I own a 2022 Ram 1500 Limited 4x4 (5.7L HEMI eTorque, ZF 8-speed automatic), VIN [XXX], approximately 40,000 miles. For roughly two years, the transmission has produced a hard, jarring downshift and lurch during normal low-speed deceleration, consistently when slowing from ~20 mph to a stop. This occurs both when the engine is cold and fully warmed up, ruling out a cold-start explanation. It happens under normal city driving, not towing or aggressive driving. The jolt is forceful enough that passengers, including my spouse, are reluctant to ride in the vehicle. I brought the truck to an authorized Ram dealership (Greenway Dodge, Orlando, FL) and left it overnight. The service manager stated this was “normal” behavior and that his own vehicle did the same. When I noted it happens warm as well as cold, I was told nothing could be done. No diagnostic codes were pulled, no fluid inspected, and no TSBs checked during the visit. I later confirmed via NHTSA’s TSB lookup that a bulletin addressing rough downshifting on 5.7L eTorque Ram 1500 trucks (TSB 21-005-19 or superseding revisions) exists for this platform, and has NOT been applied to my VIN despite the dealership having full access to check. I’m filing this because: 1) the behavior involves unexpected, forceful lurching during low-speed deceleration that could startle a driver near intersections; 2) my dealership dismissed it without diagnostics or checking for applicable updates; 3) this appears to be a widely reported issue among other 2019-2022 Ram 1500 eTorque owners, suggesting a pattern rather than an isolated defect. I’m requesting NHTSA document this as part of its review of shift-quality/drivetrain behavior in eTorque-equipped Ram 1500 trucks of this model year INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The engine intermittently stalls when I press the accelerator. When this happens, the vehicle loses power, the AutoPark/electronic parking brake engages, and the battery warning light appears. This has happened more than once and creates a serious risk of a collision or being stranded if it occurs in traffic. The vehicle is a 2022 Ram 1500 Rebel with the 5.7L eTorque system. The manufacturer’s records show customer satisfaction campaign Z49 as completed, but the stalling problem continues. The symptoms appear similar to those under NHTSA investigation PE24-018. The vehicle is available for inspection.

Purchased my used RAM October 2024. On 5 occasions the engine stalled while driving. Lost all power and rolled to a stop when the parking brake engaged. Most recent incident was May 17, 2026. I went to my dealer with this complaint May 14th, there were no codes and I was told truck was operating as designed. I am unable to duplicate the event - but it happens when I slow down and then speed up - Stop sign, parking lot etc. Potentially I could have run over someone or crashed or someone could have struck me. I received no warning before the stall. The check engine light did not come on. While stalled the following messages appeared on my dashboard 1. press brake and push button to start; 2. Shifter autocorrect active; 3. Park brake auto engaged press brake + push switch to release. The truck restarted but battery light remained on and the lightning bolt red light stayed on.

Im driving vehicle and randomly the vehicle will shut off when making turns. It is random every so many months. But it has done in major intersections. It will immediately start back up so that’s good. But there are no engine lights. And dealership Does not seam like they can do a whole lot with engine no lights on. But it seems common when doing research online The vehicle is a 2022 Ram 1500 with 55,000 miles

While driving on the 60 East highway (approximately 65-68 mph), the vehicle did not accelarate and became completely non-responsive. Each time I pressed on the gas pedal, the RPM needle started trembling between 600-1100, which is much lower than where it should be while the vehicle was in Drive and traveling at this speed. This was an extremely dangerous situation as I had my wife and 5 month old daughter in the vehicle, and other vehicles were traveling significantly faster than me. I noticed some engine vibrations, and the digital gauge cluster screen presented information on the screen as if the vehicle was "off." It instructed me to push the gear lever into Park. It then instructed me to press the brake pedal and push the iginition button. All of this occurred as the vehicle was still coasting (likely around 40 mph). I pulled over on to the shoulder to see what occurred. After coming to a complete stop the engine cut out. I was able to restart the vehicle and drove approximately 10 minutes before it occurred again on the surface streets. At that point the ignition did not catch and it sounded very much like the engine was not able to turn on at all. The check engine light turned on at this point. I called AAA for tow services shortly thereafter, and the vehicle was dropped off at the dealership. I have not received any followup from the dearlership yet.

