The defect: ON CERTAIN EXPANDABLE TRAVEL TRAILERS, THE REAR BED IS LARGE ENOUGH THAT EXCESS WEIGHT MAY BE PLACED ON THE BED, EXCEEDING THE SUPPORT CAPACITY OF THE BRACKETS.
The risk: THE BED COULD FALL ON SOMEONE CAUSING PERSONAL INJURY.
The remedy: STARCRAFT WILL NOTIFY ITS CUSTOMERS AND STRENGHTEN THE BED BRACKETS FREE OF CHARGE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN SEPTEMBER 9, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT STARCRAFT AT

IN 2005 HAD CARLISLE ST225/R75 15, RADIAL TRAIL LOAD RANGE D ON A 9600 POUND (LOADED) BUMPER PULL, TRAVEL TRAILER. BLEW 2 TIRES WITH $1000 DAMAGE TO TRAILER. SHORT TIME LATER, A THIRD TIRE HAD TREAD SEPARATION. SOLUTION: SWITCHED TO 10 PLY, LOAD RANGE E IN MARCH OF 2006, RESULTS 2 TIRES WITH TREAD SEPARATION AT ABOUT 6000 MILES, A 3RD TIRE WITH TREAD SEPARATION AT 6400 MILES, AND THE NEW REPLACEMENT SPARE WITH TREAD SEPARATION AT ABOUT 400 MILES. 4 OUT OF 6 WITHIN 6800 MILES, 6 MONTHS. THE TRAILER MAKE IS A SKYLINE, LAYTON RAMPAGE, 26' TRAVEL TRAILER. THIS MAKE AND MODEL IS NOT AN OPTION ON THE PULL DOWN MENUS. DISREGARD REFERENCES TO STARCRAFT. *NM

I PURCHASED MY TRAILER IN OCTOBER OF '05 AS A NEW TRAILER WITH NEW CARLISLE SURE TRAIL TIRES SIZE ST175/80-13. I WAS MADE AWARE THAT THESE PARTICULAR TIRES WERE PRONE TO TREAD FAILURE AND BLOWOUT SO I ALWAYS CHECK THE PRESSURE BEFORE EVERY TRIP. ON THE WAY HOME FROM A CAMPING TRIP I STOPPED AT A REST AREA AND CHECKED THE TIRES AGAIN. I FELT EACH ONE FOR HEAT AND ANY ABNORMALITIES IN THE TREAD. ALL 4 LOOKED GOOD AND WERE ONLY WARM TO THE TOUCH. IT WAS 85 DEGREES OUTSIDE. 25 MILES LATER ONE BLEW, THROWING RUBBER ALL OVER WHICH CAUSED A MALFUNCTION IN THE TRAILER BRAKE SYSTEM. I WAS TRAVELING RIGHT AT 60 MPH AND THE TRAILERS WEIGHT WAS 20% UNDER THE WEIGHT RATINGS POSTED ON THE SIDEWALLS. I AM THE ONLY OWNER, THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN UNDER INFLATED AND NEVER OVER LOADED AND THEY HAVE LESS THAN 5000 MILES ON THEM. THE TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. *JB
