2021 Nissan Rogue Brakes Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the brake system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Brakes reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I have been dealing with a loud grinding noise at low speeds when braking since 3 months after purchase. We have been to the dealership multiple times over the issue. The dealership can hear the noise but are unable to fix the problem. I fear it’s a safety issue and may cause brake failure as it’s super loud especially on steep hills. Rotors have been resurfaced and brakes replaced.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Answer: The fuel pump assembly failed. The component is still in the vehicle and is available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Answer: The engine stalls or loses power unexpectedly while driving at highway speeds. This creates a high risk of a rear-end collision, as the vehicle becomes a stationary or slow-moving hazard in active traffic without warning. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Answer: I have experienced the failure repeatedly. Although I contacted a Nissan dealer, they stated they could not verify or perform the repair because my VIN is not currently listed in the R21B8 recall database, despite the vehicle exhibiting the exact symptoms described in that campaign. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Answer: No, it has not been officially inspected by the manufacturer yet because they claim the vehicle is not part of the current recall population. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Answer: The symptoms include engine hesitation during acceleration, difficulty starting, and sudden stalling. These symptoms first appeared at approximately [ No warning lights or "Check Engine" messages appeared prior to the engine stalling.

in forward motion a loud griding noise on drivers side was noticed. Stopped at a repair shop and told the calipers are bad. Nissan has a recall for the rear brake calipers for failure, but we were told that our VIN. number does not apply, yet they failed less that 100,000 and the front calipers are original. Front should fail 3 to 1 to the back... the back should not have failed. Nissan Corp. did not want to entertain out complaint. Nissan Case# 55061723

I was parked then backed up to proceed forward. There was a pole with a cemented base in the corner left as I accelerated I ran in to this pole. Peripherally I don’t know how I missed the pole however I do take accountability for that. What concerns me is my front collision system and forward emergency braking system failed and did not activate or message me in any way. In the past if I’ve come too close to a vehicle or object in front of me my vehicle lets me know messaging me on my screen, side mirrors and my vehicle has even braked itself. I have become reliant on this system and I no longer feel secure or safe knowing this system intermittently works. The dealership Hart Nissan now Victory Nissan I bought my 2021 Rogue from said that certain areas of the front bumper can miss objects. This is not safe and unacceptable. Additionally it is costing me a $2,000 deductible which is unaffordable on my disability income.

I was driving forward and following another vehicle. It slammed on the brakes suddenly causing me to hit the back of the vehicle in front of me. I am supposed to have forward collision detection and automatic braking and neither one ever engaged to avoid the crash.

On September 1, 2023, I was headed north on I-95 in North Carolina. I was involved in a 3 car pileup where the Automatic Emergency Braking and Forward Collision Warning on my 2021 Nissan Rogue failed to activate. My vehicle had ADAS but almost killed my mother and me since they did not work. The car was totaled and the State Trooper wrongfully cited me for failure to reduce speed even though my foot was firmly on the brakes. The airbags were severed during impact and failed to deploy.

AEB/ABS braking system lights came on. I've had prior electrical problems with this car so I assumed it was an electrical malfunction. When I took it to the Nissan dealership they told me there was a brake fluid leak in the ABS actuator. The warning lights started Friday August 4th 2023. I took it in to get diagnosed Thursday August 10th 2023. I bought my 2021 Rogue in Jan. 2023 from Carvana with no knowlege of accidents or prior issues within the first few weeks I had issues with the distance sensor which Nissan recplaced. I have not had any accidents with the car since I've owned it.

When trying to start the car I had to push the Brakes almost to the floor to get it to start. THEY WERE EXTREMELY SOFT TO GET IT TO START THE ENGINE AND THEN THEY WERE GOING TO THE FLOOR BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. THEY ARE ALMOST TO THE FLOOR WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR STOPPING. Then while I was driving to pick up my prescriptions and approaching a Stop Sign, then 3 Stop Lights or approaching a vehicle that is already stopped in front of me my brakes are extremely soft and do not engage. They almost go to the floor. The car does not immediately slow down or come to a stop. I have to keep pumping the brakes and even then they were Extremely soft and went almost to the floor before Stopping. I have small feet Size 6-7 and One time my foot slid under the pedal. I had to use the Parking brake at the Stop Sign and the Stop Lights to feel comfortable enough that I would not move forward and be sure I that I came a full Stop. I pulled into a McDonalds Parking Lot less than a mile from my home to see if I turn off the car it will reset the brakes and it did not work. I called Elevated Nissan in Merriam, Kansas which is the Dealership I purchased it from (less than another Mile away from the McDonalds) they were closing in 25 minutes, so I drove less than 5 mph to get there and dropped off the vehicle. I showed [XXX] in service how they would go to the floor. He called me the next morning and after the vehicle sitting in the shop all night long the brakes engaged in a normal fashion the next day. They are trying to find out what is causing them to go soft. These Brakes can cause a Serious Catastrophe resulting in injury or worse. While driving down a road at 40mph that has a speed limit of 45 there are a set railroad tracks that you go over. Of course I slow to 20mph but the forward collision warning activated but it was not a warning but an out right complete stop of the vehicle which would have cause rear end collision if someone was behind me. And it was reported to Nissan about the situation and requested to disable this safety feature but was denied.
