Driving home on the interstate my truck started making a knocking sound and the vehicle would shake over 45 miles an hour. We took to a dealer that said the lifters were bad, and potentially caused damage to the cam shaft. There was no warranty. I asked how this happens under 60,000 miles and was told it’s just part failure. And with the 6.2 engines, it’s a known occurrence. I then see that Chevy 6.2L engines for earlier years had a recall for this same issue but our 2017 was excluded. The dealer quoted $10,500 for repair. But we found a local shop that did the work for around $7500.

NHTSA Safety Complaint To: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Regarding: Vehicle Safety Hazard / Fraudulent Repairs on 2017 Chevrolet Silverado VIN: [XXX] To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to file an emergency vehicle safety complaint regarding a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado, VIN [XXX], purchased on XXX. Huntley Ford performed unauthorized, fraudulent, and unsafe repairs that resulted in the vehicle being returned to me as an active fire hazard, directly violating federal motor vehicle safety expectations. Huntley Ford forced a salvage engine onto the vehicle, stripped me of my repair rights, and intentionally cleared dashboard error codes to mask severe, systemic mechanical defects. Following an engine replacement, transmission replacement, and catalytic converter replacement, I took the vehicle to Sunrise Chevrolet for inspection. The technician at Sunrise Chevrolet discovered that the vehicle was actively burning fluid onto the alternator. The technician explicitly stated that the vehicle was a fire hazard and that there was an emergency safety brake problem, and brakes. Huntley Ford knowingly delivered a structurally compromised and life-threatening vehicle. I request a full investigation into Huntley Ford’s repair safety practices to protect the public from further hazardous non-compliance. I have a 16 page paper trail Word document letter proving Huntley Ford committed auto fraud, has practiced illegal practices, lied, sold us a truck that they cleared codes, after only a few months full transmission, c. converter replacement, engine, and did not fix the truck properly still, returned it back to us when they knew it was not ok, lied, cleared codes, we brought our own scanner, they lied again, said the codes just needed to be cleared. When we notified [XXX], Huntley Ford's repair manager, he did nothing. Sincerely, [XXX]/[XXX] ________________________________________ INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended and the vehicle lost power. The contact merged onto the right side of the road, turned off and restarted the vehicle and the vehicle worked as intended; however, after driving fifteen miles down the road, the failure persisted. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer to be diagnosed. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. The transmission was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 113,800.

Torque converter clutch failed and sent metal chips through the transmission causing the transmission to fall and made the truck not drivable. The check engine light came on a few hours before the transmission finally gave out. The transmission would not shift out of first gear. We were on a family trip to [XXX] from [XXX] and this left us stranded with three kids in the truck on the side of the road. When I took the truck to the shop they asked several other transmission shops if they had seen this issue and they all confirmed they did with the same truck and the best case is to rebuild the transmission instead of replacing the just the torque converter clutch due to the amount of damage it did. Transmission is hunting for gear when decelerating. Back and forth it tries to change gear. Just started. I have 64,000 miles on the truck. At 22,000 it started shuddering and the fluid was changed which corrected the issue then. At 53,000 the shudder returned and I paid the dealerdealership to replace the torque converter. Now 12,000 miles later I'm having a shifting issue. This Transmission seems to be problematic.

Interstate driving when I was required to brake quickly. Truck aggressively pulled to the right nearly colliding with another vehicle. There was a recall out for the very same thing on later model Z71 Chevy trucks. It seems I bought one that has quirks from earlier and later model vehicles. Owner manuals are not much help in these areas. Perhaps you can shed some light on this problem.

A very bad ticking noise from the engine. Since I purchased this vehicle, all maintenance and any recall repairs have been completed by the dealership. I first thought that when the oil was changed they did not change the oil filter. Then after a diagnosis of possible lifters in the engine, I did a little research and it appears that Chevy knew this problem existed in 2016 and continued to allow the production of the vehicle through 2018 when the issue was fixed. Why do I as a senior citizen on a low income have to pay for an issue that Chevrolet knew about but continued production of that vehicle with that issue still not resolved. I do not have up to $10,000 to complete that repair and cannot drive the vehicle knowing it has this problem and it could potentially create a bigger problem from driving it.

