2022 RAM 1500 Exterior lighting Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the exterior lighting system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Exterior lighting reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The onboard computer system, despite detecting a burnt out tail light, did not alert me. I happened to notice the tail light was not on because I remote started the vehicle, which turns on certain lights to indicate successful remote start, and I happened to notice the discrepancy in lighting when I walked up behind the vehicle. The fact that the on board computer system knew the light was out, and did not inform me could have put myself, my occupants, and others on the road at risk of collision and injury due to reduced marking lighting. Upon discovering the issue, I drove to the nearest auto parts store and purchased and installed a replacement bulb. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance, etc. There were no warning messages or lamps, however a scan with an OBD reader at a later date revealed a "conformed fault code" "B16D7-15 Left taillamp 1 Control-Circuit Short to Battery or Open"

The right turn signal light will not cancel when setting the turn signal back to neutral. The left turn will not light up the left signal. Setting the turn signal to the left signal has become the only way to cancel the right turn signal light.

When driving home on a rainy day on an active interstate road, 66 west bound lane my truck turned off engine. I was in right hand lane so I was able to coast to side of road. Once stopped the truck automatically on its own went into park. I could start truck but when I put it in gear to drive would automatically go back into park giving warning message shifter autocorrect active. Truck was towed to closest Ram dealership. It was determined third brake light seal was leaking and water ran down to the RF hub module and fried it. From reviews online I saw this was a common issue but it don’t see where this is a recall to be addressed. Differently a safety issue when driving and truck turns off. Luckily I was in right lane to get off this active road. I have repair cost receipt if needed. I called my insurance company for the tow. Geico.

The contact stated that there was condensation accumulating again in the taillights. The contact stated that the Blind Spot warning light had flashed and then turned off. This report pertains to the lighting system of the vehicle, specifically the parking light mode of the lighting system. When stopped at a dark, unlight turn out, with the engine turned off, I turned the head light control switch from "automatic" to the parking light position to ensure visibility of the vehicle to other drivers approaching/entering the turn out. I confirmed via reflection that the lights had turned on. Later, when I exited the vehicle to retrieve belongings from the back, I noticed that the lights were no longer on. I switched the light control to the off position, and back to the parking light mode, which activated the lights. I noticed an indicator on the dash. However within a few minutes, the lights were again switched off by the vehicle, the only notification being the absence of an indicator light on that dash. This unexpected, automated behavior put myself and others at risk, by reducing the visibility of my vehicle to other drivers near (but not on) a dark highway. This specific issue has not been brought to the attention to service personnel, as it appears consistent with other non safety critical lighting behavior which has been reviewed and deemed functioning as designed. There are no error codes or other diagnostic indicators present related to this issue.

The infotainment center will go blank and do a reset while driving, it does not store radio presets for long. Most concerning, I’ve been backing out of my garage when the garage lighting has been turned off and when the vehicles sensors detect a darker surrounding and adjust the dash and infotainment center light level, the infotainment center goes dark for a while and does it’s reset thing thus not having a backup camera until it has had time to reset.

Headlights are frosted up under 20 degrees Fahrenheit. A frost line appears and will not disappear without cleaning. Then it reappears again. I have never experienced this before with any vehicle. Dims the already dim front headlights, not good for safe driving practices.

This vehicle was purchased on 03/09/3022. After the purchased I start noticing the following. The light indicator on, vehicle stopped while driving, the motor idling, the radio data compromised, the horn blowing by itself, the tire indicator constantly comes on, and the mileage rotates while vehicle is sits. I’ve taken the truck to the dealership which malware was abstracted from the vehicle; which fixed everything but, it returned remotely. Additionally, while driving on the freeway, the vehicle stopped in the middle of the freeway!

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
