Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

The defect: Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Precept motorhomes built on Ford F53 chassis. The hydraulic lines may have been incorrectly routed too close to the exhaust without a heat shield.

The remedy: Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and correct the hydraulic line routing as necessary and install a heat shield, free of charge. The recall began November 14, 2019. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-517-9137. Jayco's number for this recall is 9903440.

THIS COMPLAINT IS IN REFERENCE TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER. DURING HIGHWAY USE IN THE RAIN THE WINDSHIELD WIPER AND ARM MALFUNCTIONS AND SWINGS TOO FAR TO THE LEFT ACTUALLY LEAVING THE WINDSHIELD AND WRAPPING AROUND THE LEFT DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW. THE WIPER THEN SLAMS AGAINST THE LEFT SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD AS IT ACTUATES BACK TO THE RIGHT CAUSING SCRATCHES AND DAMAGE TO THE WINDSHIELD AND THE WIPER ARM TO BOUNCE ACROSS THE WINDOW AND NOT WIPE THE RAIN AWAY FROM THE WINDSHIELD. THIS REDUCES VISIBILITY TO ALMOST ZERO AND CREATES A VERY UNSAFE DRIVING EXPERIENCE. YOUR WEBSITE DOES NOT ALLOW VIDEO, BUT I DO HAVE A VIDEO DEMONSTRATING THIS. I HAVE TAKEN A SCREENSHOT OF THE VIDEO TO SHOW THE ARM EXTENDED COMPLETELY OFF THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AND CLEARLY VISIBLE ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE MOTORHOME. YOU WILL ALSO NOTE THE RAIN BEADING ON THE WINDSHIELD WHERE THE WIPER IS COMPLETELY MISSING THE WINDSHIELD DUE TO THIS MALFUNCTION. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CORRECTED DURING AN EARLIER RECALL FOR THE WIPER MOTOR, HOWEVER THE MALFUNCTION CONTINUES.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JAYCO PRECEPT. WHILE DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE FOUR SLIDE OUTS DETACHED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND MANEUVERED THE SLIDE OUTS BACK IN PLACE. THE DEALER (LINK FORD AND RV, 660 W HOKAH ST, MINONG, WI 54859, (715) 466-2222, 1-800-332-3410) WAS CONTACTED AND THEY CALLED THE MANUFACTURER TO DETERMINE THEIR GUIDELINES. THERE HAD BEEN SIX OTHER MODELS THAT WERE ALSO AFFECTED BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURER ONLY INSTALLED THREE OF THE SIX BOLTS TO SECURE THE SLIDE OUTS IN PLACE. THE MANUFACTURER SUGGESTED TRADING IN THE 36T MODEL FOR A 36B MODEL, WHICH THE CONTACT STATED WAS A DOWNGRADE AND NOT A PERMANENT REMEDY. THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT THE DEALER AND HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE OFFER WAS DECLINED FOR THE DOWNGRADE. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING ON A SOLUTION FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TT *DT MANUFACTURER PURCHASED BACK FROM CONSUMER.*JB
