1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue Interior & seats Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the interior system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Interior & seats reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

WE PURCHASED A 1998 OLDSMOBILE INTRIGUE IN OCTOBER OF 2009. WITHIN JUST A FEW WEEKS, WE BEGAN EXPERIENCING DIFFICULTY WITH THE PASSLOCK SECURITY SYSTEM. OUR KEYS WERE NOT BEING RECOGNIZED. THIS RESULTED IN PERIODIC STALLING, SOMETIMES WHILE TRYING TO GET THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN SO BAD THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO START THE CAR AT ALL. MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM. PLEASE MAKE GM PAY FOR THIS REPAIR. *TR

PROBLEMS WITH LOCKS AND LATCHES, WHERE AS THE DOOR LATCHES WILL NOT OPEN THE CAR, PREVENTING A PASSENGER FROM EXITING THE VEHICLE IF THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT. PRESENTLY BOTH OF MY BACK DOOR LATCHES WILL NOT OPEN THE DOORS IN THE BACK. I PLAN ON TAKING THE CAR TO A OLDSMOBILE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE. THE CAR IS A 1998 OLDSMOBIE INTRIQUE. AND I'VE HAD TROUBLE WITH VARIOUS LOCKS ON THE CAR SINCE I BOUGHT IT.

I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM TOWN ONE NIGHT, AND MY 17TH MONTH OLD SON SOME HOW SQUIRMED HALF WAY OUT OF HIS CAR SEAT. HE PROCEEDED TO PULL ON THE HAND OF THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR AND IT CAME OPEN. IT DID NOT OPEN ALL THE WAY, BUT IF HE HAD PUT ANY WEIGHT AT ALL ON THE DOOR, HE WOULD HAVE FALLEN RIGHT OUT. WE WERE GOING 55 MPH AND LUCKILY I HEARD THE WIND WHEN THE DOOR OPENED, SO I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR STOPPED BEFORE ANYTHING HAPPENED. MY CAR IS EQUIPED WITH CHILD SAFETY LOCK AND THEY ARE ENGAGED, SO I GUESS THEY JUST DON'T WORK. (CHILD SAFETY LOCKS IS ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS I DECIDED ON THIS CAR, JUST IN CASE SOMETHING LIKE THIS WOULD HAPPEN) THE CARS DOORS SHOULD NOT OPEN EVEN IF THE CAR IS IN GEAR. I DID CHECK ALL THE OTHER 3 DOORS, AND THEY DO NOT OPEN WHEN THE CAR IS IN GEAR. SO THE NEXT DAY I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED THE CAR TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY RECALLS ON THIS PARTICULAR MODEL. THEY CHECKED AND SAID THERE IS NOT. THEY TOLD ME THAT IF I WANTED IT FIXED I WOULD HAVE TO GET AND ESTIMATE FROM THEM AND THEY WOULD FIX IT FOR ME. I FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE TAKEN MY COMPLAINT AND FILED TO SEE IF IT WOULD QUALIFIY FOR A RECALL. ISN'T A RECALLS FOR SAFETY ANYWAYS? LUCKILY MY MOM WAS WATCHING TV ONE MORNING AND SAW THIS WEB SITE AND TOLD ME. I HOPE YOU TAKE THIS MATTER INTO SERIOUS CONSIDERATION, IT COULD HAVE TAKEN MY SON'S LIFE. SINCERELY, BRANDY LAYFIELD

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
