2015 Chevrolet Suburban Fuel system Problems

Fuel line leak caused by design flaw in which line plastic fuel feed line (GM part #84200271) is installed too close to the undercarriage, causing it to rub against the frame due to vibration and wear a pinhole. This is known by gm in service bulletin Service Bulletin 17-NA-304. This is a fuel leak, that can causes significant fire danger to people, property, and nature. Eventually putting first responders at risk. Also the environmental risk of continuous leaking fuel. Luckily, I could smell it before anything bad happened. But if GM knows about this issue, it’s big enough they should do something about it and so should the NHTSA.

Replaced lifters 1,3,5,7 and added automatic fuel mgmt system bypass chip after the vehicle went into limp mode ON THE HIGHWAY. Ran for less than 2000 miles and those same lifters failed a second time and had to be replaced AGAIN. The last incident occurred after about 200 miles and had engine failure, limp mode with multiple sensor failures in the middle of the road in the dark. Limited ability to move it safely off the road.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that the odor of fuel was present inside and outside the vehicle. The contact stated that upon investigation, it was discovered that fuel was leaking under the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who determined that the fuel line had ruptured due to excessive rubbing against other components. The fuel line was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 155,000.

My wife called me and said she could smell gasoline in our 2015 suburban. I went to the store she was located at and it smelled like raw gasoline. I called a tow truck company and to haul our suburban to the shop. The fuel line has been rubbing against the vehicle frame and rubbed a hole in it. This is very dangerous as the fuel take and line is located right underneath my kids seats.

We smelled gas inside and outside of the car. Upon inspection, I found gas leaking from the fuel line under the vehicle that comes from the fuel tank. This created a dangerous situation as noxious fumes were introduced to the cabin of the vehicle, and the leaking gas created a fire hazard. We took the vehicle to the dealer, and they confirmed that the frame rubbing on the fuel line created a dangerous leak. They confirmed this is a common problem for this model and a redesign of the replacement fuel line would prevent the problem in the future, but no recall has been issued. We paid $1180.20 to have the fuel line replaced. No inspections other than the dealer and myself have been performed. No warning lights or messages indicated the problem.

While driving, I noticed a significant smell of gas coming from my 2015 Chevrolet Suburban. When I stopped the vehicle, it was even more noticeable. I pulled over and got out of the car only to notice gas pouring (not dripping, more gushing) from under the vehicle between the driver's side door and driver's side passenger door. I was concerned as I had my young child with me and had no way of having someone pick us up. I drove it directly to the mechanic in which they confirmed a leak coming from above the tank and that they would not be able to repair the leak until they dropped the tank. Once dropping the tank, they found a hole in the fuel supply line above the tank due to a poor design and friction from the poor design. There is a service bulletin, 17-NA-304, but it does not protect owners from the cost of the repair. The repair cost was $425.38 despite it being a known issue with GM. This design is incredibly dangerous. Not only is the raw fuel inhalation through the vents a health hazard, it could cause a catastrophic fire as well. I have four children, the reason why we needed to drive a Suburban. The devastation of the risk of this flaw is incredible. This needs to be considered a recall and the cost should be covered by the company, not the owner. I emailed GM's customer service and they stated that nothing could be done because the vehicle was out of warranty.

Due to a faulty design, the fuel feed line (GM part # 84200271) has been worn through from vibration resulting in a pin hole in the line at the point where the fuel line is seated in the molded-in clip retainer of the fuel tank. This wear has resulted in raw fuel pouring over the top of the fuel tank and producing a significant risk to life and health from fire and inhalation. The fumes from the raw fuel could be smelled through the A/C vents while driving highway speed (inhalation hazard). Once the vehicle is turned off the fuel leak subsides. However, while idling in park the fuel leak would puddle under the vehicle resulting in a significant and potentially catastrophic fire hazard. While researching the symptoms of my issue, I discovered many complaints of the exact symptoms and findings that I have discovered. I spoke over the phone with a service department employee of a local GM dealership who denied having addressed this issue on other vehicles similar to mine (2015 Suburban LT). I will bring the worn-through fuel feed line to this same dealership to inquire about possible mitigation for this known issue (See service bulletin 17-NA-304). The symptoms that I first noticed were a hard start and the smell of raw fuel in and around the vehicle. No check engine light or other warning messages were displayed to alert me of this failure.

