What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2005 Ford Freestyle, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

From owner reports, verbatim
Driving my 2005 Ford Freestyle today when I suddenly heard a loud explosion or crash sound overhead. At first I thought something had fallen from the sky and crashed into the top of our vehicle. I immediately slowed down and pulled the car off the side of the road. My husband was a passenger in the vehicle. He carefully got out of the vehicle and looked on top of and around the vehicle. That is when we discovered that the glass in the sunroof had literally exploded and blown out of the vehicle. The track was still in place and operating normally. The glass was completely blown out of the vehicle. Because the Ford Freestyle was only in production for 3 years (I believe), there probably are not many still in use. Thus, there are probably not many Ford Freestyle owners having or reporting this problem. Besides being scared, the potential for being hit by the exploding glass and suffering substantial injuries to our heads, eyes, face, shoulders, bodies, could have been tremendous, if not deadly. I reported the incident to Ford Motor Company. The vehicle has not been inspected yet by manufacturer, police, insurance, or others. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the sunroof glass failure.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND LOST POWER THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. THE REAR WIPER DOESN'T WORK AND THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM IS MALFUNCTIONING

THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE SHOULDER AND BACK AND MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS PROVIDED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WAS NO FIRE DUE TO THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTACT CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER WEBB FORD 9809 INDIANAPOLIS BLVD, HIGHLAND, IN 46322 (219) 924-3400. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DEEMED THE VEHICLE A TOTAL LOSS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO PROVIDED CASE NUMBER CAS-21715175 AND REFERRED TO THE LOCAL DEALER HOWEVER, NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.

Reports naming seat belts, buckles, retractors and pretensioners.

TRANSMISSION IS GOING OUT AND CAN'T AFFORD TO REPAIR BECAUSE OF RIDICULOUS COST. SEAT BELT IN MIDDLE SEAT IS STUCK AND MY CHILDREN CAN'T SIT IN THAT SEAT BECAUSE IT IS STUCK. VERY UNHAPPY WITH THIS FORD BUY. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN MY FAMILY VEHICLE! *TR
THE MIDDLE BENCH SEATS CENTER SEAT BELT RETRACTED IN WHILE THE SEAT WAS FOLDED DOWN, LOCKED, AND WON'T ALLOW THE SEAT TO COME BACK UP. THE ONLY WAY I WAS ABLE TO GET THE SEAT BACK IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION WAS TO UNBOLTED THE SEATBELT, LET THE LOSE END RETRACT INTO THE MECHANISM UNTIL IT RELEASED ALLOWING THE END TO BE BOLTED BACK AGAIN. I'M ON THE THIRD TIME OF UNBOLTED AND BOLTING A LOUSILY (IN MY OPINION) DESIGNED SEATBELT SYSTEM. *TR

I HAVE A FORD FREESTYLE 2005 THAT HAS AN A/C ISSUE. AS I HAVE DONE SOME ONLINE RESEARCH THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS. IT DOESN'T STAY COOL WHEN THE CAR IDLES. NEITHER DOES IT COOL THE CAR DOWN IN THE 90-100 DEGREE WEATHER. TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAID IT WOULD COST $1100 TO REPLACE THE COMPRESSOR. HE SAID THE PROBLEM IS THAT YOU HAVE TO GET THE COMPRESSOR FROM FORD AND THEY HAVE A HUGE BACK LOG OF ORDERS AND THEY WEREN'T SURE WHEN HE COULD GET IT. I THINK THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. ONLINE THERE ARE MANY, MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS EXACTLY LIKE MINE. FORD SHOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND OFFER SOME KIND OF REIMBURSEMENT TO THOSE OF US WHO OWN THIS VEHICLE. *KB
