TIRE VALVE CRACKING
ON OCTOBER 14, 2008, ODI OPENED PE08-060 TO INVESTIGATE ALLEGATIONS OF CRACKED AND LEAKING SNAP-IN TIRE VALVES IN MODEL YEAR (MY) 2007 VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY.THE VALVES WERE SUPPLIED TO FORD BY TOPSEAL AUTO-PARTS, A SUBSIDIARY OF THE SHANGHAI BAOLONG AUTOMOTIVE CORPORATION IN CHINA.VALVES MADE BY TOPSEAL FOR AFTERMARKET SALE WERE THE SUBJECT OF TWO RECENT SAFETY RECALLS BY TECH INTERNATIONAL (08T-018) AND DILL AIR CONTROLS (08T-028), THE LATTER OF WHICH WAS INVESTIGATED BY ODI IN PE08-036 AND EA08-022.THE DEFECT CONDITIONS ADDRESSED BY THE AFTERMARKET TIRE VALVE RECALLS BOTH INVOLVED INADEQUATE RESISTANCE TO OZONE CRACKING DUE TO ISSUES WITH THE SUPPLY OF ANTI-OZONANT CHEMICALS TO TOPSEAL FOR A PERIOD FROM JULY TO MID-NOVEMBER 2006.THE AFTERMARKET VALVES WERE COMPOUNDED WITH A BLEND OF EPDM AND NATURAL RUBBER, USING A RELATIVELY LOW PERCENTAGE OF EPDM (EPDM PROVIDES INHERENT RESISTANCE TO OZONE CRACKING).HENCE, THE NEED FOR ANTI-OZONANT CHEMICALS AND THE PROBLEMS WITH CRACKING WHEN THOSE CHEMICALS WERE MISSING OR OUT OF SPECIFICATION IN SOME LOTS OF VALVES.BOTH RECALL CAMPAIGNS INVOLVED INSPECTION PROGRAMS TO IDENTIFY AND REPLACE VALVES WITH VISIBLE SURFACE CRACKING.ALTHOUGH THE TOPSEAL VALVES SUPPLIED TO FORD ALSO APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY THE ANTI-OZONANT SUPPLY ISSUES IN MID TO LATE-2006, FORD INDICATED THAT ITS VALVES WERE MADE AT A DIFFERENT TOPSEAL PRODUCTION LINE AND WERE COMPOUNDED WITH A HIGHER PERCENTAGE OF EPDM RUBBER TO MEET MORE STRINGENT SPECIFICATIONS FROM FORD.ODI'S ANALYSIS OF COMPLAINT AND WARRANTY DATA PROVIDED BY FORD SHOWED THAT PROBLEMS WITH CRACKED TIRE VALVES WERE SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER FOR MY 2007 VEHICLES PRODUCED FROM DECEMBER 2006 THROUGH MARCH 2007.FORD RESPONDED BY IMPLEMENTING CHANGES IN ITS MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR SNAP-IN RUBBER TIRE VALVES AND ALSO INCREASING THE QUALITY AND ACCEPTANCE STANDARDS FOR VALVES IMPORTED FOR USE IN ITS VEHICLES.WHILE THE COMPLAINT AND WARRANTY CLAIM RATES ARE ELEVATED FOR SUBJECT VEHICLES PRODUCED FROM DECEMBER 2006 THROUGH MARCH 2007, THE RATES OF LEAKING VALVES ARE WELL BELOW ONE PERCENT OF PRODUCTION FOR EACH OF THE PEAK MONTHS FOR ALL OF THE AFFECTED MODELS.A SUBSTANTIAL MAJORITY OF THE SUBJECT VEHICLES ARE EQUIPPED WITH TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEMS (TPMS) WHICH WARN THE DRIVER WHEN ANY TIRE PRESSURES DROPS BELOW 25 PERCENT OF RECOMMENDED INFLATION PRESSURE. AS OUTLINED IN A LETTER TO ODI DATED APRIL 6, 2009, FORD HAS AGREED TO SEND LETTERS TO OWNERS OF CERTAIN MY 2007 AND 2008 FORD, LINCOLN AND MERCURY VEHICLES TO PROVIDE INFORMATION ABOUT THE CRACKING CONCERN. LETTERS WILL BE SENT TO OWNERS OF VEHICLES BUILT FROM NOVEMBER 2006 THROUGH MAY 2007.OWNERS CAN OPT FOR A FREE DEALER INSPECTION.VALVES EXHIBITING SURFACE CRACKS OR AIR LEAKAGE RELATED TO OZONE ATTACK WILL BE REPLACED BY FORD UNDER ITS NORMAL WARRANTY TERMS.FORD EXPECTS TO SEND THE LETTER BY APPROXIMATELY MID-MAY 2009. The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer. The contact stated that after shifting the transmission from park(P) to reverse(R), the vehicle failed to respond. The contact removed and reinserted the fob key in the ignition to correct the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that an unknown transmission part needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The mechanic instructed the contact to pull the park release lever each time to shift the vehicle out of park (P). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

I buckle the seat belt and it just comes unbuckled spontaneously when I’m driving. I check to see if the seat belt is secure by pulling on it. It seems secure but still unbuckles. I usually have to redo my seatbelt every 5 minutes. I do not feel like it will keep me safe in a collision

