At 111,948 miles, while operating the vehicle, the engine suffered a sudden, catastrophic mechanical failure accompanied by an immediate and total loss of engine oil pressure. This caused the engine to suddenly stall and lose all propulsion while in motion, creating an immediate and severe highway safety hazard to myself and surrounding traffic.The vehicle was towed to an authorized Jeep dealership under Repair Order #5823328. The manufacturer (Stellantis) and the dealership are currently refusing to authorize diagnostic teardown labor or a mechanical review of the internal safety recall componentry to investigate an acute internal fuel-pump shaft seal leak or residual micro-particle metallic debris from the prior campaign. An internal drive-shaft seal failure on this replacement pump architecture dumps raw diesel fuel directly into the engine's internal oil crankcase, causing severe oil dilution, an immediate collapse of structural oil pressure, and catastrophic engine seizure. The manufacturer is attempting to shift 100% of the financial burden ($25,000 engine replacement cost) onto the consumer, actively obstructing an essential safety failure investigation into a federally recalled component.

I own a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel that has experienced repeated high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) failures despite completion of the NHTSA HPFP safety recall. After the recall was performed, my vehicle developed the exact failure described in the recall. Metal contamination was found in the fuel system, requiring replacement of the HPFP and major fuel system components. Approximately 13,000 miles later, during routine fuel filter maintenance, I suspected the failure had returned. I asked the dealership to inspect the fuel filters for metal contamination, but they declined. I then removed and cut open the filters myself and documented visible metal shavings consistent with the recall failure. This is the second occurrence of metal contamination after the recall repair. I retained the filters, saved fuel samples, and documented everything with photos and video. I provided this evidence to the dealership and Stellantis. A STAR case was opened, but the Stellantis District Manager instructed the dealership not to perform any repairs because the vehicle has no check engine light and remains operable. The recall warns that HPFP deterioration can contaminate the fuel system and cause a sudden loss of engine power, increasing the risk of a crash. It also states this failure may occur without warning lights. My concern is that Stellantis is requiring complete pump failure before authorizing repairs, despite documented evidence that the recall failure condition has returned. I still possess the contaminated filters, fuel samples, photographs, video, and service records and will provide them upon request. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate whether the recall remedy adequately corrects this defect and whether Stellantis' refusal to repair a vehicle exhibiting the same safety-related failure condition is appropriate.

On 5/72026@app 3:14pm after picking up one grandchild, and at a stop light on the way to p/u the other, the Jeep without warning just disengaged when the gas pedal was depressed, but to no avail. While frozen, the dashboard may have displayed something that was not noted in the panic to get the car moving! The internal panel was still illuminated, however the car would not move forwards although still in "Drive" with nothing having been switched, shifted or toggled except engagement of the brake to stop at the traffic light. The Jeep had to be placed in "Park", the starter button pressed, then pressed again to completely restart the vehicle. This was a potentially huge safety issue with many cars around us honking & rushing to pick up their own children, yet fortunately no one ran into us with our precious little rider!

I recently purchased a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee and began experiencing serious issues almost immediately after taking possession of the vehicle. While driving this vehicle under normal conditions, the engine developed abnormal ticking/knocking noises, loss of power, and misfire symptoms that progressively worsened. The vehicle was frequently used to transport children. Due to the nature of the failure and unpredictability of progression, continued operation posed a serious safety risk. An authorized dealer later confirmed that the engine suffered a catastrophic internal valvetrain failure involving collapsed lifters/rocker arms and severely damaged camshafts. The dealer technician explicitly stated this failure mode is “typical” for this engine design and documented progressive internal damage affecting both cylinder banks, not an isolated component. This failure mode is not sudden; it develops gradually over tens of thousands of miles and can lead to sudden engine power loss, stalling, or seizure without warning. A loss of propulsion at highway speed, during lane changes, intersections, or while transporting children creates a clear risk of crash, injury, or worse. There was no evidence of driver abuse, lack of maintenance, lubrication failure, or misuse. The dealer confirmed oil condition and service history were appropriate. The defect appears to be internal, latent, and manufacturing-related, consistent with numerous consumer complaints, technical service bulletins, and ongoing litigation involving this engine family. Had the vehicle continued to be driven, the failure could have escalated to: •Sudden loss of engine power at speed •Inability to accelerate to avoid hazards •Engine seizure causing loss of steering assist •Increased crash risk with child passengers onboard The vehicle was removed from service due to safety concerns. This defect is repeatable, predictable, and well-documented, yet not subject to recall at this time. I am reporting this to support investigation into a systemic engine defect that presents a serious safety risk to drivers and passengers.