UNKNOWN exact component, but it is a critical failure within the electrical/charging system or the 48V eTorque system. The dealership previously suspected the eTorque system and replaced the belt tensioner, but the failure continues. The vehicle is currently available for inspection and has been sitting at an authorized Ram dealership for the last three weeks. The vehicle suffers a complete and sudden loss of motive power while driving. When it stalls, the truck automatically engages "auto park" and applies the parking brake. This has happened repeatedly while pulling into active traffic and while passing through busy intersections (most recently in downtown Chicago). This sudden, uncontrollable stop in the middle of an intersection creates an extreme and immediate risk of a severe rear-end or T-bone collision for myself, my passengers, and surrounding motorists. Yes, the dealership was able to successfully replicate the stall while their technicians were driving it. But I don't think they had any type of computer hooked up to it. However, the attempt at repair during the second service visit involved replacing the eTorque belt tensioner based on my description of the failure, acknowledging that a slip could cause the issue. They have not been able to replicate during this last visit. Despite putting over 400 test miles on the truck during the current (third) visit, they cannot get the intermittent failure to occur while hooked up to their diagnostic equipment. Yes, the vehicle has been inspected multiple times by an authorized Ram dealership. It has been in their possession for over six weeks in total across three separate service visits.

symptoms: 1. P0A7D hybrid battery failure. 2. Heat from the eTorque motor after 1min run time. 3. Unstable voltage. 4. 12‑volt drain (replaced battery last year June 2025) 5. Risk of sudden loss of assist. 6. Auto‑park behavior. 7. Unpredictable drivability. I don't feel this is safe when I stop at a stop sign the truck applied auto-park and I could not move, had to press the auto-stop to get it out of the park brake and back in drive. So, I was only two blocks from home so went ahead and went back home, and it was running bad went I pulled up in my driveway. I have had the truck in to dealer for this code P0A7D and more codes last year in June and all they did was reset the check engine light and sent me on my way that was 731 miles ago. Now going back to dealer on 01/22/2026 to see if they will fix it this time. I feel with a hybrid battery failure is a risk with Fire and if the auto-park kicks in when driving on the highway could be very bad! I did know this truck had a auto-park?

My 2022 Ram 1500 is experiencing a "lurching" or "bumping" forward and backwards when moving from park to drive or reverse. The issue is most apparent after coming to a stop and releasing the brake to accelerate. You can feel a "Bump" sensation as the drivetain re-engages. Have taken to dealer and been told this is "normal operation" but I refuse to accept it. Have been researching this a lot lately and have found many instances of other trucks experiencing the same issue with no fix. Links to examples of others in the same situation below. [XXX] [XXX] The problem lies in the binding of drive shaft slip yoke. Either in the 2 piece driveshaft splines OR at the transfer case. Many are temporarily remedying the issue by applying grease to the splines and this prevents the binding for a temporary amount of time. I was trying to park my vehicle in my garage, where I need to get within 1-2" from the wall for the garage door to close. When I try to release the brake to creep towards the wall, the truck lurches as the binding releases and bumps into the wall. No damage/injury occured but if Ram doesn't address this with a repair or some sort of remedy, someone may be injured. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the cause of the failure was not duplicated. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with turbocharger failure. The contact was informed that the turbocharger needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and unintendedly decelerated to 15 MPH. The vehicle was driven to the shoulder of the road. The contact stated that the failure almost caused a head-on crash. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. In addition, the vehicle jerked forward at full speed, and the tires were spinning. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failed exhaust climate control. The contact was informed that the exhaust climate control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The manufacturer requested that the engineers inspect and investigate the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle had been at the dealer for 12 weeks, and no additional information was provided by the dealer or the manufacturer. The contact was not made aware of the results of the investigation or whether the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The contact requested a buyback. I am in need of assistance with my most recent purchase of a 2025 Ram Truck with less than 3000 miles of utilization. After driving the vehicle for 45 minutes something didn’t seem right with the transmission. A multitude of error messages popped up on the cluster and the truck ended up in “limp mode” meaning it would not move. The Engine light comes on intermittently and I have legitimate concerns about the reliability and drive-ability of the brand new vehicle. When operating the vehicle in Round-abouts the vehicle looses the ability to accelerate and seems to lose propulsion which is a valid safety concern as well. The vehicle was returned to the Dealer for service and they have not addressed the issue only stating Chrysler Engineering has not yet determined corrective actions.

