What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2007 Toyota Camry, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
When I purchased this vehicle there were no problems, no lights on my dash, the trim all matched and was the color blue. Then after having a falling out with some family members I started noticing problems with my HVAC system. It started with antifreeze leaks then id fix it and the next week the radiator hose would be leaking again. I started really keeping track of everything about my car after that. Next I started noticing parts changed and parts missing. My VSC fuse block in the engine bay is completely missing now. Next I started noticing while driving my seat would move without me doing anything. The family member that I had a falling out with is in the HVAC union also. While driving I hear some type of switch click on and a gas smell starting coming out of my vents. Also I noticed after getting an aliment done that someone had adjusted the aliment bolts over night it's very noticable. You can clearly see where someone ran new electric wires for something. I went to the police 3 the mea about the issue but no investigation. Please help.
ALL OF A SUDDEN, ALL OF MY WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON INCLUDING: BRAKE LIGHT, CHECK VCS SYSTEM, ABS, ALL OF THE EXCLAMATION LIGHTS, ETC.. IVE BEEN VERY DILIGENT ABOUT THE MAINTENACE ON Y VEHICLE AND HAD THE CODES READ AND RESET, BUT THEY KEEP COMING BACK ON. THE MAJOR ISSUES ARE THE ABS, CATALYTIC CONVERTER EROR CODE & THE ABS MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO BREAK. IVE HAD IT LOOKED AT AND THE MECHANICS ARE SAYING THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. ALSO, THE MIRROR VISOR ON DRIVER SIDE STOPPED WORKING & CONSTANTLY FALLS DOWN BLOCKING MY VIEW. ITS VERY DANGEROUS! PLEASE ADVISE TOYOTA OF THESE ISSUES. IVE ALREADY HAD THE HYBRID BATTERY COMPLETELY REPLACED AND BREAKS & ROUTERS, BUT THE CODES SHOWING ARE: •P0420 and •P1423, •C1391, - Ask about a recall •B1241, •B2784, •B2281, •C2124 THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
See attached document for complaint.
Because of the sticky dash’s glare on the driver side windshield, I could not see the car ahead of me at all. I almost hit a car that was in front of me not because he had braked because we were both still in motion but the glare was directly in my line of vision. I just happened to put my hand up over the glare and saw there was actually a silver car in front of me and I was way to close to it. No accident occurred but it almost did and certainly could have injured me and/or my passengers. This has to be fixed! That scared me to death! I truly had no idea there was a car in front of me as I could NOT see it from the dash’s glare off the windshield.
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
My 2007 Toyota Camry was manufactured with faulty piston rings that Toyota acknowledges that causes the engine to burn oil. I need to put 1/4 of quart of oil per week to avoid the engine from burning and up risking it from catching on fire. Toyota offered to fix this issue from 2008-2010, but I was not notified nor was I aware of this issue. It wasn't until 2020 when my car got about 70k miles that I started to notice the oil burning. It now has 92k miles and the issue has worsened and Toyota will not fix their defect.
Vehicle runs low of engine oil quickly. I've gotten oil changes by dealer and always explain i have to purchase oil every 3 weeks to top off. Was told its a leak but I never see oil on the ground where I park. Its been like this since I've purchased the vehicle. The headlights are not bright no matter if i change the bulb or the actual headlight
Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
1)BODY- The body of the vehicle (paint) seems to be chipping and/or rusting at an increasingly rapid rate with no known causes. This rusting is causing the value of the car to plummet as I am trying to sell the vehicle. It first appeared in about 2019 and has been getting steadily worse without any way to stop it. 2) SUSPENSION- On every single Toyota I’ve owned (4) the struts wore very quickly and are NOT a cheap fix. I had to at one point, fix them more than once in the same vehicle. I was told by the repair tech that it is a common issue seen in Toyotas. If a strut goes while driving it can cause major safety issues for the driver. 3)WHEELS- The hubcaps more specifically speaking, on every Toyota I’ve owned, have also had an issue maintaining its hubcaps. One rolled off on the highway and nearly caused me to crash as it hit the side of my car and slid under the rear tires and made me slide all over the snowy highway. Luckily there weren’t many vehicles on the road or it could’ve been catastrophic. I also notice that the light for the tire pressure never turns off either. I can fill the tires, empty the tires, it does not matter, the light will never go off.

