The defect: KZRV, L.P. (KZRV) is recalling various 2002-2018 recreational trailers equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. See a list of the affected trailer models at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V749-9547.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. The risk: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
The remedy: KZRV will notify owners, instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2018. We purchased pair of Trailer King tires for our 5th wheel RV on June 15, 2020 that were mounted on the rear axle. On a camping trip in late April we noticed that one of the tires appeared to be tracking oddly when we were on the highway. We took it to the local tire shop where we had purchased the tires and they told us that the tread had separated and the tire had to be replaced. It is fortunate that we noticed this problem. We could have had a blowout resulting in damage to our vehicle and/or a serious accident.
