What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2022 RAM 1500, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
Truck for about the 6th time in 2 weeks, shut its self off while driving and slams into park. This has happened before and had to be towed to dodge because it wouldn’t restart. I told them what happened and they informed me it was low on fuel, that’s why it did it. But I was doing 60mph on a interstate and lost all power
The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle lost power and coasted to a stop along the curb, stalled, and the transmission independently shifted to park(P). The vehicle failed to restart, and the Police arrived on the scene to assist with traffic control. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who replaced the high-pressure fuel pump as part of the repair under NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V263000 (FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL). However, the repair failed to fix the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a second dealer, and it was determined that during the failure with the high-pressure fuel pump, the valves in the engine were damaged. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 139,000.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim

Warning light appeared and there were issues with with the start/stop feature. It was determined by the dealer that is was caused by an MGU failure.
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
The vehicle has already had the generator replaced due to failure and shutting off while driving down the road and the speed limit. The truck was in the shop for almost 6 moths, then the front drive shaft broke while driving in 2-wheel drive. Now while my wife was driving going 40 mph on HWY 96 the car shut off and put itself in park in the middle of the highway. We were lucky no one hit us and after a few minutes it restarted and we were able to get it off the road and have it towed to the dealer where it is right now.
I own a 2022 Ram 1500 Limited 4x4 (5.7L HEMI eTorque, ZF 8-speed automatic), VIN [XXX], approximately 40,000 miles. For roughly two years, the transmission has produced a hard, jarring downshift and lurch during normal low-speed deceleration, consistently when slowing from ~20 mph to a stop. This occurs both when the engine is cold and fully warmed up, ruling out a cold-start explanation. It happens under normal city driving, not towing or aggressive driving. The jolt is forceful enough that passengers, including my spouse, are reluctant to ride in the vehicle. I brought the truck to an authorized Ram dealership (Greenway Dodge, Orlando, FL) and left it overnight. The service manager stated this was “normal” behavior and that his own vehicle did the same. When I noted it happens warm as well as cold, I was told nothing could be done. No diagnostic codes were pulled, no fluid inspected, and no TSBs checked during the visit. I later confirmed via NHTSA’s TSB lookup that a bulletin addressing rough downshifting on 5.7L eTorque Ram 1500 trucks (TSB 21-005-19 or superseding revisions) exists for this platform, and has NOT been applied to my VIN despite the dealership having full access to check. I’m filing this because: 1) the behavior involves unexpected, forceful lurching during low-speed deceleration that could startle a driver near intersections; 2) my dealership dismissed it without diagnostics or checking for applicable updates; 3) this appears to be a widely reported issue among other 2019-2022 Ram 1500 eTorque owners, suggesting a pattern rather than an isolated defect. I’m requesting NHTSA document this as part of its review of shift-quality/drivetrain behavior in eTorque-equipped Ram 1500 trucks of this model year INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
I am submitting this formal complaint regarding my Ram 1500, which I purchased from Tuttle-Click’s Tustin Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram less than one year ago. Despite the vehicle being relatively new to me, I have experienced multiple serious electrical and safety-related failures, including non-functioning power windows, air conditioning, horn, infotainment/display screen, backup camera, and vehicle sensors. These are not minor inconveniences; several of these failures directly affect the safe operation of the vehicle and my ability to properly operate and maneuver it. I do not believe a vehicle with these systems malfunctioning should be considered safe to drive. I am extremely concerned that I have encountered these problems after purchasing the vehicle from an authorized dealership and after spending my hard-earned money expecting a safe and reliable vehicle. I am requesting that these defects be thoroughly investigated and corrected immediately. I also urge the manufacturer and dealership to review whether similar electrical and safety complaints involving Ram 1500 vehicles indicate a broader recurring problem. I expect a prompt response and a meaningful resolution because I should not be placed in a position where I have to risk my safety or the safety of others simply by operating a vehicle I recently purchased.
I purchased my 2022 Ram 1500 5.7L new. Since purchasing the vehicle, it has experienced multiple electrical system failures that occurred without warning. The infotainment screen stopped functioning, which also caused the backup camera to become inoperative. In addition, the horn no longer works, the air conditioning has failed, and the power windows will not operate. These failures appear to be related to the vehicle's electrical system and have significantly affected both the safety and usability of the truck. The loss of the backup camera reduces visibility while reversing, increasing the risk of a crash. The horn is an essential safety feature used to warn other drivers and pedestrians of potential hazards, and its failure creates an additional safety risk. The vehicle was purchased new and has experienced multiple critical electrical failures affecting several systems. I am submitting this complaint so the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) can investigate whether these electrical failures represent a safety-related defect affecting other 2022 Ram 1500 vehicles.
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
On XXX at approximately 1:00 PM, while driving my 2022 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel on [XXX] east of [XXX]/north of [XXX], a rigid metal diesel fuel supply tube fractured at approximately 49,209 miles. The failure caused a substantial uncontrolled release of diesel fuel into the engine compartment and underneath the vehicle. Diesel fuel traveled underneath the truck and contaminated portions of the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle's check engine light came on, became disabled and required repair away from home. The failed component has been retained. Photographs show a visible crack/fracture in the metal tube itself rather than at a threaded connection. A replacement Mopar tube was obtained from a Ram dealer. The vehicle previously underwent the Ram/Stellantis high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) safety recall, Recall 01A/NHTSA 23V-263, on XXX. I do not currently know whether the failed tube was replaced or disturbed during that repair and have requested the prior repair records. I am reporting this because a sudden pressurized diesel fuel leak into the engine compartment presents a potential fire hazard. I have retained the failed component and can make it available for inspection. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the ABS, brake, and other unknown warning lights illuminated, and the messages "Traction Control Disengaged", "Shift Knob Required Servicing", "Cruise Control Disconnected", "Video Display Need Servicing," and other unknown messages were displayed. The steering wheel was firm and difficult to turn. The vehicle was turned off and failed to restart immediately. The contact stated that after several minutes, the vehicle restarted. Additionally, while driving with the cruise control feature activated, the feature deactivated inadvertently and the message "Traction Control Disconnected" was displayed. The fuel gauge on the instrument panel was moving erratically and then became inoperable. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road, turned off, and then restarted. The vehicle was then taken to the residence. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer four times and was diagnosed with an unknown communication error. During the first visit, the ABS module was replaced. During the second, third, and fourth visits, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure, but stated that there was a communication error. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH on the interstate, the vehicle lost traction and fishtailed on the wet roadway. While at a stop and turning, the vehicle started spinning like the vehicle was driving on ice, even though the outside temperature was hot. The local dealer was contacted and scheduled an upcoming appointment. The manufacturer was contacted but was unsure if a complaint was taken due to a language barrier. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
Power steering has an intermittent failure and have lost power steering multiple times on the highway. Warning lights come on a indicate steering issue. Have noticed this has been reported as an eps issue with the ram 1500's. This has been reproduced by an independent service center and they thought it might be a loose connection with water getting in. They tried to fix this but still getting the issue even when there is no rain. This just started once I passed the 36,000 mile mark and no longer under warranty This is a serious issue as power steering goes out unexpectedly

Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45-50 MPH in the rain, children in the rear of the vehicle informed the contact that the rear window was allowing water to leak into the vehicle. The water reached several electrical systems, including the rear braking assembly and the third brake light seal above the cab of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that the window and window seals needed to be replaced. The contact decided not to repair the vehicle out of pocket because of TSB Number: 23/098/23 Warranty Ext XL1, which addressed the failure. The dealer informed the contact that the parts for the repair were the same parts that needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not covered under TSB Number: 23/098/23 Warranty Ext XL1 because the TSB expired in 2021. The failure mileage was 53,467.
On [XXX] at around [XXX] I was driving my daughter to her dentist appointment on the [XXX] . I was on a phone call with my wife and suddenly the rear driver side windshield explodes with a loud pop. I was driving 55mph, scared, confused, and nearly crashed my vehicle. I got off the freeway and took photos of the window. The break in the window is unique as the 4 corners of glass are broken along with the center of the glass. It appears the frame of the glass was applying too much pressure and squeezed it out. There is an online petition for other owners that have experienced the same incident with their 2022 RAM [XXX] . I was driving down the highway, in light rain around 9pm, very little road traffic, when all of a sudden the forward glass of my sunroof exploded, it sounded like a gun shot. But then I heard wind noise and realized the glass on my sunroof just imploded towards the sky. Very alarming, no other sun roof issues previously on this vehicle. Safe lite replaced the sun roof, but it took several weeks for mopar/ram dealership to get the part in. It seems online I’m not the only person with a ram sunroof that’s exploded spontaneously.
Suspension
Reports naming suspension components — springs, struts, shocks, control arms and related hardware.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 45 MPH, there was a shimmy coming from the vehicle. The contact pulled into a parking lot, and the front passenger’s side tire, rim, brake assembly, and ball joint suddenly detached from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, and it was confirmed that there was no warranty coverage on the vehicle for the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.
While driving, the front passenger side ball joint failed catastrophically. The wheel completely separated from the control arm and folded under the truck, causing the vehicle to drop hard onto the suspension and nearly lose control. I was extremely fortunate not to be involved in a crash or killed. Photos taken immediately after the failure show the wheel collapsed under the truck and the damaged suspension components (upper/lower control arm and ball joint area). This is a sudden, total failure of a critical steering/suspension part with no prior warning symptoms that I noticed.
Exterior lighting
Reports naming headlights, tail lights, turn signals and other exterior lighting.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front driver’s side turn signal was intermittently inoperable. No warning light was illuminated. An unknown dealer was contacted, and the contact was informed that the headlight assembly needed to be replaced; however, the vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.
The contact owns a 2022 RAM 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the right turn signal was activated; however the right turn signal did not function as intended. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, the vehicle was not inspected. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with a recall related to the failure. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under a recall or warranty program. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 27,000.
Airbags
Reports naming the air-bag system — deployment behaviour, inflators, sensors and warning lights.
From owner reports, verbatim
Vehicle collided into another and airbags did not deploy on the Ram 1500.
I am in need of assistance with my most recent purchase of a 2025 Ram Truck with less than 3000 miles of utilization. After driving the vehicle for 45 minutes something didn’t seem right with the transmission. A multitude of error messages popped up on the cluster and the truck ended up in “limp mode” meaning it would not move. The Engine light comes on intermittently and I have legitimate concerns about the reliability and drive-ability of the brand new vehicle. When operating the vehicle in Round-abouts the vehicle looses the ability to accelerate and seems to lose propulsion which is a valid safety concern as well. The vehicle was returned to the Dealer for service and they have not addressed the issue only stating Chrysler Engineering has not yet determined corrective actions.

