Owner-reported complaints naming the visibility system, filed with NHTSA
Data refreshed
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors. Every record below is an owner-reported complaint about the 2016 Ford Fusion submitted to NHTSA — not a confirmed defect, not a recall and not a manufacturer bulletin. 24 reports on file name it.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

The rearview is not working consistently and caused me to back into a pole.
I own a 2016 Ford Fusion affected by Safety Recall 25SA9 (NHTSA Recall 25V695) regarding the rearview camera. I took my vehicle to an authorized Ford dealership on June 25, 2026, to have the recall repaired. The dealership confirmed that the repair procedure is currently available only for Mustang vehicles and that no repair is available for my Fusion. The dealership documented this on the repair order. I also contacted Ford Customer Relations, and Ford confirmed there is currently no confirmed ETA for the recall remedy. I am fully willing to complete the recall immediately, but I cannot do so because the manufacturer has not made the repair available for this vehicle. I am submitting this complaint because the manufacturer has been unable to provide a timely remedy for this safety recall despite my attempt to have the repair completed. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this situation.
My backup camera does not work any longer. I have had several near-misses of collisions with both cars and people. Please make the recall fix available!! On the date of incident field, I just put the last time it happened. There have been multiple dates.
Recall letter was sent October 2025. It is now mid-May 2026 and Ford does not have parts available for this recall. That is not reasonable. The safety recall is nhtsa 25v695 for the rearview camera.
The rear view camera on my 2016 Ford Fusion activates randomly while driving and displays blank or distorted images when the vehicle is in reverse. This is a known defect covered under Ford Recall 25SA9 / NHTSA 25v695, issued October 2025. I have contacted Koons Ford in Falls Church, VA multiple times requesting repair. The dealer stated the replacement part is only available for Mustangs. As of May 2026, Ford's own recall page confirms parts are still not available — over seven months after the recall was issued. I am driving daily with a malfunctioning safety system and no repair timeline. The camera issue creates a crash risk every time I reverse the vehicle.
My vehicle has multiple active safety recalls that remain unrepaired. I have already contacted the dealership and attempted to have these issues addressed, but I have experienced delays and a lack of response. The front brake hose recall presents a serious safety risk, as it could rupture and cause a brake fluid leak, leading to reduced braking ability and increased stopping distance. Additionally, the rear view camera recall affects visibility when reversing, as the camera may display a blank or distorted image.I have already filed a complaint with NHTSA regarding these unresolved recalls. One of the recalls currently does not have a remedy available, and the other has not been completed despite my efforts to schedule repairs. These unresolved safety issues put me and others at risk, and I am concerned about the lack of timely action to correct them.
Back-up camera shuts off during operation. Works intermittently and never for a full operation. This is a 2016 vehicle. Ford has be unable to remedy the situation. Camera has been replaced as well as software updates installed. No fix in sight.
There is an issue with the reverse view camera screen is distorted and blurry. View is difficult especially when reversing.
The rear backup camera system on my 2016 Ford Fusion S has failed and no longer displays an image when the vehicle is placed in reverse. The screen remains completely black and does not activate. The backup camera previously worked normally before this failure. The issue appears to be related to the backup camera or associated electrical/display system, and the component should be available for inspection upon request. This malfunction creates a safety risk because the backup camera is necessary to see obstacles, pedestrians, and other vehicles behind the car. Without a functioning backup camera, rear visibility is significantly reduced, increasing the risk of a collision, especially in parking lots and residential areas. The problem occurs every time the vehicle is placed in reverse. The issue has not yet been confirmed by a dealer or independent repair facility. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. There were no warning lights or messages prior to the failure. The screen began failing and now remains completely black when in reverse. The exact date the issue began is UNKNOWN.
My back up camera is blue all time , I saw so many people have the same issue, ford need to publish a recall on 2016 ford fusion as well, they did a recall on other vehicles recently, but not on this 2016 ford fusion
Windshield wiper motor works and there’s windshield wiper fluid and wind water tank but when you pull the windshield wiper flu lever to disperse clean your windshield nothing comes out taking it to mechanic. He can’t find anything wrong with it fluid go somewhere when you pull the lever except for on the windshield. Don’t know where it goes because you can empty the fluid tank out and not see anything on the ground or on the car
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the sunroof detached from the vehicle and flew off. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repair by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000. The VIN was not available.
The backup camera has been cutting out recently. Just yesterday, the backup camera is displaying an image that is reversed (object on the sidewalk side (right side) of the vehicle, show up on the street side (left side) of the screen). I can no longer use the backup camera, as it is designed. The dealer has a one-month backlog on appointments, but I am taking it to a non-dealership mechanic on Monday. You will notice in the picture attached, the black car shows up on the left side of the screen, and it's actually on the right side of the car.
My back-up camera only half works. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t. My car also doesn’t alert me to when I’m getting too close to another vehicle when I backing into a parking spot. Also, the Bluetooth in my car has not worked or even connect to my phone since I first bought that car, and for this car to not even be 10 years old yet, this is ridiculous. Everyone I know has been having very similar issues. Y’all need to get it together. Is there anyway this issue can be looked into as well please? It’s be really nice to get to use all of my features I pay for. Love the car, hate this electrical bs. 🙄
“Temporarily Lost communication with the Climate System” when this appears on the dash, AC won’t turn on, windows won’t roll up or down, defrost doesn’t work, nothing on the dash works except hazard lights, doors won’t lock, can’t adjust mirrors. Happens very sporadically, coincidentally when it starts to get hot (80° and above)
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the defroster, HVAC system, and front and rear passenger's side windows and doors were inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer replaced the main control; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 99,800.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE WINDSHIELD WASHER AND WIPER SWITCH WAS ACTIVATED HOWEVER, THE WINDSHIELD WASHER AND WIPERS WERE INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AN UNKNOWN DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 54,000.
