The defect: ON CERTAIN FIFTH WHEEL TRAILERS, UNDER EXTREME OR REPEATED EXTREME SIDE-LOADING OF THE AXLES, BENDING OF THE SPRING HANGERS MAY OCCUR.
The risk: SEVERE BENDING OF THE AXLE HANGERS, POSSIBILITY LOSS OF TRAILER CONTROL WHILE TOWING, AND THE POSSIBILITY OF A VEHICLE CRASH COULD OCCUR.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPAIR WITH THE REQUIRED PARTS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 10, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT THOR AT 888-697-8467.

I HAVE HAD 3 CARLISLE TIRE FAILURES ON MY 2004 TAHOE TRANSPORT BY THOR TRAVEL TRAILER. THE VIN IS [XXX]. THE FIRST FAILURE CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE TIRE & TRAILER IN 2005 (MARKED UP SIDE OF CAMPER, DESTROYED TIRE, DAMAGED/BENT FRAME, TORE UP UNDERBODY SEALING MATERIAL) TRAVELING SOUTH OF I-25 SOUTH OF COLORADO SPRINGS, CO ON OUR WAY HOME TO [XXX]. SINCE THEN, I HAVE FOUND 2 OTHER TIRES FAIL BY HAVING A BELT BREAK IN THE TREAD CAUSING A LARGE "BUBBLE". LUCKILY, I HAVE FOUND THESE FAILED TIRES PRIOR TO ANY BLOWOUT OR ACCIDENT. I NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER OF ALL 3 FAILURES & ASKED FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE ON THE LAST 2 FAILURES. I SENT THEM THE TIRES PER THEIR REQUEST BUT AFTER THEIR INSPECTION THEY HAVE DENIED ANY OUT OF WARRANTY GOODWILL DUE TO "OUT OF WARRANTY" & "TIRE SHOWS SIGNS OF BEING UNDERINFLATED AND OVER LOADED" ON ONE TIRE & THE OTHER "OUT OF WARRANTY" & "TIRE SHOWS SIGNS OF BEING UNDERINFLATED OR MISALIGNMENT". I AGREE THAT THEY ARE OUT OF WARRANTY & NEW THAT WHEN I CALLED THEM. I DO NOT AGREE WITH THEM STATING THAT THE TIRES WERE EITHER UNDERINFLATED, OVERLOADED OR OUT OF ALIGNMENT. THE TIRES WERE USED AT THE RECOMMENDED PRESSURE ON THE SIDEWALL AND WELL BELOW THE TOTAL VEHICLE GVW AS PROVIDED BY THE TRAILER MANUFACTURER. FURTHERMORE, THERE ARE NOT ADJUSTMENTS THAT CAN BE MADE FOR ALIGNMENTS ON A TRAVEL TRAILER (CASTER, CAMBER, NOR TOE). I AM NOT MAKING THIS COMPLAINT SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY DENIED ANY COST ASSISTANCE - I HAD ALREADY PURCHASED 2 NEW TIRES WHEN I CONTACTED THEM. I WILL BE PURCHASING A 3RD NEW ONE THIS WEEK. I AM MAKING THIS SIMPLY BECAUSE I HAVE HAD 3 OUT OF 4 TIRES FAIL IN SIMILAR MANNERS ON A TRAILER WITH LESS THAN 7,500 MILES ON THE FACTORY EQUIPPED TIRES. I ALSO HAVE CHECKED THE TIRE PRESSURES & ADJUSTED TO THE MAXIMUM (FOR A LOADED TOYHAULER TRAVEL TRAILER) BEFORE EACH TRIP. I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE SPOTTED 2 OF THE 3 FAILURES PRIOR TO ANY ACCIDENT OR DAMAGE. CARLISLE RMA #S [XXX]. *NM UPDATED 07/12/2012 *JS

2004 THOR TAHOE RECALL NOTICE REGARDING A PROBLEM WITH THE DEXTER AXLE. *MR THE CONSUMER CALLED THE DEXTER AXLE COMPANY AND GAVE THEM THE SERIAL NUMBER. DEXTER AXLE COMPANY COMFIRMED THAT THE DUAL AXLE OF THIS RV WAS RATED 6000 LBS. PER AXLE. THE CONSUMER THEN CALLED CARLISLE TIRE COMPANY WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE LT235/85R16, LOAD RANGE E TIRE HAVE A MAX LOAD PER TIRE OF 3042. THE CONSUMER RECENTLY HAD TWO BLOWOUTS OF THESE TIRES WITH LESS THAN 3000 MILES ON THEM. THE CONSUMER FEELS THAT THIS RV HAS SOME DESIGN FLAWS AND IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON THE ROAD (THOR CALIFORNIA RECALL CAMPAIGN NO. 150030). *NM
