Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

ABS LIGHT ON STABILITRAK LIGHT ON. REAR WHEEL HUBS BROKEN AND REPLACED. BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. THROTTLE BODY AND VALVE REPLACED. HAPPENED AGAIN SIX MONTHS LATER - SAME WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON ABS AND STABILITRAK. TWO WHEEL SENSORS WERE REPLACED. LIGHTS STILL ON. DID NOT FIX PROBLEM. NOW DEALER SAYS "ELECTRONIC BRAKE MODULE" IS OUT. ABS CONTROL MODULE PART NUMBER WAS LISTED AS THE FIX. THESE FIXES ARE RIGHT AT $3,000 AT THIS POINT. BRAKES RUMBLED AND FELT LIKE THEY WERE CATCHING INSTEAD OF GOING DOWN SMOOTHLY UPON PICKING UP REPAIRED VEHICLE. WENT BACK INTO THE SHOP AND THAT IS WHEN THE CONTROL PART WAS RECOMMENDED FOR AN ADDITIONAL $1,200.

WITHIN THE LAST MONTH AND A HALF, MY 2014 CHEVROLET MALIBU HAS HAD THE ABS AND STABILTRAK SERVICES LIGHTS COME ON TWICE. MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT 31,500 MILES. MID-FEBRUARY, I WAS DRIVING 25 MPH DOWN A SIDE STREET TO WORK, AND THE LIGHTS JUST POPPED ON., I TOOK MY CAR INTO A CHEVROLET DEALER TO HAVE THE LIGHTS LOOKED AT, AND WAS TOLD THE ABS SENSOR READS A STRIP ON THE WHEEL BEARING HUB AND THAT STRIP WAS CHIPPED OFF. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE HUB WHICH IS COSTLY. IT IS NOW THE BEGINNING OF APRIL, AND THE LIGHT JUST CAME BACK ON. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A MAIN STREET IN MY CITY GOING AROUND 45MPH WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME ON. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE GM NEEDS TO BE LOOKING INTO FOR A RECALL.

AS I'M DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE CAR STARTS JERKING AND STALLING AND THEN JUST SHUTS OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. IT ACTS LIKE IT'S NOT GETTING ANY GAS. I HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, OXYGEN SENSOR, AND A HOST OF OTHER PARTS AND IT'S STILL DOING THE SAME THING. I HAVE TAKING IT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP WHERE I BROUGHT IT FROM, THEY PUT IT ON THE MACHINE SAID IT WAS A PART THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED I HAD THE PART REPLACED AND IT'S STILL DOING THE SAME THING SHUTTING OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I HAVE A 3 YEAR THAT IS ALWAYS WITH ME IN THE CAR AND THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. IT HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE THE BEGINNING OF MARCH.

WHEN DRIVING CAR STARTS TO JERK. SOMETIME IT FEELS LIKE A MAJOR JOLT AND OTHER TIMES IT A SLIGHT JERKING FEELING. I'VE COMPLAINED THE 1ST YEAR I GOT THE VEHICLE AND THEN 2 YEARS LATER I ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. WHEN IT WAS IN FOR SERVICE PROBLEM WAS NOT DUPLICATED NOR ANY INDICATION OF OF ISSUES WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS CHECKED BY THE DEALERSHIP. NO WARNING LIGHT INDICATING VEHICLE ISSUE ARE PRESENT. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN. I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN THE VEHICLE AND NO ONE FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CAN TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT WHATS GOING ON. THIS REALLY NEED TO BE RESOLVED ASAP.

DRIVING UP HILLS IS MAINLY WHEN IT DOES IT , FIRST STARTING OUT FROM MY HOUSE GOING UP THE MOUNTAINS WHERE I LIVE THEN IT WARMS UP AND DON'T DO IT BUT ONCE AND AWHILE. IT'S LIKE IT TRYING TO GO INTO ANOTHER GEAR AND HITS HARD WITH A JERK . WHEN IAM TURNING THE CURVES AND SLOW DOWN THEN ACCELERATE AGAIN IS WHEN IT DOES IT. AROUND 30 TO 40 MILES AN HOUR.

AT TIMES, WHEN I HIT MY BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL STICK IN THE DOWNWARD POSITION AND IT WILL MAKE A GROANING SOUND. I HAVE TO TAKE MY FOOT AND RETURN THE BRAKE PEDAL TO IT'S ORIGINAL POSITION. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES, WITH PASSENGERS TO ASSURE ME THAT THE BRAKES WERE, IN DEED, MAKING THIS NOISE AND CAUSING THE CAR TO JERK AT TIMES. I HAVE HAD THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. VERY INTERESTED IN WHETHER THERE IS A RECALL, BECAUSE MY HUSBAND'S SILVERADO DOES THE SAME THING AND IT WAS RECALLED. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS TIMES AND IS ALWAYS IN A POSITION OF GOING DOWN HILL AND IN A CURVE. IT HAS HAPPENED ANY WHERE FROM 24 MPH TO 40 MPH. IN MY COMMENTS, I TRIED TO REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, BUT IT IS AN ESTIMATE ONLY.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