WHEN I WENT OUT TO MY PARKED CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY THIS MORNING, ALL OF MY WINDOWS WERE DOWN. AT FIRST, I HAD THOUGHT THAT SOMEONE HAD BROKEN INTO MY CAR, AND I LOOKED FOR BROKEN GLASS, SIGNS OF FORCED ENTRY, AND MY BELONGINGS TO BE STREWN ALL OVER MY CAR. HOWEVER, THERE WAS NONE OF THE ABOVE. MY CAR WAS JUST AS IT HAD BEEN WHEN I LEFT IT AROUND 7:00 PM THE NIGHT BEFORE, AND NOTHING HAD EVEN BEEN MISPLACED FROM WHERE I HAD LEFT IT. I WAS COMPLETELY FLUMMOXED, UNTIL I DO A GOOGLE SEARCH FOR 2016 FORD FUSION ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, AND SAW THAT THERE WERE A NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT REPORTED VARIOUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH MY PARTICULAR MODEL THAT RESULTED IN THEIR CAR'S WINDOWS ROLLING DOWN WITHOUT CAUSE. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME, THANKFULLY, BUT I CAN'T RISK THIS HAPPENING AGAIN, ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE'S INCLEMENT WEATHER.
DRIVER SEAT (BASE) MOVES WHILE DRIVING AND (DRIVER SIDE) WIPER BLADES HESITATES DURING MEDIUM AND FAST SETTING.
THE WIPERS WILL STOP INDIVIDUALLY AND RANDOMLY WHEN IN USE. IT SEEMS TO BE MORE OF AN ISSUE DURING LIGHT RAIN BUT HAS HAPPENED DURING HEAVY RAIN ON OCCASION AS WELL. I HAVE BEEN TO MY DEALER FOR THIS AND THEY SAID I NEEDED NEW WIPER BLADES. THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTEE AT THAT TIME. IT HAS REOCCURRED AND I WILL VISIT MY DEALER AGAIN. I HAVE SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ON FUSION AND OTHER FORD VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM. THE DATE I USED IS THE DATE OF LAST OCCURRENCE NOT THE DATE OF FIRST OCCURRENCE. SINCE THIS IS MY DAUGHTERS CAR SHE THOUGHT IT WAS OKAY FOR THE WIPERS TO HANG ONCE IN A WHILE. I DO NOT ACCEPT THIS AS A SAFE FEATURE!
THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ARE WAY TO SLOW WHEN DRIVING IN A MINIMAL AMOUNT OF RAIN. I HAVE TRIED TURNING THEM INTO THE HIGHEST FREQUENCY. IT IS SO BAD THAT I HAVE TO PULL OFF THE RODE AND STOP TO WAIT FOR THE RAIN TO STOP. THIS COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY NOT ONLY MYSELF BUT TO OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. IT IS VERY HAZARDOUS AND I REALLY WISH THIS ISSUE CAN BE FIXED. IT FEELS VERY HAZARDOUS
WINDSHIELD WASHER SQUIRTERS ARE AIMED TOO LOW. AT SPEED, ESPECIALLY HIGHWAY SPEED, THE FLUID IS BLOCKED BY THE WIPER BLADES. THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD GETS VERY LITTLE, IF ANY, FLUID. DANGEROUS ON THE HIGHWAY!! I HAVE SPOKEN WITH FORD AND MY DEALER. FORD CLAIMS THE SQUIRTERS THEMSELVES ARE NOT ADJUSTABLE AND THAT THEY OPERATE AS DESIGNED. HAVING TRIED OTHER FUSIONS LIKE MINE, THEY ARE ALL OPERATING THIS WAY. IT IS DANGEROUS. MY PHOTOS ARE OF THE CAR STATIONARY, IN MY GARAGE. THE PHOTO WITH THE RED LINE SHOWS THE POINT AT WHICH THE SQUIRTERS HIT. THE OVERSPRAY ABOVE THEM DOES NOT HAPPEN AT SPEED!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD FUSION. WHEN THE CONTACT ACTIVATED THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW, HIS ARM BECAME CAUGHT UP AND DIFFICULT TO REMOVE FROM THE WINDOW. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FEATURE WAS A SAFETY HAZARD FOR CHILDREN. WHEN THE WINDOW CONTROL WAS ACTIVATED AND RELEASED, THE WINDOW CONTINUED TO RISE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,500.
2016 FORD FUSION. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE WINDSHIELD AND DASHBOARD ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN THE SUN SHINED THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD ONTO THE DASHBOARD, IT REFLECTED A 'V" ABOVE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ON THE DASHBOARD. THE EDGES OF THE "V" REFLECTED ONTO THE INSIDE OF THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AND INTERFERED WITH THE DRIVER'S VISION. THE CENTER CUT OUT IN THE CENTER OF THE DASHBOARD ALSO REFLECTED ONTO THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD, BUT SINCE IT WAS CENTERED IT DID NOT INTERFERE WITH THE DRIVER'S VISION. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE REFLECTION ON THE DRIVER'S WINDSHIELD WAS A DESIGN DEFECT. IF THE "V" WAS NOT CUT INTO THE DASHBOARD ABOVE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, THERE WOULD BE NO REFLECTION. IF THE DASHBOARD WAS ANTI-GLARE THE PROBLEM WOULD PROBABLY BE SOLVED. *JB
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
