2018 Nissan Rogue Engine Problems

Component/System: The fire department determined the cause of the fire to be accidental due to an electrical malfunction within the vehicle. The most extensive damage was located in the engine compartment, though damage spread to the passenger compartment as well. The vehicle is available on request. The vehicle caught fire while parked on a street. No injuries or displacements occured. However, the vehicle became "well involved" with fire, creating an active emergency that required emergent fire department response and suppression. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Since the vehicle receive so much damage, it would only be the emergency response and origin determination by Lubbock Fire Rescue. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle was inspected on-scene by Lubbock Fire Rescue (Unit E7). The fire department noted no signs of vandalism or tampering, concluding the cause was accidental. The police was also on the scene as well. Were there any warning messages? The owner stated they had driven the vehicle around 20:30 (8:30 PM) the previous evening and it had been parked since. The fire did not break out until approximately 05:13 AM the following morning. There wasn’t any warning lamps or unusual symptoms l present during or prior to that final drive. Summary: On May 28, 2026 the 2018 Nissan Rogue internally combusted. Subsequent inspection of the vehicle revealed fire damage in both the passenger compartment and the engine compartment, with the most severe and extensive damage concentrated in the engine bay. Fire officials found no evidence of tampering or vandalism. Based on the burn patterns and origin point, Lubbock Fire Rescue determined the cause of the fire to be accident al, resulting from an internal electrical malfunction within the vehicle.

Around 100,000 miles, my vehicle began experiencing intermittent hesitation, sudden loss of power, and frequent stalling. Prior to the complete failure, the vehicle would occasionally hesitate during acceleration and feel like it was losing engine power while driving. Over time, the problem became more frequent. One day, while driving approximately 50 mph on a side road, the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning and completely lost power. I was luckily able to avoid an accident, and no one was injured, but the sudden shutdown created a serious safety hazard and significantly increased the risk of being rear-ended by other vehicles. The vehicle continues to stall frequently and hesitate during operation, making it unsafe to drive. The failed component was confirmed by Nissan. The dealership diagnosed the issue and recommended replacement of the defective part for over $900. However, a Nissan mechanic explained that the repair only involved removing and replacing the common problem, which is the Mass air flow sensor, secured by two screws. I replaced the component myself for approximately $90, and the vehicle temporarily improved. Unfortunately, the stalling, hesitation, and loss of power have returned and now occur constantly. The failed component should still be available for inspection upon request. The issue was confirmed by Nissan personnel, although I completed the repair independently rather than paying the dealership repair cost. Prior to the failure, the vehicle showed symptoms including hesitation, intermittent power loss, and stalling beginning around 100,000 miles. These symptoms worsened over time until the vehicle completely shut down while driving. This appears to be a common issue affecting Nissan vehicles and creates a serious safety concern due to the risk of sudden engine shutdown while driving.

2018 Nissan Rogue. With just over 96,000 miles. I have been working on cars for 35 years and understand mechanics at a professional level. What component or system failed or malfunctioned?: Oil level sensor. Oil temp sensor. Knock sensor. Complete rod bearing failure. Outrageously high Oil temperature and Oil consumption. Rod Bearing started knocking. There were no warning lights or Low Oil level warnings. I was driving home from work yesterday and out of nowhere the rod bearing started knocking with no previous symptoms. I Immediately pulled over and checked the oil level. It was literally dry as a bone. It was so low I had to add 2.5 quarts to even show on the dipstick and 3.5 quarts to get it to acceptable levels. Not only did this literally ruin my engine, it's going to cost over $6,000 to repair. This is obviously related to the current lawsuit against Nissan for the exact same issue involving 2019-2026 models and should have also included 2018 models. This is an incredibly dangerous safety concern, as an unlubricated engine and/or overheated oil can cause total engine lock up and friction welding of internal engine components (which is what happened to me) can lead to serious accidents, stalls, and is a massive fire and explosion danger. After driving for awhile it will take a minute once putting foot on the gas for car to take off at a traffic light. Also malfunction error comes up on dashboard and car starts to slow down and try’s to cut off. Have to pull over and turn off the car, wait for a few minutes then restart the car.

After driving home from an appointment tonight 9/14/2024, my Nissan Rogue 2018 began shuttering, stalling and jerking. I was only 3 miles from home, and it happened all the way home, with times I didn't think the vehicle was going to restart. I was in saturday afternoon traffic and cars where swerving around me avoiding my car, and trying to not hit me. Vehile mileage is 71,256 miles and only myself as owner in it's entire history. I've had allthe oil and fluid changes necessary for it to operate. I have left a message by contacting Nissan USA, and will be contacting attorney because I am almost certain it's my CVT transmission failing.

