2024 Mazda CX-90 Steering Problems

Car purchased 6/12, drove home and noticed steering wheel sticking when turning to left. Had not noticed during test drive (as all turns were Right handed). Called Dealer and took car in for spring adjustment/repair on 6/24/2026. Car was ok for short time and then steering again stuck when turning to left. Called Dealership again and they took vehicle from 7/17-7/23. Steering was fine for a few weeks and noticed steering sticking again dropped off Monday 9/14/2026. Awaiting call from Dealership as to status on 9/18/2026

The vehicle had a “sticky steering” wheel. It was over correcting and not allowing for proper steering which was making it dangerous to drive. After speaking directly to Mazda, we took it to the Mazda dealership they asked for me to take it to and they evaluated it. The dealership confirmed the issue stemmed from a previous recall that had been repaired on the vehicle and they discussed it with Mazda. They requested Mazda pay for the cost of the failed recall however Mazda is pushing back and demanding I pay half the cost of repair (which I cannot afford) Mazda acknowledged it is a safety issue and I shouldn’t be driving this vehicle and that the necessary repair is the same one as the prior recall.

My main complaint is the steering system. They had the recall fixed at a Mazda dealer in Tennessee before I purchased it. My steering wheel always seem to be crooked I took it to the dealer for an alignment that did not fix the issue of the car going side to side. I took it to three other shops for alignments and the car still seems to go in different directions no matter how correct they get the steering wheel. I also took the car to the dealership about the AC system making loud rattling like a can of nuts and bolts. I had five videos of the issue and let them see them and listen to them they had the car for approximately 32 days and returned it and told me there was no problem. While they had the car I had four different loaners 2025 and 2026 models and none of these models had any of the problems that my 2024 had. They were quiet and there were no issues with the steering rack. My arms actually get tired steering this car down the road because it always wants to go in a different direction it is not a hard steer is very subtle but it keeps you correcting the steering wheel from left to right the entire trip. After returning my car after a month of having it the AC was blowing very poorly and I took it back again. They evacuated the system and recharged it which seem to help however, now it seems to blow cold and then go back to warm sometimes blowing cold or if the car is just parked rather than going down the road. There have not been any warning lights or issues other than the general feel of the car wanting to go side to side when you get it going in a straight direction it wants to almost purposely go to the right or go to the left and then when you correct it it wants to go back to where it was it is very subtle. Lastly there are issues with the blind spot monitoring. In my previous Mazda it worked flawlessly and never falsely alerted me. However in this car the cx90 fails to notify me or sometimes notifies me when I'm sitting still next to a tree.

Heavy and sticky steering. While cornering or turning steering wheels can become stuck and does not return to central position and is very heavy. Reported to Mazda USA but they refuse to fix even though this is a know issue with a recall. Concen for the safety of my family while driving the car.

The contact owns a 2024 Mazda CX-90. The contact stated that while turning the steering wheel to the left, the steering wheel became stuck momentarily and experienced resistance while attempting to return the steering wheel to center. The contact stated that additional force was needed to return the steering wheel to center. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the steering rack and pinion were inoperable and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.

I purchased the vehicle used. The issue I have been having is the steering feels sticky, heavy, or briefly resistant when turning. It is very prominent when turning the steering wheel to the left, especially going around corners and rotaries, but even bends in the road. When trying to straighten out after the turn, I have to jerk the steering wheel back to the other direction. This becomes a control issue to keep within my lane. Driving straight the issue is present as the steering doesn’t self‑center smoothly. The issue happens once the car is "warmed up" - if I started cold in the morning, it is not present, but within a few minutes of driving the steering effort changes unexpectedly. The issue has been ongoing since March 2026.

At approximately 50–65 mph, the steering wheel can become stuck or extremely difficult to move when I attempt to steer left or right, as if the steering is physically sticking. This creates a serious safety risk because the driver may be unable to make an immediate steering correction at highway speeds. I brought the vehicle to an authorized Mazda dealership and specifically requested that they determine whether the problem was related to the previous 6524A recall. The dealership documented my complaint as the steering wheel getting “STUCK” at 50/65 mph and referenced Recall 6524A and increased steering effort. The dealership inspected the vehicle and marked the steering concern FAILED. Their written recommendation states that the vehicle “needs steering rack.” The estimated repair cost is $2,236.45, with a total estimate of $2,524.19 including fees and taxes. I escalated this issue to Mazda Corporate and requested coverage because the vehicle previously received a safety recall repair involving the same steering system. Mazda Corporate denied coverage, leaving me responsible for the repair. The financial burden is also a serious concern. I currently cannot afford the approximately $2,500 repair, meaning I am unable to have this documented safety defect corrected. This puts my family in the difficult position of potentially needing to operate a vehicle with a known steering issue and also raises concern that other owners could face the same situation if they cannot afford the repair. Mazda dealership confirmed my car completed the Recall 24V-022, however, I am still experiencing a Sticky steering wheel. A sudden, brief increase in steering effort, a "notchy" or binding feel during minor lane corrections or long highway curves, and failure of the wheel to smoothly return to center.

I leased that car Mazda cx-90 from Mazda of [XXX] [XXX] Since i got the car i had feeling the steering wheel its not normal, also the water its under normal level when i did the oil change and the maintenance i mentioned all the issues i have but they didn’t do anything till the last time when they did the oul change the inform me that i have to replace the steering wheel gear and the RADIATOR for $4000 they said its not under the coverage anymore over 36000 miles, and they didn’t say anything about what i have told them before ! Campaign 6524A Recall was completed in JUNE 2024. The recall repair has now failed and the steering is sticking/malfunctioning when you turn the steering wheel. Reliable Mazda dealership in Springfield Missouri informed me yesterday the recall was already completed and now I will be responsibility for the bill to repair the failed RECALL repair. Which the repair was a new spring and grease.... The car is not safe to drive. The steering wheel sticks and you have to forcefully jerk the wheel to center the steering wheel again. We do not have the money to pay nearly $4,000 to repair a failed recall that Mazda should take care of.

When curving left my steering wheel will get “stuck”. It becomes heavy and then jerks back like it just “unlocked”. I haven’t had to pull it back forcefully, yet, but I’m sure it’s not far off. Went to Mazda dealership who state it’s mechanically related to a rack and pinion within the steering components. My car was part of the initial “sticky steering” recall which the previous owner had done in March of 2024. Happy to allow inspection if needed. My safety, along with the safety of others, is at risk anytime I travel along a curve where I could cross into on coming traffic because I am unable to forcefully move my steering wheel out of the “sticking” position. Potentially deadly. Mainly notice it around speeds of 45+ regardless of weather.

"Sticky Steering" was fixed under a recall during a previous owner of my car. The issue has reappeared causing the steering wheel to stick when making turns or adjustments. The steering wheel often fails to retun to center on its own while driving down the road, and requires force to unstick it. This obviously creates a safety risk as the steering can be unpredictable while driving. The issue has not yet been inspected as I am waiting to find out if it will be addressed under warranty, though it is a known issue and concern with this vehicle. Not warnings or messages have appeared prior to this issue.
