Vehicle: 2022 Mercedes-Benz S580 The vehicle is experiencing a severe and violent drivetrain "jolt" or "push" during gear transitions, specifically when shifting from 5th to 6th gear at cruising speeds. On multiple occasions, the jolt was so forceful that passengers believed the vehicle had been rear-ended by another car. This behavior is unpredictable and creates a significant safety hazard, as it causes a sudden change in vehicle momentum while driving in traffic. The issue has been reported to the authorized dealer (Fields Mercedes Lakeland) multiple times. The dealer kept the vehicle for over 40 cumulative days and performed motor/transmission mount replacements and "software calibrations," yet the violent shifting persists. Additionally, the engine produces an excessive vibration and loud noise during extended operation in high temperatures, which ceases only when the ECO/Auto-stop mode engages. I am concerned that the transmission or torque converter may fail abruptly while at highway speeds, potentially leading to a loss of propulsion or a rear-end collision due to the unexpected deceleration/jolt behavior. The vehicle is suffering from chronic oil consumption issues. The 'Check Engine Oil Level (Add 1 Quart)' message has appeared twice: once on 10/31/2025 and again on 04/17/2026. This is despite the vehicle being exclusively serviced by Mercedes-Benz Lakeland. This recurring engine issue, combined with the violent drivetrain jolts and shifting failures, significantly compromises the vehicle's safety and reliability."

On multiple occasions, after the vehicle had been parked and not driven for approximately five days or more, the automatic parking brake locked in place and would not release. I attempted standard methods to disengage the brake, including manual release procedures and lightly rocking the vehicle, without success. The only way to release the brake was to apply significant pressure to the accelerator while in reverse, which caused the brake to suddenly unlock. The first incident occurred while the vehicle was parked in my home garage. At the time, my grandson was playing nearby. The sudden release of the brake after applying the accelerator created a dangerous situation and was extremely alarming. A second incident occurred several days later while I was on vacation. In this instance, I made sure no one was near the vehicle before attempting to release the brake. Anticipating the issue, I had my left foot ready to push on the breaks when I accelerated using my right foot which releases the parking. I brought the vehicle to a Mercedes-Benz dealership on January 5, 2026, where the car remained for nearly ten days. The dealership was able to replicate the issue exactly as described. The service advisor also had to apply significant accelerator pressure to release the locked parking brake. A certified Mercedes-Benz technician inspected the vehicle thoroughly, including scanning for fault codes and checking for rust or mechanical issues, but ultimately advised that this behavior was considered “normal operation.” I find this explanation concerning. Having to apply forceful acceleration to release a locked parking brake presents a clear safety risk, particularly in confined spaces such as garages or parking structures, and could easily result in property damage or personal injury

Was driving the car at 3:00 P.M. and all of a sudden thr dash display when total black out nothing on the display screen. Speed,fuel,turnning singles nothing total black out. Took it to the dealership to fix as this can and would be a life threathing at loss of life could and can happen in a traffic sistiution

Mercedes-Benz S580 equipped with 21-inch wheels has experienced numerous tire blowouts over the course of ownership — too many to count. The blowouts occurred during normal driving on typical roads. Several blowouts caused rim damage and created a dangerous situation, including moments where I nearly lost control of the vehicle. This appears to be a design defect involving the 21-inch wheel and low-profile tire configuration, which seems structurally inadequate for normal road conditions. The failures are recurring and not due to isolated hazards. Other S580 owners have reported identical issues with repeated blowouts on 21-inch wheels. This presents a serious safety hazard, and a permanent remedy is needed.

