Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

DURING NORMAL OPERATION, A COMPONENT CALLED A "CHAIN SLIDER" FAILED DUE TO ABRASIVE WEAR AFTER 11807 KILOMETERS (APPROXIMATELY 7400 MILES). SUBSEQUENTLY, THE PART CAME FREE FROM IT'S MOUNTING AND LODGED IN THE DRIVE SPROCKET OF MY 2007 KYMCO VENOX 250 CC MOTORCYCLE, CAUSING THE REAR WHEEL TO LOCK UP DURING OPERATION. FORTUNATELY I WAS OPERATING THE MOTORCYCLE AT LOW SPEED AND AVOIDED A CRASH. I PURCHASED A REPLACEMENT PART, AND UPON EXAMINATION I REALIZED THAT THIS PART WILL ALSO FAIL CATASTROPHICALLY DURING OPERATION. THE FRAGMENTS OF THE FAILED PART ARE AVAILABLE FOR EXAMINATION. *TR

1. PEOPLE 50CC KYMCO, STALLED 3 TIMES DRIVING IT HOME THE DAY WE BOUGHT IT! MANY PROBLEMS SINCE AND STILL NOT SOLVED. 2. STALLED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC > 15 TIMES SINCE PURCHASE CAUSING NEAR-INJURY, HAS TAKEN UP TO 24 HOURS TO GET IT STARTED AGAIN, AND ULTIMATELY TOTAL FAILURE REQUIRING $100 TOW BACK TO SHOP. HAVE SPENT COUNTLESS HOURS (IN SHOP, TRYING TO RE-START IT, MISSING APPOINTMENTS) AND SUSTAINED MANY LEG BRUISES TRYING TO KICK-START IT LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF TIMES. 3. 1ST, THEY REPLACED FUEL TAP, WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. NEXT, THEY REROUTED FUEL & PLACED A PLATE TO BLOCK HEAT; PROBLEM (STALLING IN TRAFFIC) WORSENED AND LED TO COMPLETE FAILURE--COULDN'T GET IT STARTED AT ALL. THIS IS WHEN WE TOWED IT IN. 3RD, THEY TOOK FUEL SYSTEM FROM A BUDDY 50 (GENUINE SCOOTER CO, NOT KYMCO) AND TRANSPLANTED IT INTO OUR KYMCO PEOPLE 50. SCOOTER NOW IS SLUGGISH, WON'T ACHIEVE SAME TOP SPEED AND HEAR AND FEEL A GRINDING SOUND AS IT DRIVES. FEAR RIDING IT DUE TO DANGER OF STALL IN TRAFFIC AND GETTING HIT BY CAR (A FEW NEAR-MISSES) AND NOT ABLE TO RELY ON IT FOR TRANSPORTATION. DEALER NOT WILLING TO REPLACE THE SCOOTER NOR REFUND OUR MONEY. *TR

Crash reported1 injury reported

MY BRAND NEW 2007 KYMCO PEOPLE 150 SCOOTER MALFUNCTIONED WHILE I WAS AT A DEAD STOP. AS I WAS HOLDING IT UPRIGHT AND REACHING TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION VIA THE KEY WITH MY RIGHT HAND, THE ENGINE SPORADICALLY REVVED UP IN RPMS. THIS ENGAGED THE DRIVE TO THE REAR WHEEL AND THE SCOOTER ACCELERATED OUT FROM UNDERNEATH ME. THIS CAUSED THE SCOOTER TO LURCH FORWARD INTO A WALL AT THE PLACE WHERE I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF PARKING IT. AS I TRIED TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE SCOOTER IT CAUSED ME INJURY TO MY HAND WHICH WAS ON THE HANDLEBARS. THE HANDLEBAR AND MY HAND CAME INTO CONTACT WITH THE WALL. THE SCOOTER DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE SCOOTER INSPECTED IT FOR POSSIBLE REASONS OR EXPLANATIONS FOR THE MALFUNCTION AND WERE NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE ITS CAUSE. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE SCOOTER REPAIRED. I WILL ALSO FILE THIS MALFUNCTION WITH KYMCO FOR THEIR ADVICE AND THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS. I AM SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE DAMAGE DONE TO THE SCOOTER AS A RESULT OF THIS MALFUNCTION. *TR

I PURCHASED A JM STAR OR SHANGHAI MOTORS EXPRESSWAY 250 SCOOTER, THIS HAS BEEN RE-BADGED IN THE US AS A REDSTREAK EXPRESSWAY 250 ON JULY 14TH, 2007. AFTER RIDING THIS SCOOTER ON JULY 21ST AND STOPPING AT A GAS STATION TO REFUEL, THE SCOOTER WOULD NOT RESTART. WE HAD IT JUMP STARTED TO GET HOME, BUT THIS DIDN'T WORK TOO WELL. THE SCOOTER STALLED OUT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. IT DID START AGAIN WITH ANOTHER JUMP START BUT SPIT AND SPUTTERED THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. WE CALLED THE DEALER WHO SOLD US THE SCOOTER, HE STATED THAT THEY HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE BATTERIES. SO WE PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY AND CHARGED IT UP. THE TECHNICIAN AT THE SHOP WHERE WE PURCHASED THE SCOOTER ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE ALARMS WERE A DRAW ON THE SYSTEM AND THAT THEY HAVE BEEN REMOVING THE ALARMS. HE EXPLAINED OVER THE PHONE TO MY HUSBAND HOW TO REMOVE THE ALARM. THE WEEKEND OF AUGUST 10TH, I WAS RIDING MY SCOOTER AND WE STOPPED TO GET ICE CREAM AT A PLACE LOCALLY. WHEN I WENT TO START MY SCOOTER IT WAS DEAD AGAIN AND DID NOT START. WE GOT IT JUMP STARTED AND RODE IT DIRECTLY HOME. WE BROUGHT THE SCOOTER TO THE DEALER WHO SOLD IT TO US ON AUGUST 15TH, THEY DETERMINED THEY THOUGHT IT WAS A CHARGING PROBLEM. THEY ORDERED A STATOR FOR THE SCOOTER. THE STATOR ARRIVED AND THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE THE CORRECT TOOLS TO REMOVE THIS PART. THE TOOL WAS ORDERED AND RECEIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP, THE PROBLEM WAS STILL NOT FIXED. THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR WAS ALSO REPLACED WHILE THERE. THE TECHNICIAN SAID ALL OF THE PROBLEMS WERE FIXED AND WE RODE IT HOME AFTER BEING IN REPAIR FOR 25 DAYS. I RODE THE SCOOTER FOR 2 DAYS, AND ON THE 2ND DAY IT DID NOT START AGAIN. **** PLEASE NOTE THIS WEBSITE DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO PICK THE CORRECT VEHICLE MAKE OR MODEL, THEREFORE THE VEHICLE DESCRIPTION IS NOT CORRECT, PLEASE REFER TO THE TOP OF THIS DESCRIPTION FOR THE CORRECT MAKE AND MODEL ***** *JB

Manufacturer communications

A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

ENP-599

EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL

This Service Campaign is to modify the behind the cab system mount (bracket) for 40 specific vehicles only.

ENP-587

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

This bulletin provides instruction on how to replace rubber isolator components to maximize system safety and lifetime in 257- and 267- series side mount systems.

ENP-536

EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY

It may be necessary to replace worn rubber isolators in 237 series side mount systems. This communication provides how to modify the isolator, and remove and replace with new isolator material. In some cases, the isolator rib or ribs may split and move away from the main channel. This communication also provides how to remove and replace such portion with a section of isolator material.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
