Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.
0
Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

Jul 20, 2026
5,096 units potentially affected
The defect: Blue Bird Bus Company (Blue Bird) is recalling certain 2022-2027 Vision school buses. The exhaust hanger cotter pin may contact the hydraulic brake line, damaging the line and causing a brake fluid leak.
The risk: A brake fluid leak in the presence of an ignition source such as hot engine or exhaust components can increase the risk of a fire. Additionally, a brake fluid leak can extend the distance required to stop, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Dealers will replace the exhaust hanger cotter pin. Dealers will also inspect and replace the brake lines as necessary. All repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 18, 2026. Owners may contact Blue Bird customer service at 1-478-822-2242.

SERVICE BRAKES

The mechanical brake switch & bracket design has a potential for cumulative at-limit stack up clearances to exceed the limitations of the mechanical switch. As a result, a preventative maintenance adjustment procedure is necessary and, at times, settings can be difficult to achieve.

Suspect Population: Certain 2021 through 2026 Blue Bird BBCV buses, equipped with a 217” WB flat floor & Ford 7.3L powered engine. Condition:Chassis web fractures in or around the vicinity of the LF shock mount Root Cause Identification and Justification: • FEA modeling shows elevated regions of stress in proximity of the upper fastener hole for the LH shock mount resulting from several external influences. The highest stress stemming from shock extension forces in curb hop scenarios. • Bearing in mind the absence of this failure mode on standard floor chassis designs with substantially higher usage, the projected stress in this region of 4582 PSI is used as an objective bench mark of the acceptable upper limit. • Two corrective solutions are being executed as pragmatic countermeasures to correct this failure mode, based on the severity and frequency of the crack, if present. Repair plate 1 being the latest evolution. FEA analysis & ref chart below • Installation of this repair plate decreases the stress in this region to less than the standard floor chassis baseline allowing us to predict this solution to last the expected life of the chassis.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
