1998 Chevrolet Venture Driver assistance Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the driver-assistance system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Driver assistance reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

MY WIFE AND I NOTICED A DELAYED RESPONSE WHEN ACCELERATOR WAS PUSHED WHILE ALREADY AT SPEED. MY WIFE ALSO SAID THAT THE ENGINE SOUNDED DIFFERENT THAN IN THE PAST. WE TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY INSPECTED THE TRANSMISSION. THERE ARE METAL SHAVINGS THROUGHOUT THE TRANSMISSION - IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. WE DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW A VEHICLE THAT HAS RECEIVED REGULAR MAINTAINANCE CAN HAVE A TRANSMISSION GO BAD AT ONLY 50K MILES.

ENGINE RANDOMLY GOES TO FULL THROTTLE WHEN BRAKING. THIS OCCURS ONLY AFTER THE VAN HAS BEEN DRIVEN LONG ENOUGH FOR THE ENGINE TO GET TO RUN TEMP. THE VAN IS THEN PARKED (ENGINEOFF) FOR ABOUT 30 TO 45 MIN. THEN ENGINE IS RESTARTED . WHEN THE BRAKES ARE NEXT APPLIED THE ENGINE GOES TO FULL THROTTLE. THIS IS A RANDOM EVENT AND WILL NOT ALWAYS OCCUR WHEN THE PREVIOUS CONDITIONS ARE PRESENT. (LIKE THE TRAGEDY IN MINNEAPOLIS DEC 4 1998)
