sirusxm guardian, SOS mode, wifi all fail. This affects any remote unlock or lock feature, connection with Sos button in event of emergency. This has also affected the ability of vehicle location updates if stolen, health system check complete failure, system health of 4xe battery monitoring and health failure, navigation system as well as mileage updates for the vehicle. Since November I have worked with sirusxm guardian and a Certified Jeep dealor on the issue with no resolution found nor repairs able to be made. Not only is this showing failure through inside of the vehicle, but also through Guardian, the Mopar account page as well as the Jeep app. Mine personally shows last connection over a year ago. When attempts were made to remote throufh Sos by giardian, the system failed on their end. When attempted through the vehicle, it says system failure, no network connections. I have spoke with several Jeep owners who either have or are experiencing the same issues and not only is this a huge safety concern, but could potentially be a large liability if this is not resolved due to a failure of any conjunction in the event of an emergency. I work in the safety and emergency field for 15+ years and this is a highly recommended feature but Jeep is failing to provide a resolution or issue a recall to be investigated; in which if there is a system failure in an emergency and an owner is unable to activate any service, this could potentially be a very big lawsuit. This is my last attempt at having a recall issued before going any further
