2022 RAM 1500 Fuel system Problems

While accelerating the vehicle stalled and came to a complete stop. I was unable to leave the road way due to the vehicle stoping, shifting to park, setting the e brake. I then had to push start again and pull to the shoulder. The vehicle then indicated a battery warning light, and the voltage indicated the battery was below 12v. Upon returning home and restarting the vehicle all warning lights turned off and the battery voltage indicated no issues. This vehicle is on its 3rd 12v battery. It has gone to the dealer multiple times over the battery. It hesitates while accelerating but without expensive diagnostics I had no recourse.

Two week Monday July 6, around 3:15pm while driving down on highway passing lane suddenly the vehicle start loosing speed and after few seconds I noticed that the engine stalled. No warning light or anything, the steering wheel turns to very heavy and the break pedal is really hard as well. Fortunately near by there was a U-turn lane for authorized vehicles only and I was able to merge to it and stop. After that I was able to start the vehicle immediately with no issues. Behind me there were at least 10 other cars trying to pass a line of semi trucks and I was lucky to nobody crash on my rear. I took the vehicle to the dealer, they run tests and tried to reproduce but no success. Besides the dealer no one checked anything due to there was no substantial damage or anything. Actually this was the second time that the vehicle engine stalled. First time was couple months back while my wife was driving in low speed trying to move out from a stopping light and the engine stalled.

On [XXX] at approximately [XXX], my 2022 RAM 1500 (VIN [XXX] ), equipped with the 5.7L V8 Hemi eTorque mild-hybrid system and currently at 45,000 miles, experienced a sudden engine shutdown and complete loss of throttle response while traveling approximately 25 mph on [XXX] , heading toward Colonia in active evening traffic. The accelerator pedal became unresponsive, the vehicle began coasting, and within seconds the truck shifted itself into PARK and engaged the parking brake automatically. I had to release the parking brake to move the vehicle off the road. After restarting, which required noticeably more cranking than normal, and disabling the auto-brake feature, I attempted to drive again. Within roughly 15 seconds the throttle was sluggish, the rear wheels chirped as the truck jerked and bucked, and the engine died a second time, again shifting into PARK and engaging the parking brake. The safety risk was significant: a sudden, uncommanded loss of motive power on a public road, followed by automatic PARK engagement and parking brake activation in active traffic, created a high risk of a rear-end collision and left me with no throttle control to safely position the vehicle. The only warning indication was a red battery icon that illuminated on the dashboard during the stall events themselves. There were no warning lights, messages, or other symptoms in the days or weeks leading up to the failure. I did experience a single similar stall some time ago during extremely cold weather, but yesterday was a warm day, so a cold-temperature correlation does not appear to apply here. The vehicle has not yet been inspected or the problem reproduced by a dealer, independent service center, manufacturer, police, or insurance representative. After a nearly four-hour wait for a tow truck, the vehicle was transported to Liccardi Ram and is available for inspection upon request. My son was driving down the road and the truck shut off in the middle turn lane. He safety was at risk because he was stranded in the middle of the road and everyone was driving around him. While going approximately 15 mph the truck shut off and said press brake to start like it does upon entry into the vehicle when it hasn’t been running, and then to put it in park. I had no gas and had to stop on the middle of the road to switch the truck into park, turn it all the way off, then restart it and then release the parking brake.

I own a 2022 Ram 1500 with a 5.7-liter V8 equipped with the eTorque (mild hybrid) system. On October 24, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., I was driving southbound on I-25 when the battery warning light illuminated, followed by several other warning indicators on the dashboard. Shortly thereafter, the dashboard went completely dark, and I suddenly lost power steering. At that point, the truck was moving only on momentum. While I was able to brake and activate my emergency hazard lights, the vehicle eventually came to a stop on its own in a lane in the middle of the highway. Fortunately, traffic was moving slowly due to it being a Friday afternoon. This was a frightening and dangerous experience, particularly due to the sudden loss of power steering. I could have collided with another vehicle, or another vehicle could have struck me. I feared for my safety during this incident. The truck was eventually towed to a nearby Ram dealership, where the battery was replaced. I was informed that the battery had failed and, as a result, caused the entire vehicle to shut down. Approximately two months later, I began hearing a ticking noise from the engine—commonly referred to as the “Chrysler tick.” I had to return the vehicle to the dealership for a second time. Ram ultimately replaced the engine; however, I was required to pay approximately $3,000 out of pocket for the repair. Given these serious and costly issues, I am no longer confident in the reliability of the brand.

