2018 RAM 1500 Fuel system Problems

This a Petition being filed and related to NHTSA Compl# 1827216. Petitioner respectfully submits this Petition to the NHTSA and requests a hearing to determine if Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) by and/or through its authorized dealer Hanania CDJR of Palm Coast (Hanania CDJR) has violated the 49 U.S.C 30120, or other applicable law, and where appropriate remedies consistent with the law. The facts set forth below demonstrate that: 1.the Petitioners vehicle is subject to recall; 2.the vehicle experienced a failure that left the vehicle disabled in the roadway in a manner was both consistent with the recall and also supported by the vehicle’s ECM fault codes P0087 and P016f; 3.Hanania CDJR received the vehicle inoperable on 04/24/2026 and engaged in work specifically related to the recall; 4.that Petitioner did not and has not authorized any work outside that of the recall and has not provided any payment authorization; 5.Hanania CDJR ordered the parts needed to complete work in alignment with the recall service protocol: 6.Hanania CDJR disassembled the engine and took significant efforts to replace the fuel injectors and related fuel system components; 7.Hanania CDJR encountered difficulty removing the final injector and determined that the #6 injector, a part they were replacing and that is authorized as a part of the recall, could not be removed due to carbon build-up; 8.Hanania CDJR then ceased all work and demanded that Petitioner redress the work they began under the recall through the purchase and installation of cylinder heads or a complete engine at a cost of between $11,856.20 and $19,538.20. 9.Hanania CDJR failed to complete the recall and the work they initiated; 10.Hanania CDJR has had the vehicle under their custody exclusively for work under the recall for 104 days as of submission: and 11.Hanania CDJR and/or Chrysler has not provided adequate remedy under the law to purchase the vehicle or provide an adequate replacement.

>What Failed: There is a known issue with the fuel tank safety roll over value not functioning properly in many of the RAM vehicles. The valve stops functioning properly causing the fuel not to enter the gas tank when trying to fuel up. As you try to fuel, the gas comes spraying back out of the gas tank filler neck all over the side of the truck, my hands, and the ground causing risk of fire. >Person filling gas and all others in area at risk of fuel fire. >Problem is known by the dealer, and they charge customers to replace gas tank. Dealer has refused to issue a recall. >Defective component has been inspected by dealer, and they are aware of the known issue with roll over value not functioning. >No warning lamps or messages. Just a visual of the gas not being able to enter gas tank and pouring out onto myself and ground at gas station.

Prior to paying cash for this vehicle, I had the dealership connect it to an obd-11 scanner to ensure that there weren't any codes. (I wasn't aware at the time that if the codes were cleared prior to the test drive and before the vehicle was drove a certain amount of miles nothing would show up ) The truck seemed to be in ok condition. Before even making it 10 miles off the lot to my home the salesman who was to follow me in my new vehicle had issues and upon return to the dealership the truck had several "stored" and "active" codes which the salesman again cleared and told me to drive home and come back Monday with the truck the truck went into catastrophic failure and has been sitting since. The codes are P0365 indicating the entire PCM is failing or failed and P0606 an internal processor code which has to do with the computers not being able to calculate wheel speeds with the transmission and engine and how much gas to spray. And a P0616C EatC level 2 RPM performance code. There codes have to have been issues within the truck from my understanding to be both active and stored codes. I was sold a dangerous truck and they're not willing to give my money back or put me in a safe vehicle.

Rollover valve in factory gas tank is defective and remains closed. This causes an issue when refilling the vehicle with gas. The gas pump will continuously stop filling as the fumes build up in the tank. This should be a recall as it’s a safety issue and a new tank cost over $2,000.

The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact owns a fleet of vehicles and after routine inspection of the current vehicle, the contact discovered that the front strap holding up the fuel tank had fractured. Due to the failure, the fuel tank was hanging off the vehicle and was only held into place by the rear strap. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,544.

I am reporting a fuel‑system defect on my 2018 RAM 1500. The vehicle has only 43,325 miles, which is exceptionally low for its age, and it has been properly maintained. Despite this, the fuel‑tank venting system has failed. The dealership diagnosed the issue as a faulty vent valve located within the fuel tank. This defect prevents the vehicle from being refueled at a normal rate. During refueling, the gas pump repeatedly shuts off, and a standard refueling process takes significantly longer than normal. This occurs at all stations and with all pumps. The dealer’s proposed remedy is complete replacement of the fuel tank at a cost of $2,104.64. Because the vent valve is integrated into the tank, they stated it cannot be serviced separately. A critical fueling component should not fail at this mileage under normal use, and the failure of the venting system raises concerns regarding safe refueling, potential fuel backsplash, and proper EVAP emissions operation. This is not a wear‑and‑tear issue. It is a premature failure of a core fuel‑system component. Stellantis has declined goodwill assistance, stating my vehicle is "too old", nor has it issued a recall for this defect, despite the unusually low mileage and the nature of the failure. A quick search on Google or YouTube yields multiple, and similar, customer experiences. I am submitting this report so NHTSA can evaluate whether this issue represents a broader defect affecting additional vehicles of this model and generation. I delivered the truck to the dealer at the end of December and the truck has been grounded for 60 days waiting for the redesigned filter. The ETA for the part keeps changing.

