What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2014 INFINITI Q50, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
Manually have to unlock the shifter to put into gear with a key and the steering wheel is at 90 degrees all the way to the right and won't move back to standard positioning while driving.
The contact owns a 2014 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel felt loose and made an abnormal knocking sound while making a turn. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to manually move the steering column from underneath the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who retrieved DTC: C1130 and C1138. The mechanic informed the contact that the failure could be related to the steering column, but a more detailed inspection of the steering system was needed to confirm the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 73,850.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
MY CAR WAS DRIVING ALONG AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE STEERING WHEEL GOT EXTREMLY TIGHT AND THE CAR WAS HARD TO STEER, I HAD TO PULL OVER TURN THE CAR OFF AND THE LIGHT WAS STILL ON, I WAS LIKE 2 MILES AWAY FROM MY HOUSE, TALKING TO A NEIGHBOR THAT HAS SAME CAR DIFFERENT YEAR, STATED TO CHECK RECALL HIS CALL DID THE SAMETHING YEARS AGO WHEN WE HAD A COLD (LOW TEMPERATURE) WINTER AND IT WAS REPLACED BY INFINITI DEALER. I NEVER HAD ANY ISSUE WITH THIS CAR UNTIL NOW.IT'S BEEN REALLY COLD. ALSO THIS CAR HAS ISSUES WHEN IT RAINS, IT DOESN'T WANT TO START, I HAVE CHECK OUT MANY VIDEOS STATING THE SUNROOF LEAKS OR TUBES FOR SUNROOF GETS CLOGGED AND LEAKS INTO THE BCM OR ECM SYSTEM CAUSES DAMAGE AND DASH LIGHTS. IM NOT A MECHANIC BUT I KNOW THAT THIS IS SOMETHING INFINITI/NISSIAN SHOULD HIGHLY LOOK INTO. JUST A GIRL,BUT I KNOW MULTIPLE PEOPLE SHOULDN'T BE POSTING THE SAME CONCERNS ON THEIR CARS AND IT'S NOT BEING LOOKED INTO

Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
On April 2nd I took my vehicle into the dealer for recall servicing. After leaving the dealer I had my vehicle inspected the next day by a third party repair shop and my brake caliper was missing the main bolt that connects to the brake pad. Brake pads were also less than 5% wear remaining. Myself and others were put in serious danger if my brakes had failed due to this serious oversight and disregard. My suspension also was unsafe in the rear but the dealer carried out a multi point inspection stating everything passed.

Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
Driveshaft broke while driving down the road!!
I received a check engine light will driving which is now indicated as code P0720 and P0500. The car refused to shift past 3rd gear and began to sputter and would not allow me to go past 25mph disrupting the flow of traffic.
Airbags
Reports naming the air-bag system — deployment behaviour, inflators, sensors and warning lights.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2014 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the passenger’s side air bag off warning light remained illuminated constantly. The contact stated that the warning light was also present while a passenger was seated in the seat. The contact used a diagnostic scanner to identify an abnormal voltage to the passenger’s side air bag sensor. The manufacturer was contacted but no assistance was provided. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V244000 (AIR BAGS). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 36,000.
Traction Control did not function when needed. I had my breaks and rotors replaced two days prior to the accident, which may have had an impact on the performance of the vehicle. Insurance representatives did look over the vehicle, as it is now in their possession. However, I do not feel as though they took the time to look into my concerns. There was no warnings on the Dash.
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.

Tires & wheels
Reports naming tires, wheels, hubs, or the tire-pressure monitoring system.
From owner reports, verbatim
THIS AFTERNOON I HAD ANOTHER BLOWOUT OF A RUN-FLAT TIRE. THIS IS THE 7TH BLOWOUT IN UNDER 17 MONTHS. OVER MY DRIVING CAREER I HAVE DRIVEN OVER A MILLION MILES, BY MY CALCULATIONS, AND HAVE NEVER HAD A BLOWOUT. I WAS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON THE LONG ISLAND EXPRESSWAY WHEN I HIT A SMALL POTHOLE. TIRES ARE BRIDGESTONE 245/40 RF 19 98W.
I PURCHASED A 2014 INFINITI Q50 NEW FROM THE DEALER. THE CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 6,500 MILES ON IT WHEN THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE SIDE WALL CRACKED. THE REPAIR SHOP NOTICED THAT THE LEFT FRONT TIRE HAD A BUBBLE AND ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. BOTH FRONT TIRES WERE REPLACED THE WEEK OF 5/17/15. ONE MONTH AFTER THE REPLACEMENT ON 6/24/15, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE SIDEWALL CRACKED AGAIN.
Other / unspecified
Reports whose component NHTSA recorded as unknown, or that do not map to one of the categories above.
From owner reports, verbatim
I WAS PULLING OFF FROM THE GROCERY STORE AND MY CAR STALLED LIKE IT DIDNT WANTTO GO. SO I STOPPED AND PUT IT BACK IN PARK AND THEN STARTED TO PROCEED AGAIN....THATS WHEN I GOT ALL THE FLASHING ERRORS FOR MY AWD AND THE CHASSIS SYSTEM. THE REAR RIGHT ABS SENSOR IS THE PROBLEM PER THE DEALER. MY AWD ERROR LIGHT AND CHASSIS SYSTEM ERROR LIGHT ARE ON ALONG WITH THE ABS LIGHT. I'VE READ UP ON ALOT OF PEOPLES COMMENTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH WITH THE MANUFACTURER AS THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN AFTER THE WARRANTY RUNS OUT. THIS IS MY SECOND INFINITI CAR, AND WAS HOPING NOT TO RUN INTO THESE EXPENSIVE SENSOR ISSUES ALL OVER AGAIN. MY NEXT CAR WILL NOT BE AN INFINITI.

