2016 Ford F-450

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-450. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced a loss of automotive power. An unknown engine-related message was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that there were metal shavings inside the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.

On several occasions, a vehicle cut off our truck so driver had to slam on brakes. Brakes locked up and would not release and truck would not move. Driver had to turn off the truck, set and release the parking brake before they would release and allow him to move the truck. Put truck in brake shop (SW Brake and Alignment) and they replaced brakes lines, master cylinder, hydraboost and sensor and the problem is still not fixed and the shop mechanics are still able to reproduce this locking up and not releasing issue after having our truck for more than a month. They are putting our old parts back on and releasing the truck back to us because they cannot figure out how to fix this issue. This is a safety issue for driver and others on the roadway if truck is stuck and not able to be moved out of the roadway to safety while the truck is immobile.

WHILE DRIVING ON 3 OCCASIONS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED ON ITS OWN UNEXPECTEDLY TO FIRST GEAR CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL DUE TO THE REAR WHEELS LOCKING UP. ON TWO OF THE OCCASIONS IT DISABLED THE VEHICLE AND REQUIRED REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP NOW GOING ON 3 MONTHS. *DT WHEN WE HEARD ABOUT HIM THE RECALL OF 1.5 MILLION TRUCKS WE FELT LIKE WE HAD A SOLUTION BUT FORD STATES THAT MY TRUCK IS NOT AFFECTED. MY COMPLAINT IN 06/2017 IS AN EXACT DESCRIPTION OF THE RECALL. I BELIEVE MY TRUCK IS AFFECTED. I HAVE NEARLY BEEN IN THREE ACCIDENTS STARTING WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN WARRANTY. PICKUP - 6.7L DIESEL ENGINE - RUNS ROUGH DURING EXHAUST REGENERATION PROCESS - BUILT ON OR BEFORE 2/23/2016 ISSUE Some 2015-2016 F-Super Duty 250-450 Pickup vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine and built on or before 2/23/2016 may exhibit a runs rough/misfire condition only during the exhaust regeneration process. This condition typically occurs on light throttle tip in between 64-113 Km/h (40-70 MPH) and will not set diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). The concern may be intermittent and a knocking noise may be present during the concern. SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) release 99.03 or higher. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraftservice.com 2. Did the customer indicate the message center displayed a Cleaning Exhaust Filter message prior to the concern? a. Yes - proceed to Step 3. b. No - proceed to Step 6. 3. Remove the left cylinder head. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-01. 4. Replace all eight (8) exhaust valves and valve seals. Refer to WSM, Section 303-01. (Figure 1)
