TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 HD. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS SEVERE CORROSION TO THE BRAKE AND FUEL LINES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. A LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE LAST WEEK I WENT TO BRAKE FOR AN EXIT ONLY TO FIND THAT I HAD NO BRAKES. IT TURNS OUT MY BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND MY BRAKE FLUID HAD BEEN DRAINING MY WHOLE TRIP DOWN THE INTERSTATE. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO MANAGE TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND PARK MY VEHICLE AND CALL AAA TO HAVE MY VEHICLE TOWED. I AM NOW FINDING OUT THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH GMC OLDER TRUCKS. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. LIVES ARE AT RISK. *TR
3 EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BROKE OFF MANIFOLD. *TR
THE BRAKE LINES ON MY 02 SILVERADO BLEW OUT WHILE MOVING OUR CAMPER TRAILER INTO OUR BACK YARD FOR STORAGE. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND I WAS WATCHING HER BACKING UP. SHE YELLED OUT TO ME THE "BRAKES FEEL FUNNY", WE WERE ALMOST DONE AND UNHOOKED THE TRAILER. I MOVED THE TRUCK TO THE STREET AND NOTICED THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND WOULD NOT STOP EASILY. I NOTICED A BIG WET SPOT UNDER THE CAB, CHECKED THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER LEVEL, EMPTY. HAD IT TOWED (AAA) TO MY MECHANIC, PAID $1,600.00 TO HAVE THE STEEL BRAKE LINES AND FLEX HOSES REPLACED. IF DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE CAMPER WHEN THIS OCCURRED, COULD HAVE BEEN A BIG ACCIDENT OR MORE. I HAVE OVER 32 YEARS OF FIRE/ EMS EXPERIENCE - THIS WAS BAD SITUATION ! I LOVE MY 02 SILVERADO, I ALSO HAVE A 1969 CAMARO SS/RS 427 BIG BLOCK I INSTALLED STAINLESS STEEL ONES, SO I AM NOT AGAINST CHEVROLETS, JUST THE CHEAP SUPPLIER ON A VITAL SAFETY PART - BRAKE LINES. APPLIED BRAKE, PEDAL TO THE FLOOR, NO BRAKES. HAD TO RUN INTO DITCH TO AVOID ACCIDENT. FOUND BRAKE LINE RUSTED THROUGH. HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE LINE. NO WARNING LIGHT. INSPECT WHOLE BRAKE LINE. ALL ARE SEVERELY RUSTED., FOUND SEEPAGE NEAR FRONT FROM BRAKE LINE. BRAKE RESERVOIR WAS OVER 1/2 EMPTY WITH NO WARNING LIGHT. *TR
STARTED TO HEAR ENGINE EXHAUST GETTING LOUD, STARTED TO LOOK FOR EXHAUST LEAK AND FOUND THAT # 8 AND #7 PISTON LEAKING AT EXHAUST MANIFOLD DUE TO BROKEN BOLTS AND THEN ENGINE ERROR CODE O2 SENSOR BANK 1 WILL NOT TURN OFF, CAN NOT GET TRUCK TO PASS INSPECTION HAVE FOUND OUT OTHERS TRUCK OWNERS HAVE SAME PROBLEM. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO1500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE ABS ENGAGED INDEPENDENTLY AND PREVENTED THE CONTACT FROM STOPPING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 145,000. UPDATED 08/19/14*LJ

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have an unusual noise and is difficult to identify, isolate or pinpoint. Technician should get record a sound clip or take a video of the noise for assessment by engineering. Technician will need to call General Motors Technical Assistance Center for further assistance.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Vehicle Wide Programming (VWP) is a new process to update software on GM Vehicles. It provides the ability via a single selection within Techline Connect to first identify which modules need updating and then proceed to updating affected modules (with some exceptions). The updating of modules is completed in parallel instead of the technician needing to update one module at a time. This allows a more streamlined approach for dealers and customers.
POWER TRAIN
GM is receiving damaged (cracked or broken) transmission cores returned to the reman facilities. The damage is being caused either in the removal process by the technician, or inadequate packaging or shipping. This bulletin advises the dealers to be more careful not to damage the transmissions during removal and to package the core properly for return.
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