The contact owns a 2022 Mercedes-Benz S 580. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated and the engine stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failed CAM shaft solenoid. The contact was informed that the CAM shaft solenoid needed to be replaced. In addition, the contact was informed that the engine needed to be dismantled. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact referenced an unknown recall with a similar failure description; however, the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

Over ~3 years of ownership, the vehicle has experienced recurrent electrical and engine-management issues, resulting in 15+ service visits and ~100 cumulative days out of service at an authorized dealer. Patterns include: (1) electrical—keyless entry intermittently unresponsive, instrument cluster flickering/rebooting, multiple warning messages including a battery/electrical icon, HVAC/A/C becoming inoperative without cooling; and (2) powertrain/engine—check-engine light (MIL) illuminated, hesitation/limited power on initial acceleration, and rough operation after start. Safety risk: intermittent failure to unlock/start can leave occupants stranded; loss of power/hesitation creates risk when merging or crossing intersections; multiple warning messages/flicker are distracting; and loss of A/C in hot conditions has required operation with windows down to avoid heat stress. Reproduction/confirmation: The concerns have been observed by the dealer on multiple visits with fault codes recorded (codes UNKNOWN to me). Repairs/updates have been attempted, but symptoms recur after service. The vehicle has been inspected repeatedly by the authorized dealer and remains available for inspection upon request. Warnings/symptoms prior to failure: intermittent MIL, battery/electrical warning, cluster glitches/flicker, and A/C blowing warm air; some events followed periods where the vehicle would not unlock or start on the first attempt. Root cause: UNKNOWN.

Subject: Report of Spontaneous Sunroof Explosion - Mercedes S580 2022 Model Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I am writing to report a concerning incident that occurred on [XXX] at approximately [XXX] while I was driving my 2022 Mercedes S580 to work on [XXX] N. During my drive, I experienced a sudden, loud explosion within the vehicle. Initially, I believed it was either a gunshot or that I had been rear-ended. In a state of confusion, I quickly pulled over to the shoulder to assess the situation. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that my sunroof had shattered spontaneously. I am certain that this was not caused by an external object, such as a falling stone. There were no overpasses, bridges, or surrounding traffic that could have contributed to the damage. This was an extremely frightening experience, and I believe it is important to bring this matter to your attention for safety considerations. mechanical and safety-related failures observed in a Mercedes-Benz vehicle, specifically involving the suspension system, wheels, and braking components. Despite extensive repair efforts—including replacement of all four wheels and tires, complete AWD four-wheel alignment, and diagnostics performed at authorized Mercedes-Benz dealerships—the underlying issues persist. To date, the total cost incurred in attempting to remedy these defects exceeds $15,848. The vehicle and its components have been inspected by two independent Mercedes-Benz dealer service centers and a certified third-party auto inspection firm. All parties have confirmed, through drive testing and diagnostics, that the problems are reproducible and continue to impair vehicle safety and performance. The suspension and associated hardware have been identified as the root cause of instability and braking inconsistencies. These findings align with broader patterns observed in similar vehicles, suggesting a recurring defect that warrants intervention by the manufacturer. Despite clear evidence from multiple independent sources, the manufacturer has failed to initiate a recall or implement corrective measures. This failure poses an ongoing safety risk to operators and the general public. The vehicle remains available for further inspection upon request. Immediate attention to this matter is expected to prevent further liabilities and protect consumer welfare.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
This NCU replaces the prior NCU issued on May 15, 2025, and contains additional MY 2023 and MY 2024 vehicles which are highlighted below. In our continuing efforts to ensure the proper performance of Mercedes-Benz products and to enhance the satisfaction of our customers, Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (“MBUSA”) is extending the warranty coverage on the Diagnostic Module for Tank Leakage detection (DMTL) in certain Model Year (“MY”) vehicles listed below from the original New Vehicle Limited Warranty of 4 years/50,000 miles to 10 years/120,000 miles (vehicles certified as LEV II) and 15 years/150,000 miles (vehicles certified as LEV III), whichever occurs first, for the following condition: •Under certain circumstances, the DMTL may trigger erroneous Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) entries that may result in the illumination of the Check Engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp (‘MIL’).
