TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1991 CHEVROLET S10 PICKUP. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH WITH A BOAT IN TOW, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO FISH TAIL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND CRASHED INTO THE RAILING. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT NOTICED A CABLE FROM THE SPARE TIRE HOIST HAD FRACTURED AND CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE BOAT AND VEHICLE WERE DAMAGED, AS WELL AS THE SPARE TIRE, RIM AND REAR AXLE OF THE TRAILER. THE TRAILER SPRINGS WELDING WAS ALSO DAMAGED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO ADVISED THAT THE SPARE TIRE HOIST WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN CONFIRMED THAT THE SPARE TIRE HOIST WIRE WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 199,000.

DILL TR-413 VALVE STEM FAILURES WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE RESULTED IN THE IRREPARABLE DAMAGE TO TWO (2) TIRES. TIRE DEALER UNAWARE OF RECALL ON VALVE STEMS, AND NOT WILLING TO EVEN CONSIDER REPLACING TIRES, EVEN USING A PRO-RATED SYSTEM. I FEEL THAT THE FAILURE OF THESE VALVE STEMS AND THE DAMAGED TIRES SHOULD BE DILL'S RESPONSIBILITY TO CORRECT. ALTHOUGH I DO NOT HAVE THE EVIDENCE TO PROVE THE FIRST TIRES' FAILURE (I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE RECALL AT THE TIME, SO I DID NOT THINK TO SAVE PARTS OR TAKE PICTURES), I HAVE ALL THE EVIDENCE NEEDED TO INDICATE THAT THE VALVE STEM'S FAILURE CAUSED THE FRONT LEFT TIRE TO LOSE AIR AT HIGHWAY SPEED. *TR

Manufacturer communications
A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECU/ECM)
Expanded Availability for Remanufacture and Return (R&R) Electronic Control Modules
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
Compare model years
Complaint and recall counts across every year of this model
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
