2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Seat belts Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the seat belt system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Seat belts reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I called GM and the Lady told me that there 5 recalls on this truck of which 4 were taken care of. there still remains one left undone. I purchased this truck from a private owner. the one remaining is the seat belt wire issue. A new warning has appeared on the dash, saying service trailer brake system. This a non stop warning while driving the truck. Very distracting and dangerous. I looked on you tube to see if anyone has this problem. yes there are some. One incident stated that to resolve this issue, someone needed to check the trailer receptacle plugin for corrosion, or broken wires. IF all is good there check the other four connectors under the truck on the frame. Finally if these are all good, then check the fuse box under the hood for the fuse for this braking system. The representative that I talked to from GM said to take the vehicle to a local Dealer for analysis to see where the problem is in the trailer braking system. Dealer labor rates are high. The representative stated that there is a payment assistance program available through GM if a Dealer takes care of the situation. Is this true? I need this truck every day for work. Please address this issue . Thank You, [XXX] My email [XXX] . ph# [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The cable that attaches the driver seat belt to the base of the seat broke while I was sitting in the vehicle driving. Truck has been well cared for and this seems like a major safety issue since the seatbelt has been ineffective for who knows how long at this point. Online recall tool indicates I have 0 open recalls too. Thank you!

I have a 2014 Chevy Silverado that just got a broken seatbelt driver side tension rod. This was serviced in 2016 due recall and closed with just a plate put in place. Now because the rod may have been compromise it finally gave out and the tension rod completely snapped off and my seatbelt is broken and unsafe. I called dealer that performed repair said they couldn’t do anything I called gm/chevy and said it’s normal wear and tear that doesn’t seam correct to me. There’s an issue with it and it shouldn’t snap off while driving I shouldn’t have to pay out of pocket for a know defect that was not properly corrected and was just preformed a quick fix that didn’t solve the issue.

I was buckling my seatbelt and the cable connecting the lap belt end to the seat base broke. The failure was at the top end of the cable where the cable is swedged into a bracket. From my inspection of the cable, it looked like a fatigue type failure of the cable at the point the flexure was stopped by the end connection.

ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 18, 2020, I, [XXX], ENTERED THE STATED VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTED TO ?BUCKLE-UP.? I GRASPED THE SEAT BELT.. AND PROCEEDED TO PULL INTO PLACE.... TO MY ASTONISHMENT THE END OF THE SEAT BELT ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE CAME RIGHT OUT OF THE SEAT. SEE ATTACHED PHOTO. UNFORTUNATELY, AT THAT INSTANT I WAS UNAWARE THAT A VOLUNTARY RECALL WAS ISSUED ON THIS PROBLEM ON APRIL 15 , 2016, FOR OVER 800,000 SIMILAR VEHICLES! I SERVICE MY SILVERADO AT THE PURCHASING DEALER SINCE PURCHASE DATE OF 06/17/14. MY QUESTION IS WHY DID THE CURRENT REPAIR PROTOCOLS NOT FIND & REPAIR THIS POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC SAFETY PROBLEM? WE AS CONSUMERS PLACE ALL OUR TRUST IN THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURERS AND ON-GOING CERTIFIED SERVICE CENTERS. THANK GOD THAT THIS EXPLANATION DID NOT COST ME OR MY FAMILY INJURY OR DEATH. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS CLAIM AND POSSIBLY MAKE THE NECESSARY CHANGES TO REQUIRE MANUFACTURERS TO ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING POSITIVE TO A KNOWN SAFETY DEFECT. WE ALL PUT OUR TRUST IN THIS SYSTEM! THANK YOU. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
