2001 INFINITI QX4 Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2001 INFINITI QX4, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Reports by component

Ranked by how many owner reports name each component category

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

NOTHING HAVE NOT HAPPEN BUT IM NOTICED THOSE THINGS AND LOOKED UP RECALLS AND WOULD LIKE IT FIXED

NHTSA ID 10795271 · filed Nov 21, 2015

I WAS SMELLING GAS FUMES WHILE MY CAR WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE. I COULD SEE SOMETHING WET IN THE WHEEL WELL NEAR WHERE THE GAS TANK IS FILLED. HAD IT REPAIRED AT MY INFINITI DEALER, AND THEY REPLACED THE FUEL FILLER TUBE AND HOSES. IT REMINDED ME OF A RECALL NOTICE I RECEIVED IN 2008. IT WAS FOR THE FUEL FILLER TUBE AND HOSES. THEY WERE KNOW TO HAVE CORRODED DUE TO EXPOSURE TO ROAD SALTS. I HAD MY CAR INSPECTED IN 2008 AND THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS OK AT THE TIME. HOWEVER, BEING ABLE TO SMELL FUMES IN MY GARAGE, I KNOW THAT IT CORRODED THROUGH. THE DEALER AND INFINITI CONSUMER AFFAIRS STATE THAT BECAUSE I DON'T LIVE IN THEIR DERIVED LIST OF STATES THAT "REGULARLY USE SALT IN THE WINTER", THAT I AM NOT ELIGIBLE FOR FREE REPLACEMENT OF THE DEFECTIVE PART. I DO TRAVEL THROUGH A COUPLE OF THE AFFECTED STATES, BUT THE CAR IS NOT REGISTERED IN ONE. THE RECALL NOTICE STATES: "BECAUSE YOUR QX4 IS NOT REGISTERED IN ONE OF THE ABOVE STATES, IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE REPAIRED. HOWEVER, AT YOUR REQUEST, YOUR INFINITI DEALER WILL INSPECT, AND IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE FUEL FILLER TUBE ASSEMBLY WITH A NEW ONE WITH AN IMPROVED COATING PROCESS. THIS FREE SERVICE SHOULD TAKE ABOUT ONE AND A HALF HOURS..." THE NOTICE ALSO STATES TO "LEAVE THIS NOTICE IN YOUR QX4 FOR ANY FUTURE OWNERS." THIS TELLS ME THERE IS NO LENGTH OF TIME WHERE THE RECALL NOTICE BECOMES INACTIVE. IT WAS INSPECTED AT THE TIME AND NO REPAIRS WERE NECESSARY THEN. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM DID DEVELOP, AND NOW THEY DO NOT CONSIDER IT MEETING THE CRITERIA OF THE RECALL. I THINK IT MATCHES EXACTLY. ....UPDATED 10-27-15 *BF *CN

I HAVE FOUND THAT THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER, MAKING IT EASY TO HIT THE GAS INSTEAD OF THE BRAKE. THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND I WOULD BELIEVE THAT MIGHT BE THE CAUSE. I AM A SMALL PERSON WITH AVERAGE SIZE FEET AND HAVE HAD TWO SCARY INCIDENTS WITH THIS ISSUE. ALSO HAVE THE BROKEN RADIO PROBLEMS AFFECTING NEARLY EVERY OWNER WHICH SHOULD BE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. *TR

WE WERE ON VACATION IN ORANGE BEACH, ALABAMA. WHILE RETURNING FROM A SHOPPING TRIP TO FOLEY, ALABAMA, WE WERE PULLING IN TO THE PARKING SPACE IN FRONT OF OUR CONDO; MY WIFE, JUDY, WAS DRIVING OUR INFINITI QX4 2001 SUV. AS WE CAME TO A STOP THE CAR ENGINE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED "WIDE OPEN" AND MY WIFE PUT HER RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, EXCLAIMING "SOMETHING IS WRONG, I CAN'T STOP THIS CAR!" WE WENT OVER A CURB AND HIT A CONCRETE UTILITY POLE WHICH FINALLY STOPPED THE MOTION OF THE SUV. WE WERE NOT INJURED. WE HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE AUTO MANUFACTURER. THEY HAVE SENT A REP TO DO A COMPLETE "TEST" OF THE VEHICLE. TO DATE, WE HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING REGARDING THE RESULTS OF THEIR TESTING. *AK

PURCHASED (4) PIRELLI STR-A' S FROM THE TIRE RACK. THEY WERE INSTALLED BY MERCHANTS TIRE. THE FIRST LOCATION DIDN'T CHARGE ME BECAUSE THE COULDN'T GET THE TIRES TO BALANCE. THE SECOND LOCATION FOUND ONE TIRE WAVY AND EACH TIRE TOOK FROM 4.5 TO 8 OZ OF WEIGHT. I STILL HAD A VIBRATION IN THE SEAT OF THE VEHICLE. THE TIRE RACK WOULD NOT REPLACE MORE THAN ONE TIRE AT A TIME. REPLACEING ONE TIRE TOOK CARE OF THE VIBRATION. I RETURNED FOR THE FIRST ROTATION AND BALANCE, MERCHANTS SAID THAT THEY WOULD NOT PUT THE REAR TIRES ON THE FRONT BECAUSE EACH TIRE HAS 8 OZ'S OF WEIGHT. I TOLD THEM TO DO IT ANYWAY BECAUSE I HAD TO FOLLOW PIRELLI'S REQUIREMENTS OF ROTATION. ARE THESE TIRES HEADING FOR SELF DESTRUCTION WITH THIS MUCH WEIGHT??? I HAVE E-MAILED PIRELLI, BUT NO ONE REPLIED. *AK

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
