Owner-reported complaints naming the brake system, filed with NHTSA
Data refreshed
Brakes reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

While driving home from work. I heard a pop and seen smoke coming from my tire. I pulled over and seen fire behind the wheel. After looking it over the emergency parking brake motor that attaches to the brake caliper was blown apart. The pistons in the caliper pushed so hard against the brake pad that it was bent to a 90 degree angle. Had to replace pads, rotors, and calipers in both sides.

I received a recall notice for my 2013 Ford Fusion. The Recall was 23S12- Multi Vehicle Front Brake Jounce Hose Leaks. I contacted Ford about the repairs for this recall and was told that the repairs would take 1.3 hours because the brake lines needed to be bled as part of the repair. When I contacted my local Ford dealership about getting the repairs, I was told I would have to leave my vehicle for at least 2 days if I wanted the repairs done. No loaner vehicle has been offered. I cannot be without my car for 2 days. How am I to get the repair work done?

Safety Recall 23S12/NHTSA Recall 23V162 - Brake Fluid Leak Took my car in for recall fix. Was told they could not perform the fix for the following reasons: 1) First said it was because I had aftermarket winter tires and rims on it. Told them that once I change to my all-season tires and original rims in 2 weeks can I bring it back, they told me no. 2) Then said it was because the car has 133k miles on it, so said it was too old to work on, and up to dealer discretion (Stoneham Ford, Stoneham, MA) 3) Then said the car has rust underneath so can't work on it. It was just a myriad of excuses as to why they couldn't perform. They said to try another dealer.

I am receiving warning lights regarding my electronic parking brakes. I took my car to a Ford dealership in Ankeny for a recall on my front brake lines to be fixed and mentioned this to the maintenance dept. They couldn't do anything without putting my car on a scanner (or whatever they do) because, being a widow I did not have the $100 they charge. Thus I am still driving my car with the warning lights on. I hope it is safe for me to drive it.

I’ve received a letter in March regarding this safety recalls and I not been contacted by the manufacturer for any remedy. I have not had this vehicle for a full six months. Now the break fluids leaks, there’s an issue with a gasket, and I cannot longer drive vehicle due to the smell of something burning. The recall states it’s an increasing risk of a crash. I have to search for transportation to and from work because I refuse to cause harm to myself or others. Safety Risk IF THE BRAKE FLUID LEAKS, YOUR VEHICLE MAY EXPERIENCE AN INCREASE IN BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL TOGETHER WITH A REDUCTION IN THE RATE OF DECELERATION OVER TIME, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. Ford should provide another vehicle as a loaner until this issue has been resolved.
