Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2012 Ford Edge, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

The rear camera only works sporadically. It will work once in awhile or will work and then not work at all for awhile. So far Ford has not addressed this make and model as having a problem. One of our teenagers is the primary driver and this is unsafe.

RE:Safety Complaint - Defective FCIM Causing Hazard Flashers to Activate Randomly May 22, 2026 To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally complain about a serious electrical defect affecting my 2012 Ford Edge involving the Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM). The vehicle’s hazard flashers activate randomly and repeatedly without warning, even when the vehicle is completely off and parked or operating normally. This issue appears to originate from a failed or malfunctioning FCIM module, despite the vehicle not being abused, modified, or involved in any event that would reasonably cause this failure. This defect creates multiple safety concerns, including: - Unexpected flashing while driving - Battery drain while parked - Driver distraction - Potential confusion for surrounding traffic - Loss of confidence in the vehicle’s electrical system After researching this issue, I discovered that many other Ford Edge owners have reported nearly identical FCIM-related failures, suggesting this may be a widespread defect rather than normal wear and tear. I am extremely disappointed that owners are being forced to pay significant repair costs for what appears to be a recurring design or manufacturing problem. Electronic control modules should not fail under ordinary use conditions in a manner that compromises vehicle safety functions. I respectfully request that Ford: - Investigate this recurring FCIM failure issue, - Offer goodwill repair assistance or reimbursement, - Consider issuing a technical service campaign or recall if appropriate, - And acknowledge the safety risks associated with malfunctioning hazard systems. I have been a Ford owner in good faith and hope the company will stand behind its product and assist customers financially experiencing this defect. Please contact me regarding the next steps toward resolving this issue. Thank You. The brakes are hard to mash and spongey and it has a hissing kind of sound I believe it is a brake booster. When I bought the vehicle used from a dealership they told me it didn't have any recalls on the vehicle but later own I found out it did have a recall for the abs system so i called the ford company and they told me that the recall has already ended and they wouldn't fix it and now when I look it up online it showed the brake boosted had a recall to that the dealership never told me about but now I believe the recall has already ended on that to but not sure. But if the dealership told me the truth instead of lying to me I could have got to fix so I am wondering if there is away I could get those to recalls done on my 2012 ford edge. I noticed the abs messing up just a couple months after I bought it which was I believe in 2021 or 2022 and the brake booster started messing up around july 15, 2026

As I was driving into a parking lot space, I stepped on the brake pedal, and it sank to the floor. I rapidly pumped the pedal 2 or 3 times, but it continued to sink to the floor. As the car continued moving forward, I tried to avoid colliding with landscape items, drove between 2 parked cars, scraping one or both of them, and injured a pedestrian. My vehicle stopped when I jammed the gear control into the “PARK” position.

2012 Ford Edge -The passenger door will shut but the alarm that came with the car says that the door is not shut. The alarm will not work when the car detects the door is not shut, so the interior lights will not turn off. Will this affect my battery? When I drive with the sensor on the dashboard states the door is not closed and the interior light will not shut off which becomes a distraction at night. When driving the car, the locks will not work because the dashboard senses the door is not closed. This is a family car with a child still in a car seat. Anyone can jump in my car? There a lot of blogs I found with the same situation, so Ford must know that the problem exists. The door has not been damaged. This is not part of wear and tear because a door is something that need to open and close. The situation is getting worse and worse that when im driving the dashboard announces the closed door is now open and unlocks all my doors and turns on my interior lights on.

MY VEHICLE EXHIBITS ILLUMINATED DOME LIGHTS AND DOOR AJAR MESSAGES WHEN DOORS ARE FULLY CLOSED. I GET ERROR MESSAGES INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING OF DOOR AJAR NOTIFICATION AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL COME ON UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING. THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHTS ALSO STAY ILLUMINATED EVEN WHEN I HAVE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND LOCKED THE DOORS, DRAINING BATTERY. I HAVE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF FORD'S VOLUNTARY EXTENSION OF DOOR LATCH WARRANTY THROUGH JULY 2020. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT. MY CAR BEGAN EXHIBITING THE DEFECT IN NOVEMBER 2020. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS I AM ALARMED AND CANNOT SEE WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS SUDDENLY POP ON. I ALSO FEAR MY CHILD WILL OPEN THE DOOR WHILE DRIVING AS THE "LOCK" FEATURE IS UNRELIABLE DUE TO THE DEFECT. IN ADDITION, IT IS UNSAFE FOR ME TO PARK MY VEHICLE AT NIGHT NOT KNOWING IF I WILL HAVE A DRAINED BATTERY LATER BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY TO SHUT OFF THE INTERIOR LIGHTS.

Shift to park message, not showing it is in park. Can only crank the car if you turn the key halfway and then shift to neutral to crank it. Once you put it back in park and set the emergency brake you can only crank it by repeating the process of Neutral cranking. Car will roll away without brake set. Driving is a concern as I am afraid it might pop into another gear. My year 2012 is not in the recall that effects 2015-2018 models but it's the exact same issue.

TAKATA RECALL I PURCHASED MY 2012 FORD EDGE SEL APRIL 22, 2019. TODAY, MAY 31ST 2019 ON MY WAY HORNE FROM WORK THE VEHICLE LOST STEERING AND POWER. I HAD JUST PASSED A SEMI-TRUCK ON A SMALL FARM TOWN BLACK TOP ROAD AND CAME UP ON A STOP SIGN. IN THE PROCESS OF TURNING TO THE LEFT FROM THE STOP THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT OUT OF THE ROAD. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE VEHICLE I HAD TO FIND AN ALTERNATE WAY HOME. *WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE THE ENGINE DID RUN HOWEVER IT SOUNDED AS IT WAS "STARVED" OR "MIS-FIRING", THERE WAS HEAVY WHITE SMOKE DISPERSING FROM THE EXHAUST AND WHEN I WOULD ATTEMPT TO PUT IT IN DRIVE IT WOULD DIE. THE OIL LEVEL IS FINE, THE ANTIFREEZE IS FINE, IT IS NOT OVERHEATING AND THERE WERE NO SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS OF AN ISSUE. THIS WAS COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED AND OCCURRED WITH NO WARNING. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY PARKED WHERE IT DIED; A HALF HOUR AWAY FROM MY HOME. I AM THANKFUL MY 15 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS NOT DRIVING WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND EVEN MORE THANKFUL THAT THIS SPORADIC ACTIVITY DID NOT RESULT IN A FATAL OR CRIPPLING CRASH WITH ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL. AS I RESEARCH THE CAUSES IT APPEARS THIS ISSUE IS NOT ISOLATED AND HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE 2008. I PRAY IT IS INVESTIGATED AND NOTICE IS SHARED BEFORE THE POTENTIALS BECOME A REALITY. PLEASE BE PROACTIVE VS REACTIVE AND ASSURE THIS ISSUE IS ADDRESSED FOR THE PEOPLE.

Loss of rearview image from backup camera. Intermittent blank, distorted, or inverted image when in reverse. Sometimes says "loss of signal". This reduces the driver’s view of the area behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a backover crash.
