2015 Chevrolet Suburban Airbags Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the airbag system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Airbags reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving at 10 MPH and making a right turn to enter a parking lot, the vehicle behind failed to see the contact's turning signal and brake lights therefore did not slow down resulting in the contact being rear-ended. As a result, the vehicle was pushed by the impact of the rear end and crashed into a utility pole where it came to a stop. A police report was filed. There was no medical attention required. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot where it was pending another tow to a collision center. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.

On August 21, 2021 My Daughter [XXX], husband [XXX] and myself was in a car accident on the 495 beltway in PG County, Maryland. We where hit from the rear back side (fishtail) on the passenger of vehicle which caused the vehicle to spin across all 4 lanes and hit the guardrail.. The impact caused all of us to be locked inside the vehicle in which I had to physically kick my door open from the inside because I was unable to get out. I was able to get out and go to my husband side (drivers side) because he was bleeding from his head, I had to forcefully pull and pull to open his door because it was also jammed and wouldn’t open. Same for my daughters side(passenger rear).. The entire front of the truck was pushed back, doors, front and back of the vehicle was badly damaged and NOT ONE AIRBAG DEPLOYED.. NOT ONE. My husband was the driver and sustained head injuries with head bleeding and was transported via ambulance to NOVA Fairfax County Hospital. My daughter was transported via ambulance to Washington Hospital Trauma Center. I went to Washington Hospital Center ER but was unable to stay and went to Kaiser Permanente Urgent Care once my daughter was discharged from the Trauma Side of the hospital that night. Geico has determined that the truck is a totally lost and that the damages thus far have exceeded $30,000 but waiting on final approvals of Numbers. We do have a police report. To answer the question above. The airbags failed to deploy in the accident. We could have died. My husband had to get staples in his head and disk are messed up in his back. There where no warnings on the dash board before the crash. The vehicle has been inspected by the insurance company and the police on the scene. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

AFTER RECENTLY PURCHASING A USED 2015 GM VEHICLE FROM A NON-GM DEALERSHIP, I MADE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT WITH A LOCAL AUTHORIZED GM SERVICE SHOP TO HAVE THREE OUTSTANDING SAFETY RECALL ISSUES ADDRESSED. MY APPOINTMENT WAS FOR 7:30 AM ON 8/25/2020 AND I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO THE SHOP IN THE MORNING OF 8/25. AFTER 4:30 PM I RETURNED TO RETRIEVE MY VEHICLE, AND THE SERVICE SHOP HAD NOT EVEN BROUGHT IT IN TO LOL AT THE ISSUES. NO WORK HAD BEEN PERFORMED, DESPITE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAVING MY VEHICLE IN THEIR POSSESSION NOT ONLY DURING THE TIMEFRAME SPECIFICALLY SCHEDULED FOR THEM TO PERFORM THIS SERVICE, BUT THE ENTIRE REMAINDER OF THE WORK DAY. THE SAFETY RECALL ISSUES REMAIN UNRESOLVED.

VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, DRIVER PLACED AC ON HIGHEST SETTING, BUT NOTHING BLEW OUT (MYLINK SCREEN ALSO DISPLAYS NO AIR). NAVIGATION STOPS WORKING IN MIDDLE OF ROUTE AND CHANGES DESTINATION TO A DIFFERENT COUNTRY (MEXICO). VEHICLE FEELS LIKE IT WANTS TO DIE IN STOP/GO TRAFFIC AND WHILE IN STATIONARY POSITION. WHEN MAKING TURNS AT ANY SPEED, DRIVER WILL BEGIN BRAKING, AND VEHICLE ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN CAUSING MANY NEAR MISS ACCIDENTS INCLUDING ALMOST FALLING OFF A BRIDGE. LASTLY, MANY 2015 SUBURBANS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THEIR AIRBAGS, BUT MINE HAS NOT. CONCERNED THAT OURS MAY BE IMPACTED AND DO NOT WISH TO END UP INJURED OR A FATALITY. NHTSA HAS DOCUMENTED FATALITIES OF AIRBAG FAILURES FROM VEHICLES NOT RECALLED THAT WERE 2015 TAHOE AND SUBURBANS. VIBRATIONS ARE SO LOUD THEY CAUSE MIGRAINES AND EARACHES IN ALL OCCUPANTS.

TAKATA RECALL- ON MAY 27 2016 WE WERE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN OUR 2015 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. 2 OF THE 4 PASSENGERS PASSED AWAY. WE WERE RAN OFF THE OF ROAD AND HIT TWICE BY A TRUCK PULLING A TRAILER. ALL AIRBAGS EXCEPT THE FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVERS FRONT AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THIS OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. WE CROSSED NORTHBOUND LANES AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP ABOUT 10 FEET OFF OF THE ROADWAY. A MOTORHOME TOWING A JEEP LOCKED THEIR BRAKES GOING APPROX 65 MPH WHEN THEY SAW US CROSS THE ROAD AND LOST CONTROL CAUSING THEM TO COME OFF OF THE ROADWAY. THEY HIT US, CAUSING US TO SPIN AROUND AND THEN HIT US AGAIN. THE ACCIDENT ENDED WITH US BEING SLAMMED INTO A CEMENT CULVERT. DURING THIS TIME THE FRONT AIRBAGS STILL DID NOT DEPLOY AND ALSO THE STEERING WHEEL BROKE OFF. THE FRONT PASSENGER PASSED AWAY AS WELL AS HIS SISTER SITTING BEHIND HIM. CAN SOMEONE LOOK INTO THIS AND SEE WHY THE FRONT AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND ALSO WHY THE STEERING BROKE? THANK YOU. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
