2017 RAM 2500 Electrical Problems

truck is experiencing the active recall symptoms daily, but the manufacturer is denying a repair due to parts availability. I pull a trailer everyday and I been having break issues the ABS light goes on and off all day, driving on the freeway, streets and even when the truck is on park noise is annoying. Service electronic braking systems is on as well I been almost had accidents and loosing control with my trailer that I don’t feel safe anymore for me and my passengers.

At 31,000 mile my horn is no longer working along with my steering wheel controls on the left side of the wheel. Upon researching online it seems these truck have a common issue with clock spring fail. This is concerning because not only does the clock spring provide power to the horn and steering wheel controls, it could also effect the airbag function.

ABS System Module/System Brake Failure Unsafe and Can not drive anymore The problem was produced December 5, 2024 and they have refused to fix the recall. The problem has been inspected by several local dealerships as well as team Dodge ram and Chrysler Corporation There is warning lights that actually accelerate and go off every 60 seconds as you’re driving. This has been going on for years and it was like this four days to five days after we drove off the car lot and we paid $40,000 for this truck..

C4B 2017 Ram D2 DD DF DJ DP Hydraulic C / Not Available We are at Risk everyday Yes Confirmed Recall and Problem Yes inspected by Ram Dealer & CarMax The warning lights and the noise constantly goes off and they’ve been happening since a few days after we purchased the vehicle and the dealership that we purchased, the vehicle knew about the problem and never fixed it until this recall which they’re still not fixing for us. I am going to file a lemon lawsuit. Unless they solve this issue. $40,000 Vehicles should not have these issues. The brakes are locking up and almost crashed several times . The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to activate the cruise control, the system initially failed to engage. After several attempts, the contact was able to activate the cruise control; however, while attempting to deactivate cruise control, the system failed to disengage. After several attempts the cruise control disengaged. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V332000 (Electrical System, Speed Control); but the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 178,000.

Odometer Fraud. The contact attempted to purchase a 2017 RAM 2500. It was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 116,493, and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 113,000.

Continuous warnings and tones showing issues for anti lock brakes and stability traction control. In less than 3 months will be a year since the recall was announced and there is no remedy. This is a nuisance and safety issue and should absolutely be a priority to fix. NHTSA #24V-896

This is my 2nd NHTSA complaint regarding this issue on my 2017 Ram 2500. Initial online complaint was done on 4/30/2022 regarding the trucks annoying and unsafe warning light indicating “Service Electronic Braking System” and amber ABS warning light. These warnings began on my truck in 2021 when it only had 12,000 miles. These intermittent warning lights and audible “dinging” still persist today at 22,000 miles. On 2/8/2025, I received notification of Recall #C4B (finally) as a result of the class action lawsuit and was pleased to see this development. To date, I, like many Ram owners are still awaiting parts to become available to have them replaced per the recall and am requesting that the NHTSA step in to assist as we all have essentially unsafe trucks on US highways. I believe this should be a priority, given the fact that owners of 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks often own them to tow trailers (like myself) which leads to additional unsafe conditions on the road. It’s unacceptable to allow FCA US LLC to continue to delay addressing this recall.

The check engine light came on and I took the vehicle to the Ram service center. The tech said the turbo actuator caused the light to go on. He reset the computer and said to bring the vehicle back if it comes on again. About 1 month later it reappeared. The Ram service said the turbo charger actuator needed replacing (the complete turbocharger). They said the failure could result in a total loss of power or engine failure. I tow a 10,000 lb trailer and an engine failure on the road could result in an accident or injury due to no power from the engine. The part can be viewed for inspection.

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at highway speeds, the check engine, traction, and ABS warning lights illuminated. Once the warning lights had appeared, the speedometer, odometer, and cruise control functions failed to operate as needed. The contact also stated that the transmission failed to shift out park(P). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where a code reader determined that the failure was linked to the ABS control module. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue, and the contact was provided the same information as the dealer. The failure mileage was 153,777. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Grid Heater bolt failure. Grid heater bolt is secured by a nut below intake area. The nut on bolt melts and causes pieces and shards into cylinder #6 if not fixed immediately. This is a terrible design and expensive fix. I am 3rd person to have this problem recently amongst my friends. Metal in side motors should not be melting and or rotting into cylinders. Please see attached pictures showing melted bolt and shards in the intake area. If this is a part that needs maintenance it should be listed in the scheduled maintenance somewhere

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the speedometer dropped to zero, and the ABS, traction control, and parking brake warning lights illuminated. Additionally, the doors failed to lock, and the brake lights remained illuminated after the vehicle was turned off. The contact needed to manually lock and unlock the doors using the fob key. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the ABS, hydraulic control unit and hydraulic motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

Issue a recall here! Many others are reporting this identical issue and a class action suit has been filed! ABS sensor light and chime comes on at random times. My truck just reached 100,000 miles. I've performed no troubleshooting but it is extremely intermittent, either the Service the Automatic or Service the Electronic Braking System(s). Usually, a bump in the road makes it come and another turns it off. Sometimes it happens so quickly, only the message and traction control disabled light comes on, sometimes only the chime comes in. Sometimes the message stays up and the brake warning and traction control light comes on, sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes a couple of seconds. To compound the problem, there appears to be an issue in sourcing replacement parts resulting in a delay in repair. A delay in repair could result in a additional damage to the vehicle, not using the vehicle (not an option) or ultimately an accident. Also can’t use cruise control when it’s displaying.

The illumination of the ABS light and traction control light. The light actives intermittently. The reported problem from a vehicle code reader is “ ABS pump motor control general electrical failure”. With the lights illuminated, I am no longer able to use cruise control. Prior to the warning lights I noticed I was having to depress my brake pedal harder than normally at random times. No signs of brake fluid loss or leaks. The brake pads are in good working condition. I have not taken it to a dealer as I have read the replacement parts are on back order and there are multiple lawsuits pertaining to this issue as well.

Truck has had two ABS units replaced under warranty for the code C0020-01. Now a year after the last replacement the code has come back and needs the ABS unit replaced again. FCA knows there is an issue with these and continue to sell and install parts that they know will fail. This will cause the loss of ABS braking, traction control and trailer braking. Someone need to force FCA to provide a "correct" repair and ungraded parts for this error.
