Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.

Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS

Oct 15, 2014
422,509 units potentially affected
The defect: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 Lexus LS vehicles manufactured May 9, 2006, to July 20, 2010, 2006-2011 Lexus GS vehicles manufactured January 6, 2005, to September 10, 2010, and 2006-2011 Lexus IS vehicles manufactured August 30, 2005, to September 10, 2010. Due to anti-corrosion plating remnants, fuel may leak from where the fuel pressure sensor is attached to the fuel delivery pipe.
The risk: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
The remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will clean and reseal the fuel pressure sensor mounting area, free of charge. The recall began March 3, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

OCTOBER 2015 HAD BRAKES REPLACE DO TO BAD FRONT PADS/ROTORS AT FLOW LEXUS. DROVE AROUND FOR SEVERAL WEEKS TO BREAK IN BRAKES. EVERYTIME I DEPRESSED BRAKES 90% OF TIME HEARD METAL TO METAL LOUD SCRAPPING NOISE ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND I WAS IN MOTION. JANUARY 4,2016 TOOK AUTO BACK TO FLOW LEXUS. BRAKES RETESTED, LUBRICANT AND FLOW LEXUS STATED COULD NOT DETECTED THE NOISE. YET ON MY WAY HOME IN MOTION I DETECTED THE BRAKE NOISE AGAIN ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THE BRAKE SOUND IS HEARD WHEN I SLOW UP TO STOP AS WELL AS WHEN I SLOW UP TO TURN. THE SOUND IS SO LOUD OTHER PEOPLE TURN THEIR HEAD TO LOOK TO SEE WHAT'S WRONG.

MY CARS STEREO SOUND SYSTEM HAS ALLOT OF STATIC DONE SOME RESEARCH AND HAVE COME TO A CONCLUSION THAT ITS A FAULT FROM MANUFACTURERS AS MANY CUSTOMERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUES WITH THEIR MARK LEVINSON SPEAKERS WHERE THE FOAM AROUND THE SPEAKERS FALLING APART. ANOTHER ISSUE IS WITH THE VSC ISSUE WHERE IT COMES ON DASH ERROR AND SHUT THE TRACTION CONTROL OFF MAKING AUTOMOBILE TO PEEL OFF AND LOSE TRACTION. LAST ISSUE WHICH IS COMMON IS THE HEAD LIGHT SPRINKLER ALWAYS TURNING ON WHEN STARTING AUTOMOBILE WASTING WASHER FLUID. *TR

Crash reported

I HAVE A 2008 LEXUS GS460 WHICH WAS HAVING ISSUES WITH NOT STARTING, ON TWO OCCASIONS IT NEEDED TO BE JUMP STARTED, ON THE SECOND OCCASION AFTER BEING JUMPED, I WAS ADVISED TO DRIVE TO THE LEXUS DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT AGAIN. AS BEFORE, THERE WERE MANY "DUMMY" LIGHTS LIT UP ON THE DASH BOARD, ONE OF WHICH WAS THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WHICH I ATTRIBUTED TO THE BATTERY BEING DEAD. AS I WAS DRIVING TO THE DEALERSHIP, I ACCELERATED SLIGHTLY (ABOUT 30 MPH) TO PASS A VEHICLE THAT HAD STOPPED TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN AND MY LEXUS STARTED TO FISH TAIL ACROSS TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC, THANKFULLY I DID NOT HIT ANYONE BUT I DID CRASH MY CAR INTO A SNOW BANK, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE CAR AND A MINOR CASE OF WHIPLASH. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL WAS NOT FUNCTIONING DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE BATTERY HAD DIED BUT EVEN AFTER BEING JUMP STARTED STILL DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO RUN THE TRACTION CONTROL. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THE REASON THE BATTERY KEPT DYING WAS DUE TO A LUMBAR SUPPORT BUTTON THAT WAS DRAINING THE BATTERY. SO MY ISSUE WITH THIS IS THAT I COULD HAVE VERY WELL BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT OR HURT SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE UNBEKNOWNST TO ME MY TRACTION CONTROL WAS NOT WORKING IN DECEMBER IN WISCONSIN ON ROADS WITH ICY PATCHES. THIS SEEMS LIKE A DESIGN FLAW TO ME, I DON'T SEE ANY REASON WHY A VEHICLE WOULD BE/SHOULD BE DRIVEN WITH OUT THE TRACTION CONTROL WORKING IF THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH IT. *TR

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
