TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 HARLEY DAVIDSON ROAD KING MOTORCYCLE WITH 16 INCH METZLER TIRES, SIZE: 24X7.5R16. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 80 MPH, LARGE PIECES OF THE TIRE STARTED TO BREAK OFF UNTIL THE CHORD WAS VISIBLE FROM INSIDE THE TIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND REQUESTED THE TIRE BE SENT TO THEM FOR INVESTIGATION. THE DOT NUMBER WAS NOT KNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE WAS 36,000 AND THE TIRE MILEAGE WAS 4,000.

ON AUGUST 7TH 2010 AT 3:30PM. WE WERE HEADING EAST ON INTERSTATE 90 AT A RATE OF 70MPH.. 10 MILES FROM MITCHELL, S.D. THE REAR TIRE BLEW. THE BIKE BEGAN TO FISHTAIL, WE ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN BUT WITH THE FISHTAIL WAS GETTING WILDER. WE HAD GO IN THE DITCH TO AVOID A HEAVILY CONCRETED OVERPASS WITH GUIDE WIRE BEFORE AND AFTER. MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO BAIL OUT IN SOME TALL GRASS AND WALK AWAY WITH MINIMAL INJURY. WHILE I SUSTAINED SEVERAL BROKEN BONES ALONG MY SPINES AND TWO BROKEN RIBS. AND OF COURSE I WILL BE LEFT WITH HUGE MEDICAL BILLS. THE TIRE IN QUESTION WAS IN GOOD SHAPE. PROPER INFLATION AND WITH LESS THAN 3000 MILES BEFORE OUR TRIP STARTED. AS OF YET, WE HAVE SETTLED FOR THE BIKE. I AM TOLD THAT STATE FARM IS IN POSSESSION OF THE BIKE AND THE TIRE. *TR

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MOTORCYCLE CHASSIS AND FRAME RUSTED AND FRACTURED IN SEVERAL PLACES WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS NOT EXPOSED TO ANY HARSH WEATHER ELEMENTS OR ROAD SALTS. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED A NEW FRAME WAS NEEDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
