Back windshield spontaneously shattered. About 10 minutes after the car was parked a coworker heard a loud bang and noticed pieces of the window falling off of the car. When I came out (I was already inside) cracks were still appearing and pieces were falling off. I had put on the rear defrost on the way into work, about 10 minutes.

YES. 9/4/2026 I WENT TO GET IN THE VEHICLE THAT WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOTICED THE BACK GLASS WAS SHATTERED I ATTEMPTED TO SEARCH THE CAR FOR BASEBALLS OR ROCKS NO EVIDENCE OF FOUL PLAY WAS FOUND AND WHEN I SHUT THE DOOR WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE THE WHOLE BACK GLASS CAVED IN. I WAS TOLD THE ROGUE HAS A DEFECTIVE BACK GLASS AND I AM THANKFUL I WAS NOT GOING DOWN THE HWY AT 70 MPH W MY CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT AS THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS. IT SAID HIGH TEMPS CAN BURST THE GLASS AND IT WAS 100 DEGREES THE DAY THE GLASS SHATTERED BUT WE OWN OTHER VEHICLES THAT WITHHELD THAT TYPE OF TEMP. I DONT THINK THIS IS FAIR I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO REPLACE THE GLASS WHEN MY VEHICLE IS UNDER MANUFACTURS WARRANTY ONLY HAVING 20K MILES ON THE VEHICLE IM A VERY DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER W NISSAN.
After multiple issues with the motor of my new Rogue, my windshield spontaneously shattered this week. I'm glad I was not driving the vehicle when it occurred because apparently it sounded like a shotgun when it ruptured. This is a major issue apparently for many Rogue owners. My concern is what else might be wrong with the vehicle - not a safe vehicle for sure. If you're a mom and driving with little kiddos - please find a safer vehicle! Nissan is repairing the windshield and is trying to offer to trade the vehicle - which is a sign that they are aware of this problem among Rogues.

While the contact’s wife was driving the vehicle at an undisclosed speed with the rear defroster engaged, there was a loud banging sound coming from the vehicle, and the liftgate glass shattered. The rear glass was not impacted by an object to cause the glass to shatter. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer; however, the cause of the failure was not yet determined. Rear Window shatter spontaneously while parked for 6 hours in a secured parking lot. Rear window could have shattered while driving which could easily startle the driver and cause an accident. There is a class action lawsuit regarding this issue with rear windows shattering on their own. "[XXX], et al. v. Nissan North America Inc., et al., Case No.XXX, in the U.S. District Court for the XXX" It was inspected by the rental company I obtained it from Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Opened passenger rear door, then closed it. Heard a loud noise. Not realizing what it was walked around the back of the car to see the rear windshield had exploded and glass what still falling and was hitting my legs when I got back there.

The contact stated that the failure occurred during extremely hot outside temperatures. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where the rear windshield was replaced. However, the contact stated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and expressed relief that the grandchildren were not occupying the rear seats during the incident. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 13,000.
The rear hatch window in my 2025 nissan rogue rock creek with 13,500 miles spontaneously exploded out while parked. This could have caused significant injury and or damage to another person or vehicle. The entire rear window shattered. The glass could have cut someone if the vehicle was occupied when it happened. I've had to file a insurance claim which has cost me my deductible. The dealership acted like they had no clue about this being an issue and has not helped in any way to repair or offer options. So now it comes out of my pocket.
Rear window suddenly shattered
The contact rented a 2025 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that after parking and turning off the vehicle, the contact exited the vehicle and closed the front driver’s side door and the rear hatch door glass suddenly imploded and shattered causing shards of glass to project into the rear seat of the vehicle. The contact stated that the glass was not impacted to cause the failure. The manufacturer and rental company was not yet contacted regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 42,115.
I had just finished pumping gas and heard a pop, and the sound of glass hitting the pavement. I walked to the back of my car and the back window glass had shattered. I saw no apparent reason for it to shatter. The car was stopped, the engine was off, and the side window was open because my dog was on the backseat. There was only a couple of duffle bags and a backpack by the liftgate. I did check online and there seems to be an issue and reports of the Nissan Rogue's liftgate glass shattering for no reason. It said I should report it. I will also call the dealer on Monday morning.
Dear Nissan Consumer Affairs, I am writing to formally report a serious safety issue involving my Nissan vehicle and to request full reimbursement for the repair costs I incurred as a result. On [XXX], I discovered that the rear window of my vehicle had unexpectedly shattered without any collision, impact, vandalism, or other outside force. The glass remained in place initially despite being shattered. However, when I closed the vehicle door under normal conditions, the entire rear window collapsed and fell inward. The force of simply closing the door should not cause a properly functioning rear window to fail. At no time was the vehicle involved in an accident, struck by debris, or subjected to any unusual conditions that would explain the damage. The spontaneous shattering and subsequent collapse of the glass strongly suggest a defect in the window, its installation, or another manufacturing-related issue. This incident created a significant safety hazard and could have resulted in injury to passengers. Vehicle glass is expected to withstand ordinary use, including the routine opening and closing of vehicle doors. Because this failure occurred through no fault of my own, I do not believe I should be responsible for the cost of repairs. Constant forward driving aids disabled due to blocked camera. Has been to the dealer on 6/11/25 7/16/25, 8/7/25 and was scheduled to go back tomorrow for the same issue as well as recall repair and oil change. That was cancelled due to the rear window blowing out this morning and having to have it repaired before driving in all the rain we are having. The "Forward Driving Aids disabled due to blocked camera" appears ALOT and i do get out and check the camera and there is nothing.
Was driving up the interstate to work this morning. Before i got to my exit my rear window exploded. This was a huge safety risk as the noise alone caused me to jump and almost veer into a car in the lane beside me which created risk for myself, my dog and others in the vehicles beside and around me. I called Nissan today and was told i had to file it on my insurance. I did call Highway Patrol and have a report issued and there was no sign of damage on what was actually left remaining in the rear hatch. There were no warning lights or errors prior to the incident, and the vehicle just had a State Inspection less that 6 months ago.

Back glass spontaneously broke while during. Heard a loud POP sound and when parked the windshield fell apart in pieces. Very unsafe and thankful no one was in the backseat. Glass broke from inside out..
Nissan has a known “glass blowing up” issue. Yesterday I was a victim to this. I am a new mom, thank god my baby was not with me. This could have cut her, she is rear facing so the glass would have definitely hit her. There was glass in the back seat, and probably all over my car. I fear for my safety and my child’s safety if glass can just explode in my car without any kind of outside influence.

On Monday May 4th 2026 I went to get into my car at 1:30pm started the car and heard what I thought was chains and the next thing I knew my rear window exploded! There wasn't any bebe shots or rocks nothing!! It scared me to death!! I called my Auto insurance and the connected me to Safe lite auto cost 480.00 to replace the window!!
I am unsure exactly what happened, I was driving and heard a pop look up and rear windshield was shattered, no impact, crash, and/or hit with an object. Once I looked at the window I noticed that it exploded around the window if following the contour of the shape. This was extremely weird, sudden, and dangerous especially considering I was driving on the highway, I tried emailing Nissan, however, in return I was only sent a discount coupon for floor mats. This is concerning and I have to pay $500 for a new window but I do not want to have to repeat this scenario
