I contacted Chevrolet corporate and they confirmed an open government ordered recall. They told me to contact a local dealer. I have contacted 2 dealers in the San Diego area, Bob Sall Chevrolet and Courtesy Chevrolet. Both refuse to fix the recall issue. I was told by Bob Stall Chevrolet that I could pay myself to have the work done
The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled inadvertently. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The contact was able to push the vehicle to the side of the road with the assistance of Police Officers. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that fuel was leaking onto the ground and the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred two more times while driving. The vehicle was then towed to the independent mechanic, who replaced the fuel pump two more times. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 06E043000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was bouncing while sitting in the seats and while driving. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the tires and aligned the vehicle several times; however, the failure had been reoccurring. The contact also stated that the dashboard was fractured. The contact also stated that water was leaking through the top of the windshield whenever it rained. The windshield was replaced twice. The contact stated that the rear driver’s side seat belt and passenger’s seat belt failed to operate as needed. The contact stated that the seat belts would fail to come out of the housing or they would be twisted whenever they came out of the housing. The contact also stated that the seat belt latches were not working. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
THIS IS MY SECOND REPORT ABOUT THE SEAT BELTS IN MY SUBURBAN. THE DRIVERS SEAT BELTS AND FRONT PASSENGER WORK FINE. THE ONES INSTALLED IN THE SECOND AND THIRD ROW SEATING ARE DEFECTIVE. IN OUR VEHICLE THIS IS MAINLY THE SHOULDER BELTS. THEY WILL NOT RELEASE FROM THE CASING SO THAT THE CHILDREN CAN BUCKLE UP. THEY ARE ALWAYS JAMMED. I HAVE CHECKED THEM ON MANY OCCASIONS. I DO NOT FIND THEM TWISTED, THEY LOOK NORMAL BUT WILL NOT OPERATE. *JB
WHILE PULLING OUT ON TO THE MAIN STREET FROM A RESIDENTIAL HOUSING AREA, BOTH LANES CLEAR OF ON COMING TRAFFIC..DRY/SUNNY DAY.....12 NOON SATURDAY....AS I PULLED OUT I SAW 60 YARDS AHEAD TRAFFIC IN MY LANE WAS STOPPED FOR A VEHICLE 3-4 CARS AHEAD OF ME MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN. MY SPEED WAS UNDER 25 MPH AND WHEN I WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES MY 1999 SUBURBAN 2WD WOULD NOT STOP. I APPLIED MY BRAKES WELL IN ADVANCE OF THE STOPPED VEHICLES, BUT MY SUBURBAN CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD WITH LITTLE OR NOT STOPPAGE. I TRIED TO DITCH THE VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT BUT COULD NOT DUE TO A TELEPHONE POLE, ROAD SIDE CEMETERY AND TREES. AT THE TIME I SAW THE ON COMING LEFT LANE DID NOT HAVE VEHICLES COMING SO I PULLED OUT INTO THAT LANE. I PASSED 2 OR 3 OF THE VEHICLE IN MY LANE BEFORE A VEHICLE TRAVELING IN THE LEFT LANE TOWARDS ME CAME. I TRIED TO STEER THE SUBURBAN TO THE LEFT INTO THE DITCH. I WAS UNSUCCESSFUL AND COLLIDED HEAD ON WITH THE OTHER VEHICLE. I HAD MY SEAT BELT ON BUT THE SEAT BELT DID NOT STOP ME FROM HITTING MY HEAD ON THE WIND SHIELD CAUSING A STAR BURST CRACK IN THE GLASS. BOTH AIR BAGS DEPLOYED....CW *JB
THE REAR SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY WAS DESIGNED BACKWARDS. *JB
AFTER THE CONSUMER PULLED THE FRONT SEAT BELTS OUT TO LATCH, THE BELTS RUBBED AGAINST THE SEAT ADJUSTER, WHICH CAUSED THE SEAT BELTS TO FRAY. *JB
THE HUB ON THE FRONT LEFT BRAKE WAS WARPED CAUSING A GRINDING NOISE. NLM
OWNER IS NOT SATISFIED WITH CORRECTION ACTION FOR RECALL (00V-122), PART ONLY COMES IN ONE COLOR WHICH DOES NOT MATCH THE INTERIOR OF TRUCK, THE PART WOULD ALSO CAUSE SAME TYPE OF INJURY. *CJ
ON THREE OCCASIONS DRIVER'S SEAT BELT WOULD LOCK UP IN RETRACTOR AND LEAVE OCCUPANT WITHOUT ANY RESTRAINT. DEALER REPAIRED THE PROBLEM ON THREE OCCASIONS, AND PROBLEM KEPT REOCCURRING. *AK DEFECTIVE DESIGN FLAW CAUSED THE BELT NOT RETRACTING PROPERLY. *YH
RADIATOR WAS REPLACED. ALSO, BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED. TRANSMISSION WAS LEAKING, AND STEERING WHEEL ROTATION SENSOR (EVO) WAS REPLACED, FUEL TANK SENDER PUMP UNIT WAS REPLACED, AND THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPAIRED. *AK MIDDLE SEAT BELT BUCKLE WON'T LOCK. *YH
THE PLASTIC KNOB ON THE SEAT BELT CATCHES ON THE SEAT ADJUSTMENT LEVER MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO LATCH PROPERLY. *ET
DEFECTIVE ABS SYSTEM CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO PULL TO THE RIGHT DURING APPLICATION. YH THE RESTRAINT TIGHTENS TIGHTER AND TIGHTER UNTIL IT BECOMES UNCOMFORTABLE TO THE CONSUMER, THE SEAT-SHOULDER HARNESS WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AND THE REPLACEMENT IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. *SLC
DUE TO THE LOCATION OF THE ARM REST LEVER, LEVER IS CUTTING BOTH DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER'S SIDE SEAT BELTS. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED THE DEALER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