ENGINE
Complaint Check Engine Light ON with DTC P012800 "The Coolant Temperature is Below the Specified Temperature" active and/or stored in the ME (N3/10). There are no drivability concerns related to this complaint. Cause Root cause varies Remedy Prior to performing any repairs for this complaint: With a cold engine, pressurize the high temp coolant circuit and while it's under pressure, release the cap on the low temp coolant circuit and check if the pressure drops right away or not. If the pressure drops, the lower coolant hoses are swapped. Correct this, fill, bleed and test drive the vehicle. If the complaint returns, then continue with the steps below. IMPORTANT: Use VMI to check for the following emission extended warranty –> Engine Thermostat (incl. software update) MY19-23, Various Models and Platforms (167, 190, 205, 213, 217, 222, 223, 232, 253, 290, 463) If the vehicle is covered under the above emission extended warranty, please perform steps outlined in the accompanying NCU prior to those outlined in this document. If vehicle is not covered under the above emission extended warranty or the complaint continues to occur, then proceed as follows: Check for available software updates to the ME (N3/10). If updated software is available, perform the update, clear the DTC and the perform each of the "WARM START" and "COLD START" test drives listed below twice. If the code does not re-appear then release the vehicle. If there is no new software available OR the DTC returns after the test drives then perform the following steps: • Drain the coolant through a fine mesh sieve and check for signs of debris. Additionally, inspect the coolant reservoir for debris. If any debris is found take pictures of the reservoir and the mesh filter and "flush" the system at least 2-3 times to clear as much of the debris as possible • Replace the thermostat and bleed the system as outlined in AR20.00-P-1142-04A, evacuate the system for 20-30 minutes instead of the 5 minutes specified in step 22 • NOTE: Please use all the tools specified in the AR document. The DTC will continue to populate if the circuit is not properly bled • NOTE: There are two valid thermostats to choose from in the parts section of this LI. Please verify which PN is applicable for the vehicle being worked on via XENTRY Parts Information • After bleeding the system clear the DTC and perform each of the "WARM START" and "COLD START" test drives listed below twice. If the DTC does not reappear after the tests, release the vehicle If the ME (N3/10) software is up to date, the thermostat has already been replaced, and the complaint persists open a TIPS case and attach the following documents: • Initial quick test • ME (N3/10) control unit log • The results of an R48 test from a “yes” response and from a “no” response • Pictures of the coolant reservoir and mesh sieve (mentioned above) WARM START · Begin with the engine coolant temperature at approximately 50 degrees C · Activate the AC system, if defrost is not in use open the windows · Drive the car normally until a coolant temperature of 75 degrees C is achieved · Depress the accelerator pedal 50% for ~5 seconds (partial acceleration) · Let off the accelerator pedal and let the car coast for ~10 seconds · Continue to drive the car normally COLD START · Drive for ~7 miles (normal driving) · Shut off the engine in a parking lot (or similar), wait 30 seconds, then restart and continue driving · Depress the accelerator pedal 50% for ~5 seconds (partial acceleration) · Let off the accelerator pedal and let the car coast for ~10 seconds · Continue to drive the car normally
POWER TRAIN
Complaint Complaints of a harsh 3to4 upshift Cause Lost torque adaptation values and negative fill times of clutch K27. Remedy Short-term measure: Note: All steps—including resetting the learned values and performing the stationary adaptation—must be completed to resolve the concern. 1. Perform IPR and follow the provided instructions. 2. Perform software update if available (IPR will automatically check for status of software availability) 3. Perform Special Function "Resetting of learned values 'Deceleration Mode'" (VGS > Special Procedures > Special procedure > Resetting learned values Deceleration mode) 4. Complete the standstill adaptation Long-term measure: A software resolution has been released for several model years with software levels 22A.3 (n3g222aa03ub) and 22A.4 (n3g222aa04ub). - Check VGS control unit log or eeprom .txt file for "Program Status" to determine your vehicle. Software is in the approval process for MY23 with 22A.3. Once the software is released, an update on availability will be added in IPR and in this LI document. As of 6/8, software released for the following model years: MY26 with 22A.4 A001 902 25 21 >> A001 902 96 21 MY24+MY25 with 22A.3 A000 902 26 99 >> A001 902 97 21 If the vehicle software level is not 22A.3 or 22A.4: A software resolution will not be created for these vehicles, please follow the short term solution to alleviate the concern.