Contacted TMC and was told a recall WAS performed on my car in 2010 for excessive acceleration. However, after further investigation, I learned there was not ONE but TWO different recalls for SIMILAR circumstances(acceleration) and was not informed whether BOTH were completed. I have had vehicle for approx. 5 years and have intermittently experienced the SAME problem. The last few weeks, it has happened more frequently and is becoming dangerous to drive! Also, I was told, since the ONE recall was completed, TMC declined to address the recent problem. Is there a possibility the FIRST recall was not COMPLETELY SUFFICIENT for both. I hope I can get an answer, as I have run out of options. I don't believe I should have to PAY for something that was supposedly FIXED even 10 years ago! I would, again appreciate any help. Thank you.
Electrical

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE BEFORE JERKING INTO THE NEXT GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THEY COULD NOT PERFORM ANY REPAIRS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS INTENDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,087.
MY WIFE HAD BACKED HER 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY OUT OF OUR GARAGE ONTO THE DRIVEWAY TO WASH THE CAR. THE DRIVEWAY IS ON A MEDIUM INCLINE. SHE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF CLEANING THE INSIDE OF THE CAR ALONG WITH OUR GRANDDAUGHTER. THE CAR WAS IN PARK AND THE IGNITION KEY IN HER POCKET. AFTER CLEANING THE INSIDE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WITH OUR GRANDDAUGHTER IN THE DRIVER SIDE SHE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF WALKING AROUND THE FRONT OF THE CAR IN ORDER TO CLEAN THE DRIVER COMPARTMENT WHEN OUR GRANDDAUGHTER WAS MOVING TO THE PASSENGER SIDE SHE HIT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTER IT CAME OUT OF PARK AND ROLLED ACROSS THE ALLY INTO THE NEIGHBORS BACK FENCE. MY WIFE GOT INTO THE CAR AND DROVE TO THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE PUT THE CAR IN PARK, REMOVED THE KEY AND WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE CAR OUT OF PARK WITHOUT HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE KEY REMOVED. WE TOOK THE CAR TO TOYOTA DEALER. THE NEXT DAY WE PICKED THE CAR UP FROM THE DEALER AND WERE TOLD THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD US TO TAKE THE CAR AND IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN LEAVE THE CAR AS IS WITH THE CAR OUT OF GEAR, CALL THEM AND THEY WOULD SEND A TOW TRUCK. THE NEXT DAY MY WIFE DROVE THE CAR TO THE SHOPPING MALL. WHEN SHE RETURNED THE CAR SHE WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE CAR OUT OF PARK WITH THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. SHE WAS UNABLE TO GET THE SERVICE REP ON THE PHONE SO SHE DROVE HOME AND PARKED THE CAR IN THE GARAGE. APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES LATER WE ALL WENT OUT TO THE CAR AND HAD HER SON TRY TO TAKE THE CAR OUT OF PARK WITHOUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION WHICH HE DID. THERE WAS NO RESISTANCE IN THE SHIFTER WHEN REMOVING FROM PARK AND COULD FREELY MOVE THE SHIFTER. WE LEFT THE SHIFTER IN THE DRIVE POSITION AND CALLED THE DEALER WHO SENT A TOW TRUCK AND HAD THE DRIVE VERIFY THE CAR COULD BE SHIFTED WITH THE KEY OUT. THE REP CALLED AND SAID THE COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO TELL THEM ALL THE HAVE TO DO IS DRIVE THE CAR FOR 15 MIN, WAIT 15 MIN THEN MOVE OUT OF PARK. THE REP IS NOT COOPERATING. *TR