We had just completed a 1,000 mile trip for a family emergency. When we arrived at our destination, we found that somewhere during the last 500 miles of the trip, we had developed a fuel leak. After removing the fuel tank, my husband discovered a break in the fuel feed hose, as well as several worn spots in the line and on the top of the fuel tank. We were traveling in 100 degree weather, and I am just thankful at this point that the Suburban did not catch on fire!

WHILE I WAS DRIVING APPROX 45 -60 MPH I SMELLED GAS, I DISMISSED IT THINKING THAT I WAS SMELLING THE OLD TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME. I PARKED MY SUBURBAN AT MY DESTINATION AND STILL SMELLED IT BUT I DISMISSED IT BECAUSE I WAS LATE TO MY APPOINTMENT. WHEN I CAME BACK OUT TO MY VEHICLE APPROX 2 HOURS LATER I STILL SMELLED THE GAS PRETTY STRONG. I LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND DIDN'T SEE ANY DRIPS, I WAS PARKED ON GRASS SO I COULDN'T SEE ANY PUDDLES IF THERE WAS ANY. I GOT IN AND DROVE APPROX 100 YARDS TO PICK UP MY SON IN THE PARKING LOT AND STILL SMELLED IT, I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND LOOKED UNDER, THERE WAS A DRIP ABOUT EVERY SECOND COMING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE FUEL TANK AND IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM THE TOP OF THE TANK WHERE I COULDN'T SEE. I TOOK IT TO EAGLE BUICK GMC IN CRYSTAL RIVER AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE 2 FUEL LINES ON THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. IT WAS APPROX $680.00 TO FIX. WHILE I WAS WAITING FOR THE VEHICLE I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS IS PRETTY COMMON AND IS DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW. THE GAS LINES RUB AGAINST THE CHASSIS AND GET A HOLE IN THEM. I DO BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE A RECALL.

2015 CHEVY SUBURBAN. STARTING MY CAR THE MORNING OF 19 AUG 20 I FOUND IT ODD THAT IT STRUGGLED TO START. I TAKE IT TO MY TRUSTED MECHANIC TO HAVE A BETTER LOOK AND HE INFORMED I HAVE TO REPLACE THE HOSE IN THE FUEL LINE ABOVE THE GAS TANK BETWEEN WERE THE TWO DOORS MEET. PART NO. 23248011. IT WAS STATIONARY WHEN I SUSPECTED SOMETHING BUT EVIDENCE SUGGEST THE LINE WAS RUBBED AGAINST OTHER COMPONENTS IN THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND DAMAGED THE FUEL SYSTEM WHILE IN MOTION. PROBABLY FROM THE OTHER COMPLAINT I'M ABOUT TO PUT IN ABOUT THE DREADED HIGHWAY VIBRATION BETWEEN 75-80 MPH. AND THAT'S NOT SPEEDING, THERE ARE HIGHWAYS IN TEXAS UP TO 85MPH AND TOLLWAYS AT 75MPH. A LITTLE INCONVENIENCE OF VIBRATION ISN'T MUCH OF A CONCERN. AT FIRST. FUEL HOWEVER IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.

FIRST 3 WEEKS WAS TOLD PART WAS ON BACKORDER, THEN THAT IT WAS GOING TO BECOME A RECALL AND THAT THE PART NEEDED TO BE REDESIGNED AND THAT THERE WAS NO IMMEDIATE TIME FRAME FOR VEHICLE RETURN. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING A DEALERSHIP LOANER FOR 2 MONTHS NOW. DEALERSHIP ASKED IF THEY CAN "CRAFT" A PATCH TO GET MY VEHICLE OUT OF THE SHOP. I DENIED THIS, CONSIDERING I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE LEGALITIES WILL BE. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN CHEVY, THIS IS MY 3RD SUBURBAN/TAHOE AND I'M CONSIDERING FILING LEMON LAW.