My 2022 Ram 1500 TRX has recurring safety-related failures of the infotainment system affecting both Uconnect 5 (12” screen) and earlier Uconnect 4 units. These issues are widespread in 2021–2024 Ram TRX and Ram 1500 models and began or worsened after forced over-the-air updates. The primary defect is black-screen failures while driving. When the screen goes black or freezes, the truck loses all functions controlled through the display, including HVAC/defrost, backup camera, vehicle settings, seat controls, and performance gauges. This creates an immediate safety hazard: I cannot adjust climate/defrost, cannot see the required rear-view camera when shifting to reverse, and cannot access key vehicle information. Owners across multiple years consistently report: • Black screens, freezes, and reboots • Loss of HVAC control and dual-zone functions • Backup camera not displaying • Vehicle/Apps tabs failing to open • Uconnect error messages • Smaller, harder-to-read gauges after updates • Wireless CarPlay/Android Auto failures • No option to decline or roll back OTA updates These failures distract the driver, remove access to federally required equipment (rear camera), and eliminate visibility and climate controls that directly affect safe operation. The system becomes unpredictable and unstable despite the vehicle being in motion. My vehicle experiences the same issues, including black screen while driving, loss of HVAC, camera not available, system rebooting, etc. Because this affects essential safety-related controls and visibility, I believe this is a safety defect in Ram/Stellantis Uconnect 4 and Uconnect 5 systems. I request NHTSA open a defect investigation and require Ram to correct these failures.

RAM does over the air software updates. An update they did early summer 2025 was likely for the RAM RHO and not the TRX. A lot of features changed to RHO graphics and the U Connect 5 system became unstable and would not load properly. While in this state, the ability to select vehicle functions was not possible. (Radio, suspension selections and modes, air conditioning etc.) Attempting a reset proves unsuccessful and the only way to get the system to reset is to turn the vehicle off for a period of time or disconnect the battery for a time. This makes the system work for a while until it decides to be unstable and not load properly again. It does this at inopportune times and is very annoying, and I feel makes the vehicle unsafe. The sad thing is the vehicle was working nicely before this OTA update and RAM seems extremely slow to acknowledge the issue. Almost all of the graphics now show RHO instead of TRX and one wonders what this has done to the performance of the vehicle since they have different power trains.

Complaint Summary My 2022 Ram 1500 has a recurring safety issue where the engine shuts off unexpectedly after coming to a complete stop and then attempting to accelerate. This typically occurs at stop signs. When it happens, the dashboard flashes warnings, the emergency brake sometimes engages, and the truck prompts me to “apply brake and push start button.” I’ve nearly been rear-ended due to the sudden loss of power. Safety Concerns This issue poses a serious safety risk. The truck stalls in traffic, leaving me vulnerable to collisions. The unpredictability of the failure makes it difficult to drive with confidence, especially when transporting my family. Request for Action I urge NHTSA to investigate this issue further and work with Stellantis (Ram’s parent company) to identify the root cause and issue a recall or software fix. Owners deserve a safe and reliable vehicle, and this defect undermines that trust.

While driving my vehicle broke down in the middle of the road and locked up the engine because of the etorque generator. I was blocking traffic and had to be assisted by police and then towed. This is the second time this component has failed in 14 months. Both times leaving me stranded. I am now being told it could be weeks or months before the dealer can get my part. The etorque also caused the starter to lock up and it also now must be replaced. The vehicle broke down right after I got off the interstate 2 minutes earlier and I would of been on I-20 with vehicles traveling 70 mph. Someone is going to get hurt or killed because of this part.