The front dash assembly is melted over time and is so bad I cannot see out the front windshield. I told the dealership that I believe this was a recall and they said it was but that the specific job for that expired ? I didn’t know recalls expired. They are willing to fix the current situation with the current system failure of the over heating window switches but a major problem is the visibility up front. I have to wear sun glasses just to see through that horrible glare from the melted dashboard. Also not sure if their is any suspension issues with my 2007 Toyota Camry. The steering wheel shakes some and I’ve purchased new tires wheels and some rotation balance and alignment and no additional work or parts where needed to fix that problem. The alignment did reduce some steering wheel shaking but it’s getting worse again. Any help would be appreciated and if we could get the Dealership to fix the front dashboard that would be phenomenal. Thank you.
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
My brake pedal when depressed, when stopped, makes a loud noise. My car cycles a buzzing sound often, even when the brakes are not depressed. My warning lights : check VSC system, ABS , warning triangle, a circle with and exclamation point and brake, all are continuing to light up on my dash. I took it to the dealer. Code C1391 (ABS ACRTUATOR INTERNAL FAILURE). This is serious and can cause my brakes and steering control to fail. The manufacturer warranty has expired.
CAR HAD VSC SYSTEM REPLACED DUE TO RECALL A FEW YEARS AGO. HAVING ISSUES AGAIN WITH VSC SYSTEM LIGHT COMING ON, ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS.
Fuel system

Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
Had the vehicle progressively speed up at a high rate of speed was not due to the floor mats as that had been fixed along time ago on a recall before . I had to throw the car in neutral and then push the brake and power button for the vehicle to slow down safely ( happened twice ) . Both times not back to back on occasions months in between . Then one day had issues with the brakes and the vehicle not wanting to stop had the issue looked at by certified mechanic said my physical brakes on all sides front and back were visible sound and nothing to be causing the issue I was having . Just the other day started the vehicle as normal it warmed up went thru my day and then my radio still visible but sayin INSERT MAPS DVD ( that’s the only thing it would say or do ) then the vehicle after turning it off says CHECK VSC SYSTEM ( had certified mechanic ) come to home to inspect vehicle for issues ( car no longer showed this on dash) started as normal then next day while driving no brakes red triangle of death came up said CHECK VSC again and brakes failed and I nearly rear ended someone thank god avoided the accident car then shut off ( car restarted then triangle once more immediately shut off ) car starts high idle brakes hard to push on Mechanic says it’s a faulty issue with harness or abs pump and ECM components which may be causing the battery failure I’ve had multiple times and that the vehicle isn’t safe to drive due to this issue .
CAR CONTINUES TO SLIP AND REV UP DURING MANY UP-SHIFTS OR WHEN SLOWING DOWN. AFTER SOME TIME THAT IT HAS WARM ENOUGH IT WILL STOP DOING IT, BUT IT ALWAYS SLIPS AND REVS UP BETWEEN THIRD AND FOURTH SHIFT. ITS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR FEW YEARS NOW, BUT NO ONE HAD SHOWED UP WITH A RIGHT SOLUTION.

The vehicle inadvertently swerved, and the contact felt as if the vehicle was going to flip over. Upon inspection, the contact related the failure to the design of the tires. The contact stated that the tires had no ribs, borders, or lateral grooves; the tires only had a V-shaped design along the tread. The tire store was made aware of the failure; however, the tires were not replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The tire failure mileage was approximately 25. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 224,000.

I was driving my car when suddenly the speedometer started going from 0-60 back and forth, the rpms was all over the place, the brake light came on and stayed on and the lights was going from bright to dim, there was a couple more lights aluminized on my dash. After googling the problem that nearly caused me and my children to crash, there is so many people affected by this same problem in the 2007 toyota camry. Why hasn't this been recalled or class auctioned. Also my dash board is sticky like tar.
Interior & seats
Reports naming seats, latches, locks, linkages and interior fittings.
From owner reports, verbatim
My 2007 Toyota Camry has a severely melted and sticky dashboard, a known manufacturing defect (Program ZE6). The surface has become highly reflective, creating a blinding sun glare on the windshield that significantly obstructs my visibility while driving, posing an immediate safety hazard. Additionally, the melting material releases pungent chemical fumes (VOCs) in the cabin, causing respiratory discomfort and health concerns. Despite being a documented safety defect, Toyota refused a goodwill repair because the initial warranty program has expired. A safety defect that impairs driver vision should not have an expiration date.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact had received notification of the Toyota Warranty Enhancement Program – ZE6. The contact stated that gradually over time the dashboard had started peeling and cracking. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was advised to be patient for the parts to become available. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