Front and middle crossmember rusted out to the point they have no more structural effects issues discovered while fixing a know issue to these models : rusted out and leaking engine and transmission oils pans I had confirmation from the dealership and other independent repair shop that leaking oils pans are common for those models and can cause engine and transmission failure. For the crossmembers they are important structural components that directly affect suspension/direction and drivetrain secureness. If the plastic shrouds/cover are not taken off during inspection those issues will goes undetected until one of them reaches failure

Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
While driving and using the air conditioning system coming out of the vents, the drivers side windows fog up and cannot be cleared with a rag or paper towel. This causes the drivers side windows to become heavily congested causing it virtually impossible to see out of the window and look into the drivers side mirror causing a major blind spot. This is especially troubling in the warmer weather. I’ve avoided two accidents because of the the blind spots this creates not being able to see out of the drivers side window and trying to look into the drivers side mirror to see if the left lane is safe to merge into to.
MY SUNROOF SHATTERED. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT AND WHEN WE CAME BACK IT WAS COMPLETELY SHATTERED AND GLASS WAS EVERYWHERE. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF VANDALISM. IT JUST EXPLODED.

Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
A short in the hybrid system's fuse relay caused the air conditioning control unit and compressor to fail. This further shorted out the hybrid junction box causing the hybrid battery recharge and power management system to malfunction. Gas mileage was very adversely affected and the hybrid system would have eventually failed causing a potential safety issue where the vehicle could lose propulsion suddenly while driving.
I brought a lemon from premier auto kc out in Kansas city, Kansas! I was sold a lemon and have had major problems with the car since

THE SEATBELT ON THE DRIVER SIDE WILL TIGHTEN UP ACROSS NECK AND CHEST WHEN DRIVER ASSIST CONTROLS GO OFF AT WILL WHEN CAR IS COMING TO A STOP OR WHEN CAR IS BEING DRIVEN ON UNEVEN OR BUMPY ROADS. THE SEATBELT CHOKES ME AS THOUGH I AM IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE INJURY ON MY CHEST. IN JULY, AFTER THE SEATBELT DID THIS, I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY NECK. IT WAS VERY PAINFUL, I HAD TWO PAIN INJECTIONS DONE AND NEITHER WORKED. I HAVE LUPUS WHICH AFFECTS MY JOINTS AND WHEN I WAS SENT TO HAVE A SECOND OPINION, THE FIRST THING THE DOCTOR ASKED WAS, HAD I BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. I MENTIONED THE SEATBELT AND HE SAID IT IS A POSSIBILITY THAT IT INFLAMED THE AREA. I HAD TO HAVE SURGERY ON OCTOBER 14, 2014. THE CAR DISPLAY SYSTEM FREEZES. I HAVE TAKEN THIS CAR BACK TO THE DEALER APPROXIMATELY 5 TIMES WITH THE MOST TIMES BEING WHEN IT HAD LESS THAN 1000 MILES. I HAVE CONTACTED INFINITI AND THEY HAVE SET UP 2 CASES, WITH NO EFFECTIVE RESULTS. I HAVE NEVER TURNED THE HEATER ON BECAUSE THE CAR GETS VERY HOT INSIDE AND I CAN FEEL THE HEAT ON MY FEET ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I AM ANEMIC (VERY COLD NATURED) IN THE SUMMER 82 DEGREES IS COMFORTABLE FOR ME. THIS CAR GETS VERY HOT. I CAN FEEL THE HEAT ON THE OUTSIDE AND SOMETIMES I SMELL SOMETHING BURNING WHEN I GET OUT. THE DISPLAY PANEL GIVES ERRONEOUS INFORMATION SUCH AS "OTHER MAINTENANCE?" AND "TIRE MAINTENANCE?" BUT WHEN CHECKED, EVERYTHING IS FINE. I HAVE TIRED TO WORK SOMETHING OUT BUT THEY ARE REFUSING TO ACCOMMODATE ME. WHETHER THEY REFUND MY DOWN PAYMENT AND ENOUGH WHERE I COULD TRADE OUT OF THIS CAR. THIS IS A LEASED VEHICLE (36) MONTHS. MONEY FOR PAIN AND SUFFERING. BECAUSE OF THIS SURGERY, I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RETURN TO WORK UNTIL DECEMBER AND I AM OFF WITHOUT PAY AND THIS WILL BE ADDITIONAL TIME WITHOUT PAY. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH BBB. PLEASE HELP ME. *TR