STRUCTURE:BODY; WHEELS
Complaint Crackling and cracking noise from the outer wheel on the front axle when cornering Cause The noise is generated by a micromovement on the contact surface between the rim and the brake disk (wheel bolt group) and may be intensified by potential soiling. The more lightweight rim (AMG forged rim) transmits the noise louder; in the case of cast rims, the noise is generally not perceptible. This is not a technical defect, but rather a complaint concerning comfort. Safe operation of the vehicle is ensured at all times. Remedy Important note: The operations described below do not represent a permanent remedy in every case. The noise may reoccur again after an indefinite period of time; sanding the rims with abrasive media multiple times is not permissible. Only cleaning using the Hazet tool 4960-160 (recommendation) can be performed without any concerns each time the wheel is changed or if the complaint reoccurs. Replacing the parts (rim, wheel bolts, wheel bearings, wheel hub, brake disk) is not expedient in the event of this complaint. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Clean the components of the wheel bolt connection according to the WIS instructions Sand down the rim and brake disk bowl by performing the following steps: • Manually sand rim (old design only) in area of water drain bores (Figure 1; item A), approx. 1.5 cm left and right of water drain bore (Figure 2) Note: Use abrasive paper with grit size 80. The grooving in this area should no longer be visible (sand down approx. 0.1-0.2mm) • Also sand brake disk bowl using emery cloth or abrasive paper with a grain size of 120 • For vehicles equipped with the AMG ceramic brake system (B07), abrasive paper may not be used for cleaning on the brake disk side Note: Do not use any cleaning agent when cleaning on the rim side. Cleaning using abrasive paper with a grain size of 80 will suffice. Do not apply any grease, lubricant or paste after cleaning The brake disk bowl should be "bare metal" in the area of the imprints made by the hole (Figure 3)
POWER TRAIN
Single throttle lift-off clunking noise from the side shaft when moving off (audible at the outboard end). The noise is heard once in each instance when changing direction of travel. Note: Sound file in attachment Cause If the complaint is eliminated by experimentally loosening the outboard collar nut (by 1 turn), the problem is due to cracking of the microweld between the wheel bearing inner race and the joint housing of the side shaft. Note: The collar nut must always be replaced after being loosened. See also LI33.20-P-078406 Remedy Coat contact surface of side shaft with wheel bearing with Molykote paint. To do this, proceed as follows: 1. Remove side shafts 2. Clean contact surface A (see image file in attachment "Outer joint housing before") before coating with Molykote, using "spirit" (free of dust and grease) 3. Coat contact surface A (see image file in attachment "Outer joint housing after") with Molykote and leave to dry for "one hour" in removed condition 4. Reinstall side shafts Note: Before using the antifriction coating (Molykote), stir it or shake it thoroughly for (at least 1 minute).
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Complaint Traffic sign symbol for "Traffic Sign Assist" is blinking in instrument cluster without obvious cause usually with one of the following scenarios: • Flashing without a speed limit ("- -"). • Flashing when current vehicle speed is under speed limit. • Flashing between US speed limit symbol and European speed limit symbol. NOTE: • Verify that the concern falls under one of the attachment videos. If not, then it is outside of the scope of this LI. • This also does not cover "Traffic Sign Inoperative" messages on the instrument cluster. Cause There are two identified reasons for this concern: 1. Country code information stored incorrectly at a particular geographic latitude range. 2. Incorrect reference data when the vehicle is started and a GPS signal is not immediately available. Remedy Do not replace parts. Please open a TIPS case to the Body/Chassis/Entertainment inbox but read the below carefully: • The vehicle must be exhibiting the concern as shown in the attachment videos. • The vehicle DOES NOT need to be at the dealer, nor does it need to be brought into the dealership. • If the geographic location is known, it is very important that it is provided. • Provide any pictures or videos, if available. A new software for the head unit is scheduled for tentative release in Q3 2026.