We purchased a Rhino USA Adjustable Trailer Hitch with locking hitch pins on Amazon. On its very first use, while towing our empty 1,600-pound Forester camper, the steel pin fractured where it enters the locking head. We heard the pin snap while making a slow turn about a quarter mile from our home. The locking head detached and was later found on the roadway. Fortunately, the pin remained in the receiver long enough for us to get home, but this could easily have resulted in the ball mount sliding out of the receiver and a trailer separation. We have retained both pieces of the failed pin and have photographs. Because the locking head detached and was found on the roadway, while the remaining pin stayed in the receiver only by chance, this failure had the potential to allow the ball mount to exit the receiver during travel which could be deadly to those on the highway. We have reported this to the manufacturer, but have not heard from them yet.

Interior & seats
Reports naming seats, latches, locks, linkages and interior fittings.
From owner reports, verbatim
Folded down the drivers side sun visor and it fell from the roof and was hanging by the wires that control the garage door opener. I could not see the road in front of me and had to pull over and push the stem back up in the bracket and leave it in the up position for it to stay in place.
The visors on both sides will just detach and unexpectedly fall from the roof of the truck while you are driving. They are fairly big and when they detach and fall it poses a risk of crashing. I have researched this and it seems to be a problem with many Ram trucks. I am very surprised there has not been a recall of this hazard yet. The drivers side visor fell off last June 2025. I was able to get it repaired at a Dodge dealership at no charge as it was under warranty still.

Seat belts
Reports naming seat belts, buckles, retractors and pretensioners.
From owner reports, verbatim
Safety put at risk. I noticed that the rear locking seatbelt on the driver side has never been connected to the bolt on the floor which was provided for the attachment. Factory oversight perhaps. What brought it to my attention was that it appeared to be "stretched" in appearance which looked peculiar. I proceeded to lift up the rear seat exposing the dangling locking side of the belt. It appeared that is was brand new, no bolt or washer scratches etc., indicating that it was never attached from the factory. The date below will be the date I noticed that it was not attached.
Dodge has a "safety" feature to keep the vehicle from driving off if the driver exits the vehicle with it in gear. The safety mechanism detects the seatbelt undone, the driver seat sensor and the driver door open. If someone gets out of the vehicle while it is in Drive, the parking brake is automatically applied, the engine put in park then powered off. My problem is this "safety" mechanism has been faulty from day one and the vehicle randomly puts the parking break on or turns off the engine, while I am in the driver seat, with my seatbelt on, and the driver door shut. This has left me stranded for several minutes in various places including half-in dangerous intersections. Dodge denies there is any problem and refuses to look at it. When I take it in they just park it in their back lot for 3-4 weeks without ever moving it then say it all checked out fine. I have been complaining for two years. I recently found a law firm with pending litigation for this issue. https://www.newsom.law/ram-stalling.html#:~:text=%E2%80%8BNewsom%20Law%20PLC%20is,without%20warning%20while%20in%20motion