The vehicle is a 2022 RAM 1500 Laramie Crew Cab that experienced a complete failure of the 48-volt eTorque battery pack and Motor Generator Unit (MGU). On August 1, 2025, at approximately 11,374 miles, the truck became inoperable and had to be towed to the dealership. The dealership confirmed the failure of the eTorque hybrid system components. The vehicle has remained out of service since August 1, 2025, with multiple delays in sourcing the required replacement parts (battery pack and MGU). As of early October 2025, the truck remains at the dealership and has been non-operational for over 60 consecutive days. Safety Concerns: This failure presented a serious safety risk because the truck could not be driven or restarted after it stalled in the middle of a busy street. If the failure had occurred on a freeway or in traffic, the sudden loss of power could have led to a collision, placing the driver, passengers, and others on the road at risk. Inspection and Repairs: The failure was reproduced and confirmed by [XXX] Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM (La Mesa, CA). Chrysler/Stellantis engineering reviewed the case under Case #93835258 and authorized replacement parts. As of now, the vehicle is still not restored to operational condition despite multiple part shipments and attempted repairs. The contact's mother owned a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that her mother had noticed that there was an abnormal burning odor coming from the vehicle. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times. The dealer could not duplicate the failure on some occasions, and the dealer replaced the fuel injectors on other occasions; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that while her mother was driving 60-65 MPH, the abnormal burning odor was stronger. The driver pulled into a gas station. The contact's father was occupying the front passenger seat, and the contact and her child were occupying the rear seats. The contact noticed that there was smoke coming out between the bed and the cabin of the trunk. The contact's parents exited the vehicle, and the contact ran into the gas station with her child and asked for a fire extinguisher. The gas station worker went out to extinguish the fire with the fire extinguisher while the contact called 911. The contact stated that the vehicle caught on fire, and the fire originated underneath the vehicle, between the bed and the cabin of the trunk. The contact stated that the vehicle burned from the front side of the front doors to the rear end of the trunk. The front end of the vehicle did not burn, and the engine was in good condition. The fire was extinguished by two fire department trucks. There was no injury sustained. There was no property damage. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where it was totaled. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,350.

From the first oil change forward, I have reported an intermittent electronic problem with the display screen. The screen would fail to activate. None of the functions of the push buttons below the screen which control the widgets’ on the screen would function. The air control for heater and defroster being the main safety issue.

Going thru neighborhood stop signs, stopped at the first one and when i tried to take off I noticed the gas pedal wasn't accelerating vehicle like normal/ felt like a transmission slipping issue, but it finally "hooked up" and surged forward 100 feet to next stop sign, and after i stopped I hit gas pedal again only to stall out and roll thru the intersection. Brakes were almost unresponsive, and rolled about 60 seconds until truck finally shifted into park on its own and applied emergency brake. After the truck got to a complete stop, it started back up and drove fine the final 2 minutes of the drive home. No warnings/ check engine lights/ malfunction messages were displayed, no obvious signs of issues. 1. The malfunctioning component would be the motor, as it stalled out for seemingly no reason. But issue could be incorrect supply (voltage/ fuel/ air/) so something like the (fuel pump/ alternator/ control modules) could be actual culprit why truck stalled out 2. The safety of me and my passengers was at risk because we stalled out in the middle of an intersection, had it been a stop sign on a road with flowing traffic moving above 25 mph, an accident would most certainly be a good possibility. 3. The problem hasn't been reproduced by dealer or mechanic. Research into this topic yields countless similar issues with similar year and models by Ram. 4. No, vehicle want inspected by anyone but myself. This occurred in a small neighborhood with little to no traffic and no accident resulted from the truck shutting off. 5. Only symptom was a few seconds earlier, where from a complete stop it felt like the gas pedal wasn't responding at all, low rpm and almost stalling, then all the sudden the transmission "slipped" into gear and surged forward. The next stop sign 100 feet ahead is where the truck stalled and wouldn't start for a minute as i rolled uncontrollably thru the intersection, and it finally hard shifted into park and applied e-brake

2022 ram with 26,000 miles and the fuel pump is failing, check engine light on with a small emissions system leak as well. Upholstery under the driver and rear passenger seat is detached with exposed zippers. Truck is falling apart before it even reaches 30,000 miles but because of the time frame, despite the low miles and mostly highway driving in a rural area, out of warranty

In October 2024, my 2022 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, which I purchased brand new from Lynch Ram in Wisconsin, suffered a catastrophic fuel system failure while I was driving. The fuel rail—previously under recall—cracked, spraying diesel fuel all over the engine bay and sending smoke and fumes through the cabin vents. While the truck didn’t catch fire, the situation posed a serious safety risk. I had to have it towed to Zeigler Ram in Downers Grove, Illinois, where they confirmed that the failure was due to the known recall issue. They replaced the part under warranty, despite previously stating that the necessary component had been unavailable for months. Fast forward to February 2025, and the exact same issue occurred again while I was on a road trip to Michigan. Once again, the fuel rail cracked, spraying fuel over the engine and sending fumes into the cabin. My truck was towed to Zeigler Ram in Grandville, Michigan, where it's now awaiting repairs. This means the replacement part only lasted four months before failing in the same dangerous manner. Serious Safety Concerns Fire Hazard: Diesel fuel being sprayed onto a hot engine creates a significant risk of ignition, which could lead to an engine fire while driving. Cabin Fumes Exposure: Diesel fumes entering the ventilation system can cause driver impairment, dizziness, nausea, and other health risks, especially on long drives. Repeat Failure in a Critical System: A fuel system defect that fails twice in four months raises concerns about the quality of the replacement parts and whether the manufacturer has truly resolved the issue.
