1992 Chevrolet Blazer Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1992 Chevrolet Blazer, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Reports by component

Ranked by how many owner reports name each component category

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

02/01/2022 Windshield wiper fails to function unless the circuit board is replaced. GM refused to replace the board for 1992 vehicles even though that same board was recalled for 1994 and later vehicles. Simply said it was not part part of the recall so I had to buy a replacement myself. Was GM recall #98043 expanded to cover 1992 & 1993 year vehicles as well? ABS breaking ( or lack there of) is another matter. Upon entering my Blazer's VIN number into the NHTSA recall system, it revealed six recalls had been issued for 1992 Blazers. Unfortunately my VIN was not recognized other than that it was in fact a 1992 Blazer of some sort. Chevrolet simply said 1992 Chevrolet VIN numbers were not in their records. When GM/ Chevrolet fails to supply the data for my vehicle, does it have an obligation to inspect my vehicle to determine if it in fact has a problem that should have been resolved? Or has already been resolved? Or wasn't even a recalled vehicle at all? I would appreciate a reply to these questions and/or a reference to a site, providing this kind of information. Campaign Bulletins stated Dealers should confirm vehicle eligibility through GMVIS or DCS Screen 445 before beginning campaign repairs. How is this information accessed today? Really appreciate the ongoing effort to minimize avoidable accidents! .

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1992 CHEVROLET BLAZER. THE CONTACT HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING BRAKE FAILURE WITH THE VEHICLE. WHENEVER THE VEHICLE COMES TO A STOP, SHE MUST EXERT MAXIMUM PRESSURE TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO A DEALER. THROUGH ONLINE RESEARCH, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 93V119000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC:ROTOR). THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. SHE BELIEVES THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL SINCE THE FAILURES ARE IDENTICAL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000.

THE MAIN ABS CONTROL VALVE/MODULE HAS FAILED ON THIS VEHICLE TWICE. THE FIRST TIME WAS UNDER WARRANTY WHEN IT ACTUALLY FAILED TWICE IN ONE INCIDENT. ONCE ON THE HIGHWAY, AND AGAIN WHEN I WAS DRIVING IT HOME FROM THE DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THE FIRST FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER HARD BRAKING WHILE ON THE FREEWAY, THE SECOND OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING WITH NO BRAKING INVOLVED. THE IDLER ARM PROBLEM IS RECENT, WITH TWO FAILURES OCCURRING WITHIN 14 MONTHS. THERE IS NO MAJOR FAILURE HERE, THE COMPONENT JUST WEARS OUT ABNORMALLY FAST. THIS WAS REPLACED WHILE UNDER WARRANTY ALSO, BUT I DO NOT HAVE THE PAPERWORK TO BACK IT UP. *AK