I wanna report a refuling issue with my vehicle. I have an issue with the gas pump clicking or turning off numerous times it started happening not to long after having the truck. I have to literally hold the pump with my hand to refuel my it. If I don't do this the tank will never get filled. I also have to watch closely so the gas doesn't overflow and pour out on my truck to the ground. This has happened in the past very dangerous and wasteful with gas coming out like that. I have read different fixes for the problem but no help from Dodge about it as apparently no recalls about this issue. Which it looks like I'm going to have to try and get it fixed out of my own pocket. It's a struggle everytime time to fuel it up. I think Dodge should fix this especially since it's already known about by them.

When fueling the vehicle it routinely clicks off and fuel is splashing out at times. When I bought the truck in 2018 the dealer said this is a known ram issue and would be a recall soon. The problem has never been fixed and is getting worse where there is fuel and vapors escaping the filler routinely. If you Google this on reddit forums or Ram forums it's a common problem. It also causes people to fuel their trucks improperly to get around the issue causing even more safety issues.

The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. While the contact's mother was driving at highway speeds, the vehicle stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact used a code reader and retrieved a code related to the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) that the HPFP was operating at half the required pressure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with an HPFP failure. The contact was informed that the high-pressure fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that the fuel system was contaminated. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under warranty. In addition, the contact stated that the high-pressure fuel pump was replaced in October 2025 under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel). The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 MPH and making a right turn, the vehicle started vibrating and almost stalled. The contact stated that the check engine warning light and a warning light for the throttle body was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the fuel pump had failed, and that the engine had been contaminated and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was no longer covered under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.

The gas tank will not take fuel. Tried multiple pumps at multiple gas stations and the pump keeps turning off. You have to keep restarting the pump over and over again. If you look it up online, there are hundreds of people having the same issue and most cases seem to be a faulty rollover valve, the filler neck itself or a complete replacement of the gas tank. If someone isn’t monitoring the fuel level with the ignition on and they keep restarting the pump, they may over fill the tank and pump gas on the vehicle or themselves which is hazardous and could be potentially fatal.

The vehicle had a recall of a high-pressure fuel pump. I was driving on the freeway when the vehicle suddenly stopped. I had the vehicle towed to the closes dealership. I was told that at the time the manufacture did not have the parts to replace the fuel pump and the debris passed through the system damaging filter and the catalytic converter. I was told by the dealership mechanic that there were metal shavings through-out the system. They partially repaired it and once I went to register my vehicle at the DMV they wanted proof of the recall repair. I took the vehicle back but the dealership does not wish to repair the consequential damage the recall caused. I still do not have my vehicle or proof the vehicle is in a safe working condition. Dealership and Manufacture refuse to repair the vehicle.

1 of 2 Gas tank mounting straps released, rusted thru the frame and the gas tank was hanging by the rear strap only. could have been a huge fire risk if tank released and ruptured on the road.. has not been reported thru dealer yet, had same issue on my 2011 ram 1500 which was recalled to fix. only warning was seeing something hanging under my truck and hearing a new noise as the metal strap rubbed on the drive shaft.. i crawled underneath and found as described above.

Since purchasing my 2018 Dodge Ram brand new, I have experienced consistent issues while refueling. From day one, the fuel pump at gas stations would shut off multiple times during a fill-up, even when the tank was far from full. Initially, I believed this was an issue with individual gas stations or pumps. However, the problem has progressively worsened over time. At this point, the fuel pump shuts off more than 50 times during a single refueling attempt. It has become extremely difficult to fill the tank properly, and I have no reliable way of knowing when the tank is full. This issue frequently results in gasoline overflowing and spilling onto the ground, posing a serious safety hazard to myself and others, as well as an environmental concern. It also causes unnecessary fuel waste and stress during every refueling. After some research, I have learned that this issue may be related to the vapor canister or fuel system design, which has reportedly affected other Ram truck owners as well. I am filing this complaint to formally report the defect, urge investigation, and ensure Chrysler/Stellantis is held accountable for a resolution. This is a significant safety and environmental issue that should not be ignored.

The front fuel tank strap fell off and tank is now hanging. When looking at strap, I noticed the frame mount that holds strap was corroded/rusted and had snapped, causing strap to let go. This was a recall back in 2009-2012 on this same vehicle. This should be looked at ASAP and recalled. This is a safety issue. Thankfully I found this before tank dropped out while driving.