My husband had purchased 4 brand new COOPER TIRES EVOLUTION H/T M+S size P235 / 65 R 18 a number of years ago. My husband has since passed away. I cannot find my sales receipt due to the fact my husband had paid for the tires in question. I do not know what he did with the sales receipt. I have a few good-faith efforts and attempts to bring this matter to COOPER TIRES but each and every time I got the same reply from them "NO we cannot help you. We will not be able to warranty your tires for you......we need a sales receipt......" I had my good friend take my vehicle to a local tire dealer and installer recommended by COOPER TIRES and this tire dealer found that: (1) all 4 COOPER TIRES on my vehicle look and are brand new (2) tire tread depth on all 4 COOPER TIRES on my vehicle are 8/32 " (3) three COOPER TIRES on my vehicle show a DOT date code of 2017 and one COOPER TIRE on my car shows a DOT date code of 3817 (4) all four COOPER TIRES on my vehicle have numerous cracks on the sidewall of the tires which is a manufacture defective and COOPER TIRES should replace all 4 tires on my car (5) the right-rear COOPER tire on my vehicle is leaking air from the sidewall due to the cracks. (6) COOPER TIRES should under the law include my tires under their national recall list because the COOPER TIRES on my vehicle have the same (1) make and model tire (2) the exact same size tire (3) all 4 COOPER TIRES on vehicle were made in the same factory as the rest of the recall tires (4) three of the COOPER TIRES on my vehicle have an issue with the date code (see recall NHTSA Campaign Number: 21T014000 for more info). I could go on and on but I think you get the idea. Also, I will hold COOPER TIRES legally liable if I get into a car accident due to its manufacture defective COOPER tires. The exact dates my good friend has contacted COOPER TIRES are: (1) May 01, 2024 (four times); (2) May 02, 2024 (three times). I asked for a call back but nobody returned my call.

If you set cruise control while driving under 45 mph the engine shuts off.

It happens every time I drive this vehicle. The ignition is lose, so the key jiggles and if their is too much bumping or shaking the key slightly moves and the seat and interior lights come on now I’ve tried Combat the issue with keeping the lights off on the interior and thought maybe I could turn off the seat function still haven’t figured that out yet

I was driving on the expressway and my truck just shut off. The car panel Illuminati to a check engine light and a wrench. I had to put on my caution light and make it to the shoulder. That was scary. I sat for 10 minutes before it started back up. I've taken it to the dealership and all they did was guess what the problem could be. They said it might be the fuel pump or something electric or the computer. That's not doing me any good, because I'm still having this problem.

HAD TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY AT 137,000 MILES. THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE TRANSMISSIONS AT THIS MILEAGE AND FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SOME OF THE COST. THIS IS RIDICULOUS.

I HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND SOME OTHER RELATED PARTS IN MY VEHICLE AND I WAS INFORMED BY A DEALERSHIP THAT THERE WAS A "SILENT RECALL" ON THIS TRANSMISSION AND THAT EVEN THOUGH FORD MOTOR COMPANY WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUES AS EARLY AS 2000 THEY CONTINUE TO INSTALL THEM IN VEHICLES. IF YOU LOOK ONLINE YOU WILL SEE QUITE A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS TRANSMISSION. I FEEL SINCE FORD KNOWINGLY KEPT USING THESE TRANSMISSIONS AND WAS WELL AWARE OF THEIR POSSIBLE FAILURE WHEN THEY REACHED 130,000 MILES THAT THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR AT LEAST A PORTION OF HE COSTS IF INDEED, NOT ALL OF THE COST OF REPLACEMENT. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A CAR COMPANY PUTS OUT A SILENT RECALL? DO I HAVE ANY RIGHTS? I HAVE ALREADY SENT A CERTIFIED LETTER TO FORD MOTOR CUSTOMER RELATIONS IN DEARBORN, MI AND I HAVE A SIGNED RECEIPT THAT THEY ACCEPTED MY LETTER BUT THEY HAVE NOT BOTHERED TO CONTACT ME AT ALL. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS AND IS THIS SOMETHING YOU CAN HELP ME WITH? THE FIRST TIME THIS TRANSMISSION CAUSED A PROBLEM WAS WHEN WE WERE IN 5 PM TRAFFIC ON A ROAD WITH A SPEED LIMIT OF 55 MILES AN HOUR AND THE CAR JUST STOPPED LEAVING MY FAMILY IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY TWO LANE ROAD WHICH WAS VERY DANGEROUS. WE WERE FINALLY ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER. I CAN FORWARD MY BILLS AND COPIES OF ONLINE CONVERSATIONS REGARDING THE FAILURE OF THESE TRANSMISSIONS.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
When performing any transmission fluid changes or topoffs involving MERCON SP, MERCON LV has replaced all versions of MERCON SP and can be used going forward. Mixing MERCON LV and MERCON SP in the same transmission is acceptable. After 30-Jun-2023, MERCON SP ATF will no longer be manufactured and will only be available until inventory depletes.

STEERING
This SKU is a front upper ball joint. The Customer communication requested return of unsold inventory to inspect for ball studs with excessive rotational friction in the ball joint assembly. Excessive friction in the ball joint assembly may cause a perceptible increase in steering effort.

Various vehicles equipped with a 4.6L, 5.4L, 6.8L modular 3 valve engine built on or before 8-Jan-2016 may exhibit symptoms that may include upper end engine noise, rough running, misfire and/or engine damage. If diagnosis leads to only camshaft/camshaft roller follower(s) requiring replacement, replace all of the camshaft roller followers on both banks/cylinder heads with part number 3L3Z-6564-A, not just the faulty roller follower(s). When replacing the camshaft roller followers, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-01.

The Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual has been revised for diagnosing electronic throttle bodies (ETBs). The ETC_ACT and ETC_DSD PIDs should not used to diagnose possible ETB concerns. The IDS has a limited refresh rate when reading these PIDs and cannot display quickly enough to validate a concern. The PCM automatically monitors these inputs more accurately and will set diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) when appropriate. Using these PIDs for diagnostics will lead to inaccurate results and improper ETB replacements. If a concern is intermittent and no DTCs are present, refer to historical DTCs and the PC/ED, Section 3 No DTCs Present Index chart for further information.
