2018 Ford Edge Other / unspecified Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the other system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Other / unspecified reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The contact's wife owns a 2018 Ford Edge. While the contact’s wife was pulling into the driveway, the contact heard an abnormal hissing sound coming from the rear passenger’s side tire. The contact used a set of pliers to remove a stone from the tire, causing the tire to deflate. The contact attempted to replace the tire and discovered that the lug nuts were swollen, preventing the lug nuts from being removed. The contact called his son and was able to use other tools to remove the lug nuts. The spare tire was placed on the vehicle, and the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who acknowledged the lug nut failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The lug nuts on the other wheels were also swollen. The dealer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.

2024- 2/1 issue with lug nuts. Purchased 4 new tires July 2023 at Walmart... The only time all 4 tires had been removed for new tires. Now 2/1 the lug nuts are swollen and no good. Walmart or Ford Problem?? Now it is my problem to replace. 1 year into the car the transmission was relaced, 2 years in the motor. 5 Star I do not think so.

The lug nuts are bulging and won't come off which as needed then the wheel can't as well. Just had new tires put on which the shop had to destroy one to get the wheel off. If a flat tire occurred I would not be able to take off a wheel and change it. I have heard this is a problem on the design for many Ford vehicles.

I'm [XXX] and I brought my Ford Edge to Lucas ford on Columbus Road in Burlington, NJ 08016 for Lube and a Tire Rotation. After an hour they said the Ford Edges wheel lugs were swollen and could not be removed under normal conditions. They wanted $300.00 to replace nuts, and with the same ones from FORD. I thought this was a scam and did not have the car dealer replace them. I researched the problem and found it was true and that FORD could care less about it. I tried to remove one nut at home and spent two hours on it and could not remove it. FORD should replace all there defective parts now. As i said I'm [XXX] and if i have a tire blow out on the road, how do remove iot and install the spare? How about a recall on the wheel lug nuts!!!
