Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
1
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

FUEL PUMP MODULE LEAKS GASOLINE

Opened Jul 10, 2007
Closed Aug 28, 2008

DURING THE COURSE OF THIS EA INVESTIGATION, ODI OBSERVED THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE COMPLAINTS (88%) AND WARRANTY CLAIMS (94%) WERE REPORTED FOR VEHICLES THAT ARE REGISTERED FOR USE IN THE SALT BELT REGION OF THE US.THIS AREA INCLUDES 20 STATES IN THE NORTHEAST, MID ATLANTIC AND THE MIDWEST REGIONS AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.CONSUMERS IN THE SALT BELT REGION REPORTED TO ODI THAT THEY COULD SMELL FUEL VAPORS IN THEIR VEHICLES WHILE DRIVING.UPON FURTHER EXAMINATION OF THEIR VEHICLES, THEY DISCOVERED THAT FUEL VAPORS WERE COMING OUT OF THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. THIS CONDITION IS CAUSED BY CORROSION OF THE RETURN AND SENDER LINES OF THE FUEL PUMP MODULE.WATER AND ROAD SALT COLLECT ON TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP LEADING TO SMALL PINHOLES APPEARING ON THE FUEL LINES.FUEL MAY LEAK AND COLLECT ON TOP OF THE MODULE AND/OR SPILL ONTO THE GROUND.THE DATA EVALUATED UNDER THIS INVESTIGATION REFLECT A RELATIVELY LOW FREQUENCY OF OCCURRENCE THAT LARGELY ARISES IN SALT BELT STATES.GM HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE SUBJECT COMPONENT TO TEN YEARS OR 120,000 MILES.FURTHER USE OF AGENCY RESOURCES DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE WARRANTED AT THIS TIME; ACCORDINGLY, THIS INVESTIGATION IS CLOSED.THE CLOSING OF THIS INVESTIGATION DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A FINDING BY NHTSA THAT NO SAFETY-RELATED DEFECT EXISTS.THE AGENCY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO TAKE FURTHER ACTION IF WARRANTED BY THE CIRCUMSTANCES.FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION SELECT DOCUMENT SEARCH.

NONE OF THE GAUGES IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WORK AT ALL. I HAD ALL OF THE STEPPER MOTORS, AND THE NEEDLES REPLACED. PARTS AND LABOR TOTALING $350.00, AND AS SOON AS I WAS DOWN THE STREET 4 OUT OF THE 6 DID NOT WORK,AND THESE REPAIRS WHERE JUST DONE IN 2015. NOW THE TWO THAT WERE WORKING JUST QUIT 3 DAYS AGO. I DO NOT KNOW HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE,I DO NOT KNOW HOW FAST I AM GOING, I DO NOT KNOW IF MY VEHICLE IS RUNNING HOT, OR IF THE BATTERY IS CHARGING. I HAVE NOTHING. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING EVERY TIME I START THE CAR. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE USED AND THE GAUGES WERE BROKE WHEN I BOUGHT IT CAUSE I THOUGHT THAT I COULD GET THEM FIXED. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS TOPIC ON TRAILBLAZERS IN GENERAL ON THE TRAILVOY FORUM, AND YOU WOULD BE SICK TO SEE HOW MANY OWNERS OF TRAILBLAZERS, OR TO READ THE STORIES. ALSO IT IS IRRESPONSIBLE TO LET PEOPLE DRIVE A VEHICLE UNDER THESE CONDITIONS, AND VERY, VERY, VERY UNSAFE. TO NOT KNOW ANYONE OF THESE THINGS COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STOP WHILE DRIVING RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. I WILL BE WAITING ALONG WITH THOUSANDS OF OTHERS FOR YOUR RECALL. J.S.

AS WE WERE DRIVING THE LOW BEAM LIGHTS COMPLETELY QUIT WORKING WE QUICKLY SWITCHED TO THE HIGH BEAM LIGHTS WHICH WORKED WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. AT THIS TIME THE INCIDENT WAS SEVERAL MONTHS AGO AND THE LOW BEAMS STILL DO NOT WORK AT ALL. THE TRAILBLAZER IS DESIGNED FOR THE LIGHTS TO WORK AT ALL TIMES AND THEY HAVE NEVER TURNED ON SINCE THE INCIDENT. WE HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE HIGH BEAMS AND ALL SIGNALS SEEM TO BE FUNCTIONAL. AS I HAVE RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM SEEN BY SEVERAL PEOPLE. I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM SOMEONE IN REGARDS TO THIS PROBLEM. ANY INFORMATION OR HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. *TR

Manufacturer communications

A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

PIP5601C

This PI communicates the requirement to provide a pico file to receive diagnostic assistance from TAC.

PIT3271P

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about changing the tire and wheel size on vehicles. General Motors will only support a tire calibration for tires that have been sized, tested and designed for the vehicle in question and its applications. Technician should not use the information that is provided by the antilock braking system tire size selection.

General Communication

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Vehicle Wide Programming (VWP) is a new process to update software on GM Vehicles. It provides the ability via a single selection within Techline Connect to first identify which modules need updating and then proceed to updating affected modules (with some exceptions). The updating of modules is completed in parallel instead of the technician needing to update one module at a time. This allows a more streamlined approach for dealers and customers.

24-NA-141

POWER TRAIN

GM is receiving damaged (cracked or broken) transmission cores returned to the reman facilities. The damage is being caused either in the removal process by the technician, or inadequate packaging or shipping. This bulletin advises the dealers to be more careful not to damage the transmissions during removal and to package the core properly for return.

16-NA-383

ENGINE; FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

This service bulletin advises of a new fuel injection cleaner kit used for decarbonizing the intake valves to correct conditions of rough idle, Crank no start, extended crank or misfire, MIL with DTCs, and explains how Top Tier fuels should be used to reduce carbon build-up.

18-NA-099

This bulletin provides information for use on a Product Assistance Claim (PAC), which is formerly known as a Product Allegation Resolution (PAR) claim.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
