The defect: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 201, "OCCUPANT PROTECTION IN INTERIOR IMPACT."
The risk: IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH IN WHICH THE AIR BAGS DO NOT DEPLOY, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF INCREASED HEAD INJURY TO THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER SHOULD CONTACT WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG COVER OCCUR.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL NEW ENERGY ABSORBING AIR BAG MOUNTING BRACKETS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JULY 23, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT DAEWOO AT 1-877-362-1234, SELECTION 1.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 DAEWOO LANOS. THE CONTACT DROVE INTO A DITCH ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S HEAD STRUCK AND CRACKED THE WINDSHIELD. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. *AK

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED SMOKE WAS OBSERVED COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THERE ARE TWO NHTSA RECALLS # 04V357000 AND 04V394000 CONCERNING THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. ALTHOUGH A RECALL LETTER WAS RECEIVED, THE PART IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER RECEIVING A RECALL, NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID# 04V357000; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING, AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE WITH THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE RECALL REPAIR COMPLETED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED, BUT THERE WERE NO OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE CONTACT PAID SOMEONE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE DRIVER THE RECALL COULD NOT BE PERFORMED DUE TO LACK OF TIME.

DT: 2002 DAEWOO LEGANZA. WHILE DRIVING, THE FUEL GAUGE STARTED TO LOWER, AND THE CAR LOST POWER AND CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR WITHOUT HARM. SHE CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, THEY CAME AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. THE FIRE WAS IN THE REAR OR UNDERNEATH THE CAR, THE TRUNK WAS DESTROYED, AND FIRE TRAVELED TO THE INTERIOR. THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT BEFORE IT ENGULFED THE ENGINE DEPARTMENT. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A JUNK YARD. A POLICE AND FIRE REPORTS WERE FILED. THE CONSUMER HAD RECALL REPAIR WORK DONE ON DECEMBER 02, 2004, THE REPAIR WAS DONE ON CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR. *AK *JB
