Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

The defect: Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Jayco Precept motorhomes. The heat shield beneath the storage compartment may not be long enough, which can allow the heat from the exhaust system to melt the storage compartment.
The risk: A storage compartment that melts can increase the risk of a fire.
The remedy: Dealers will extend the heat shield, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 27, 2022. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267.

Steering

Gears in steering gear box must be "sloppy". Constantly needing to correct to drive a straight line down the road. I have gone to "Safety Plus Steering Control" and had them install the proper Control arm, thinking this would solve the problem. It has not. The constant correcting of the steering going down the road is tiring. I believe the gearbox is the problem. This has been a problem ever since I bought it new in 2020, and is getting worse. Thank you

The contact owns a 2020 Jayco Precept RV constructed on a 2019 Ford F-53 chassis. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 MPH, the screws used to secure the brackets holding the 300-pound refrigerator failed, and the refrigerator became unsecured, causing the 25-foot long passenger’s side slider to detach. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The contact stated that the failure had previously occurred on multiple occasions and the passenger’s side slide brake and Hydraulic pump were replaced. Additionally, the overhead passenger’s side bed had detached from the wall nearly causing injuries to his wife. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 2,000.