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. The vehicle failed to stop immediately. The contact used added force to depress the brake pedal to slow and stop the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or a dealer. The contact associated the failure with Special Coverage Adjustment: N182202780 (Brake Assist Decreased Due to Vacuum Loss). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.

The vehicle has experienced persistent engine performance issues that have not been resolved through standard repairs. Initial diagnostics indicated knock sensor faults, which were replaced at significant cost. However, the issue persisted and additional codes related to air fuel imbalance (P219B) appeared. The vehicle continues to exhibit reduced power, hesitation, and inconsistent acceleration while driving. This creates a safety concern, particularly when merging into traffic or attempting to accelerate in situations requiring reliable engine response. The dealership has quoted a minimum repair cost exceeding $7,000, with the possibility of increasing to $10,000 depending on further findings once the engine is opened. Due to the high cost and uncertainty of repair, the vehicle may remain in operation with an unresolved defect. Research indicates that similar issues have been reported by other owners of this vehicle generation, suggesting a potential broader defect that may impact vehicle safety. This issue affects the vehicle’s ability to deliver consistent power and safe acceleration. Given the relatively low mileage and the severity of the repair required, this may represent a defect that warrants further investigation. There is an open recall but my truck is not listed. I was driving around today and my front brakes are not fully releasing. Brakes are hot and do not feel comfortable driving with this issue.Call my local dealership and GM customer service and both say I am out of luck. The recall is a faulty vacuum pump and or an update of the electronic brake control module software. This also happened a few weeks ago in occasion but today was all day. Thanks.

My truck only has 72,000 miles on it, yet the lifters in the engine are failing/ malfunctioning. While in drive, it has a hard time shifting into higher gears causing the engine to continue revving but not picking up more speed. A quick google search shows this to be a common issue. GM was made aware of the problem but did not offer much help in resolving the matter. GM specifically stated the NHTSA needs to say it is a safety issue before they will do anything about it.

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 on January 16, 2026. The contact stated that while an independent mechanic was attempting to repair the engine, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy with the vehicle. The vehicle was a private sale. The contact called the private dealer and requested the money back that was paid to purchase the vehicle, and the dealer declined the request. The contact called the State Attorney General's Office and was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. I was driving in the rain 3 nights ago when my Chevy Silverado unexpectedly started shaking very bad , jerking while trying to brake, surging forward and total loss of acceleration. My dash lights were blinking and I was scared ,I had no idea what was going on. Since our family are loyal Jba customers( we own 2 silverados) and payed for the extended warranty and certified warranty I drove straight there and explained what happened. I was scared and crying, just diagnosed with Vulva Cancer stage lllC. Well the truck has been in the shop at jba diagnosed with bad Cam shift rod and lifts. They want $10,300.00 for repair. Even though we've been with them so long and had every maintenance done through them they weren't helpful in helping. Can someone help me? I need to be able to get to John's Hopkins for my cancer treatments. I've looked up this issue and it looks VERY common. Please, help me. Jba had me sign a document so the dates can be verified.

One of the factory solder joints on the air conditioning condenser failed causing the refrigerant to leak out of the air conditioning system rendering the air conditioning notn functional. This is a safety issue because without functioning air conditioning the windshield defogger is ineffective and visibility is drastically reduced. This is a known issue with 2017 through 2018 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks. The problem has not been diagnosed by a dealer as I confirmed the diagnosis myself. There were no warning lights when the failure occurred. The only indication of the failure was the loss of effectiveness of the windshield defogger. This failure first occurred on 3/6/26 with 58,485 miles on the vehicle. I am the only one who has inspected the vehicle and it is available for third party inspection upon request.

Transmission failure at 120, 000 was replaced. Then factory thermostat went and then trickled down to the transmission. Got too hot and cooked the transmission. Come to find out it was also the radiator so that was replaced along with the thermostat and a second transmission. Put a transmission cooler on but still get very warm on the transaction fluid. Can't keep the temperature down in the summer while I'm towing. Trailer is well under the weight of the max capacity for the truck. And the latest problem I've had was to replace parts of the frame because that was rotted and beyond inspectable. Now I'm 14,000 in the negative with no reprieve. What is GM going to do for me as far as reimbursement? Cuz I still owe a little over $9,000 on the truck. This is ridiculous and I believe I'm going to another brand of truck when I can get out from underneath this one. I've been a Chevy owner my entire life and this is how you guys react to all your mistakes.