The engine block cracked, and is available for inspection. Our family’s safety was in jeopardy because the engine block crack caused dangerous engine overheating. It could have caused a dangerous breakdown. Two independent mechanics have verified the problem, and identified it as pertaining to Nissan recall NTB20-25A, but Nissan has not included our vehicle in the engine recall. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone else other than the mechanics. The engine temperature display indicated the problem. We took the vehicle to the mechanic based on that warning sign. Piston rod broke and fell through oil pan causing damage. Ultimately resulting on car shutting down on freeway and having to be towed in the early hours of the morning. Unknown , on November 23, 2022. I [XXX] hit a deer that jumped out in front of me while driving 45, 50 mph not one airbag went off and I hit the deer pretty hard. The deer had broken legs and it was all broken up, scared me because not one airbag not no nothing was there to help me. I then called 911. The police officer arrived. Asked me if I need an ambulance. I said no he said I was very lucky because the crash was bad and then the car was towed and it took three months before I got my car back and now that I got my car back, it’s nothing like it was before it went in. So the CVT transmission on my 2018 Nissan Rouge has begun to fail. I ask my personal mechanic and took it to Star Nissan in Illinois and both said that the transmission is wearing out quicker than normal, they suggested I see if it had been recalled, and to my surprise, it hasn't and they are guessing that the transmission was worn out before I bought it. They were recalled for the same problem but were never taken. The bad thing is that there is no error or light that says the transmission is failing. I drive with the car on a daily and risk my life and others just cause the car doesn't move and I need to turn it off and turn it back on so it resets. The car smells like burning metal from the transmission. When I go 20 the rpms hit 5000 which should be normal.

We have had a gas smell in our garage, outside the car and inside the cabin and inside our house since 2022 and the service technician confirmed it but said I'd have to pay $160 for them to diagnose it plus parts and labor to fix it. There are lots of "Nissan Rogue gas smell in cabin" complaints AND there is a class action lawsuit filed on the 2020-2023 models. I've seen the same complaints as far back as 2009 so they have been alerted and know about this faulty assembly problem for years and have not taken responsibility for fixing it. We've gotten used to it and a neighbor came over yesterday and said he was getting nauseated from the smell in our living area so I put it out in driveway and this a.m. it wasn't as bad. It's a health and fire hazard and we have gas stove. I'm not sure if local TV Action Reporter could get anything done or if we should hire a lawyer. People walking up to my car exclaim "I smell gas!" No warnings on dash. It seems to be faulty assembly of fuel line to tank or in that area as it's strongest in back seat. My wife has MGUS, arthritis and other medical problems and this is causing a lot of mental stress worrying that the car will catch on fire while we're in it! I will Never buy another Nissan now that I see that they don't care what happens once you buy it! Please answer asap as we use it everyday and don't want cancer, etc. from inhaling gas fumes. Purely breathing the fumes (gasoline inhalation) can result in the following symptoms: coughing and other breathing difficulties, headaches/dizziness, heart failure, and more. Because of how the hydrocarbons attack the nervous system, a wide range of symptoms is possible, but they can all eventually be deadly.

Used key fob to unlock driver's door. Would not work. Used valet key. Started car, open drivers window and notice that nothing else in the cabin was operational. A/C would not turn on, could not put it in gear. Radio wouldn't function. The dash and console were dark. No message flashed. Couldn't exit the car as door wouldn't open. However, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN. Hung out open door to unlock with valet key. Called AAA, they couldn't stop engine from running and stated they weren't "authorized" to do anything else. Called Nissan emergency number and person came out and couldn't shut off engine and finally had to disconnect the alternator to stop car from running. After reconnecting the alternator, he could not start car. I called a tow truck the next morning and at that time, the car started. Nissan service garage couldn't replicate that problem except said that the actuator in the door had failed and needed replaced - but that wouldn't cause the other issues. They had car for over a week and could not replicate the problem of the car engine running while every other car function was not operational. The car has only 3824 miles on it although it is a 2018. This is a major safety issue. Contacted Nissan Customer Care Service. Since the problem wasn't replicated, they said they couldn't help. I feel unsafe and won't drive car due to no one being able to explain why that happened or whether it will happen again.
