What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2014 Chrysler 300, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Florida title record shows 170,520 miles on 07/27/2019 and current brand NOT ACTUAL MILEAGE. Odometer rolled back 71,666 miles. This is federal odometer fraud. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
As I was driving my car felt like if it went on neutral. I almost crashed. Stopped. Then it would not come off of park. I kept putting it on drive and it automatically kept going into park mode. The car was still running though. And turns on. It still wont drive. Turns on but doesn't go onto drive mode.
Powertrain (other)

TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE AND VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY. There is a backorder(700) from the factory on this product and the wait is at least 3 months! This problem has been confirmed by the dealership as well as the backorder. The vehicle will not go in gear even with the engine running. The message displays as vehicle is already in desired gear even when it is not, and you cannot put it unto any gear even neutral, as it gets stuck in park!. The code is PO658, and the CHECK ENGINE light is illuminated and can happen without warning while vehicle is parked, stopped or idling so far as I experienced. The ignition will not turn off and the battery must be disconnected in order not to drain the battery. If this were to happen in traffic or or an intersection we all could have been KILLED. It has happened 4 times to us, Two times it started working on its own and Two times requiring a tow which cost me $600. Once at the dealer they charge a $140 non-refundable diagnosis fee and then can't fix the problem because they don't have the parts and can't get them. I think allowing Vehicles to have electronic shifting transmissions instead of manual shifters is a HUGE safety risk! The car only has 70K Highway miles on it and even if it was under warranty we can't get the darn parts. The dealer has to install it because it has to be programmed. The transmission is manufactured by ZF in Germany and they make others for several other car manufacturers. Chrysler uses this transmission across their entire fleet so this failure defect could show up in any of their product line

From owner reports, verbatim
The front passenger door panel has separated at the top leaving an open gap between the window and the door. It appears that the rubber molding was not manufactured properly and as heat from the sun warms up the molding, it deforms, pulls up and separates. The problem has continued to worsen over time and is approaching the door locking mechanism. It is also now possible for water to get to the inside of the door. This is a NON-MOVING PART that was defective at the time of manufacture, but took time to malfunction.

DRIVING ON GARDEN STATE PARKWAY, SUDDENLY A BANG FROM CAR, NO POWER TRANSMITTED TO WHEELS, HAD TO COAST OVER TO RIGHT SHOULDER, IN TRAFFIC, WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AFTER CAR STOPPED, NEVER BEFORE, "SERVICE AWD SYSTEM". CAR ONLY HAS 62,400 MILES, NO PRIOR WARNINGS. HAD TO BE TOWED OFF HIGHWAY,VEHICLE INOPERABLE PENDING REPAIR. I FOUND INFORMATION ONLINE ABOUT FAILURE OF BOLTS ON DRIVESHAFT OF AWD SYSTEM, AND A RECALL BY FCA USA OF 75,000 2014-2017 CHRYSLER 300'S AND DODGE CHARGERS IN FEBRUARY OF 2017. I CHECKED FOR RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE 0N 1/16/21, AND THERE ARE NO OPEN RECALLS.
THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS CAR BUT CHRYSLER WILL NOT COVER REPAIRS BE CAUSE IT WAS IN AN ACCIDENT CAR IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. IT IS A REBUILT SALVAGE AND THE REGISTRATION IS IN CT. I THINK THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE AIR BAG WAS NEVER DEPLOYED ON PASS SIDE. FAR RIGHT FRONT AND UNDERCARRIAGE ON LNCIDENT REPORT ONLY. ALSO CONTROL MODULES FOR CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO TURN IT OFF SHORT CIRCUIT IN VEHICLE WIRING . IF A REBUILT SALVAGE CAN BE SOLD TO ME BY A DEALER THAT IS UNSAFE WHY CAN'T CHRYSLER STAND BEHIND THERE RECALLS. OH THE CAR IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION AN I LOVE IT. CAN YOU HELP ME PLEASE.

Reports naming headlights, tail lights, turn signals and other exterior lighting.
From owner reports, verbatim

Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
My backup camera works when it wants to mostly not at all. It just flickers when I put the car in reverse. I really need it because of the blind spots. Also since the fuel issue was recalled and fixed my car smells like it's not burning the gas properly. In other words I can smell fumes.
My car has been at the first dealership (Brewbaker Dodge, Montgomery, Ala.) on November 11, 2020. I got the car back March of 2021. The problem of misfires on cylinder 1 side, hesitation when proceeding from a red light, and stalling out. The problem continued so; I took it to another dealership (Stiver Dodge, Prattville, Ala.) in August 2021. I was given the car back in February 2022 stating to me that the problem may correct itself after being driven until after my birthday (March 2022). So, to this date my car is still at the Dealership and Chrysler Star Team has no clue what is wrong with this car. I'm still paying a car note, insurance, and renewing the license plate for this car every year and moth. Chrysler knows that there is an issue with the 3.6L Pentastar engine. No one wants to help me in this situation, but all parties involved wants my money but no real solution(s). I need someone that's going to advocate for me on my behalf. I just want Chrysler at this point to just put a new engine in the dang car and cover the charges at their expense for their defective engine. Chrysler seriously knows what's going. As long as my car has been at this Dealership For over a year, how could the engineers who designed this engine not know what's wrong with? This car has very low miles to be 8yrs old with major issue. And FCA doesn't want to admit to this engine (3.6L Pentastar) being a defective engine. Look at the class action lawsuits pertaining to this. Please Sir / Ma'am help me make sense of this. Thank you.
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR 9 YEARS, AND TAKEN IT IN FOR NUMEROUS OIL CHANGES AND MULTI-POINT INSPECTIONS. ONE ITEM THAT IS INCLUDED TO BE SERVICED IS TO CHECK AND TOP OFF (IF NEEDED) THE POWER STEERING FLUID. DUE TO WHERE THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR AND PUMP IS LOCATED, THE PASSENGER SIDE TIRE AND FENDERWELL COVER MUST BE REMOVED TO ACCESS THE TWO PARTS. THIS IS QUITE A BIT OF LABOR FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND MULTI-POINT INSPECTION, YET THE SERVICE REP ASSURES ME THAT THE STEERING FLUID HAS BEEN CHECKED, EVEN THOUGH THE NOISE AND STIFF STEERING IS STILL PRESENT. MY CONCERN IS THAT DEALERSHIPS ARE NOT CHECKING THE POWER STEERING FLUID DUE TO A FAULTY LOCATION DESIGN AND THE LABOR REQUIRED TO ACCESS THE PARTS THAT NEED SERVICING FOR ROUTINE MAINTAINANCE; THE ALTERNATIVE FOR THEM IS A PROFITABLE STEERING PUMP REPLACEMENT. FROM MY OBSERVATION, THE FENDERWELL COVER HAS NEVER LOOKED AS THOUGH IT WAS REMOVED TO CHECK THE STEERING FLUID.
The contact owns a 2014 Chrysler 300. The contact stated that after restarting the vehicle, the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering assist. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced the power steering pump; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a power steering module malfunction and advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Chrysler 300. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the vehicle made a sudden stop with the traction control warning light and the electrical system warning light was illuminated. The contact turned off the vehicle and attempted to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle would not restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the mechanic replaced the electronic throttle control system and the electronic sensor; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the mechanic several times because the failure reoccurred several times. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 125,000.

From owner reports, verbatim
DRIVER HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH BACKUP CAMERA SINCE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN 2016. ORIGINALLY, THE CAMERA WOULD JUST GO IN AND OUT. A BLACK SCREEN WOULD SHOW UP ON THE MONITOR ONCE THE CAR WAS PUT INTO REVERSE. THIS WAS MENTIONED TO THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES, BUT THE CAMERA WOULD NEVER ACT UP WHEN I WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE DRIVER WAS ALSO TOLD THAT AN UPDATE WOULD EVENTUALLY SOLVE THE PROBLEM, WHICH IT DID NOT. WHEN THE CAR IS PUT INTO REVERSE NOW, THE PICTURE ON THE MONITOR FROM THE BACK UP CAMERA IS ACTUALLY FLIPPED ON THE MONITOR. SO WHAT IS ACTUALLY ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR, SHOWS UP ON THE LEFT SIDE. RECENTLY WHEN GETTING RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE TAKEN CARE OF, THE DRIVER FOUND OUT THAT THE BACK UP CAMERA WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED IN 2015. THIS WAS PRIOR TO THE CAR BEING PURCHASED IN 2016. THESE PROBLEMS WERE BROUGHT UP TO THE DEALERSHIP, TELEGRAPH CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE IN TAYLOR, MI. THE BACK UP CAMERA WAS BROUGHT UP TO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN THE CAR WAS UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY, NOW IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AS THE PERCEPTION IN THE BACK UP CAMERA COULD DECEIVE THE DRIVER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHRYSLER 300. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE SUNROOF EXPLODED WITHOUT IMPACT. THE CONTACT COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THE FRONT PART OF THE SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED, AS A RESULT THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED WRIST INJURIES BUT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT CALLED MAC HAIK CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM FLOWOOD DEALER (4000 LAKELAND DR, FLOWOOD, MS 39232, (855) 223-8958) AND IT WAS INFORMED THERE WILL BE A FEE FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER DUE TO THE DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. 1. WHILE DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEEDS MY CAR SEEMS TO STRUGGLE SHIFTING INTO GEAR. IT ALSO MAKES CLUNKING SOUNDS GOING UP HILL. TODAY I ACCELERATED TO GET ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD NOISE FOR A FEW SECONDS AND FINALLY GOT UP TO SPEED. 2. MY VEHICLE ALSO HAS A FACTORY RUST PROOFING AND THE QUARTER PANELS ARE SHOWING LARGE SPOTS OF RUST ON THE FRONT AND REAR OF THE VEHICLE.
MY 2014 CHRYSLER 300 HAS LOUD CLUNKING, THUDDING NOISE WHEN TRAVELLING OVER ROUGH ROADS OR GOING OVER A SMALL BUMP. THE NOISE SOUNDS AS THOUGH SOMETHING IS ABOUT TO FALL OFF. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE ASSESSED AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE SHOCKS, STRUTS, TIE RODS AND BRUSHELS TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM. I WAS GIVEN A ESTIMATION OF $3000.00 DOLLARS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. IT WAS DURING THIS TIME THAT IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT MUFFLER EXHAUST PIPE HAD RUSTED AND COME APART THUS CALLING THE CAR TO SOUND AS LOUD AS AN 18 WHEELER. I WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR AND THE DODGE CHARGER . THE REPAIR COST ON THIS WAS ESTIMATED TO BE 800.00 - 1100.00 DOLLARS ALONE. PLEAS INVESTIGATE THESE COMPLAINTS BECAUSE CHRYSLER NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THESE ACTIONS.DURING THE COURSE OF MY OWN INVESTIGATION I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT SOME OF THESE PROBLEMS GO BACK AS FAR BACK AS THE 2005 MODEL CHRYSLER 300.