Three concerns: (1) the engine light is on. mechanics cannot determine why. (2) the car has trouble starting. When I park indoors, the car doesn't start. The engine turns over several times and the RPM goes all the way up, but the car will not start until the 3rd or 4th try. mechanics cannot determine why. (3) when I pump gas, the fuel pump automatically shuts off even though the gas tank is not full. So I have to hold the pump in place and use the gas gauge to determine when the tank is full. mechanics have seen this problem in other jeeps but haven't given me a reason why.

I have been experiencing slow crank issues for months now. The vehicle will have a slow crank then start. If it does not start on the first try, it will start on the second attempt. This concerns me as I've read many complaints regarding high pressure fuel pump issues on Jeep Grand Cherokees. I am concerned about my safety especially being stranded at night time. I was told I need to change the fuel pump. I called the dealership and was also told that many Jeep Grand Cherokees have been experiencing the same issue which was fixed by replacing the fuel pump. If many vehicles are experiencing the same problem, why is this not considered a recall?

I bought a 2018 jeep grand Cherokee limited on July 1,2024. A week after owning the vehicle the jeep kept shutting off while driving on the interstate and the dash said “ put in P and push to start” none of the hazard lights came on. It just automatically shut off in the middle of traffic multiple times and when put into park and tried to restart it would take several attempts. This is unsafe and I’m lucky I did not get into an accident since the vehicle is just turning off while I’m driving on a busy highway not to mention almost getting into an accident since I’m given no warning. I dropped off my jeep at the dealership and they have had it for two weeks stating they can not find any issues with the vehicle. This is frustrating and scary and do not even feel comfortable driving a the jeep that I owned for one week. I have read several complaints in the same issue and k won’t seems to be able to find what is causing this issue.

At around 66,861 miles my car started to do a weird shaking, slowing down on highway, rattling, and missing. I brought to dealer and they stated I needed an EGR valve replacement. This was done yet the code did not reset and the problem happened again. Now, I’m told well my vehicle needs an egr cooler!??? What is this? And why was this not communicated to me before I had the work done. Also, why would this malfunction so fast. This was July 18, 2022. There are no recalls but there should be with this happening so soon? I have children and this is scary on the highway.

The alternator is pulling from the battery draining it and at 9.5 volts the car will go into safety mode where it doesn’t turn off but it won’t drive neither which actually happened to me on Saturday in the middle of the street luckily no car hit mines and the police helped me move it out the road. I complained to CArMax Kearny mesa the previous Friday and instead of them putting me in a loaner car and towing the vehicle they scheduled me for an appointment Monday (today) at 9:30am and never held up their end and I’ve been carless ever since and they had my car for 6 months fixing this same problem I’m having today .

Hello, There is a few things going on with this vehicle, this is a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 27k miles. Uploading recalls on this vehicle. 1. It has a fuel leak, this is a vehicle that does not have a gas cap, it has been fully diagnosed by the dealer, they want to charge $900.00 to repair plus a $250.00 diagnostic fee. 2. Car would not move, stopped abruptly, had to turn car on and off while in traffic in order to get car going, almost causing an accident. 3. Car will tell you its about to hit another car when it's not and will turn on and off while driving, almost causing an accident. Dealer does not want to take a look at the car unless you pay them $250.00, want to keep the car for a week and does not want to provide a car rental while car is under their diagnostic phase. When refueling the vehicle, the fuel pump handle must be inverted in order to deliver gas. Without such upside down delivery. the pump shuts off.. The Inverted handle delivery creates a health and safety issue as gas can easily overflow the tank fuel filler tube. My wife just spent three days in the hospital after being bathed in gas, and now has heart and vision issues as a result. Jeep has a history of gas filler tube issues. Numerous Internet blogs report the same issue.
